-=Logholm’s lost city, Ronnie POV=-

“...”

“...”

“...”

“Lizz.”

“Yeah.”

“It’s not moving.”

“Nope.”

“Why?”

“Don’t know.”

I had taken a stance with legs far apart, one paw ahead of me and the other next to my waist while the armored demon in front of me faced me with a great sword in hand, staring at me without moving an inch.

Master had many times told me the theory of how the first to attack will be the one to lose, and although I didn’t agree with everything she said I did agree with most of it.

So I followed the armored demon’s example and just stood still while continuing to observe it

“!”

Suddenly the tip of the armored demon’s sword started shaking! It swayed from one side to the other repeatedly until-

-the demon grabbed the hilt of the sword with his other hand and stabilised it again.

“If you can’t actually hold the sword in one hand then don’t bother!” I shout reflexively at the armored demon.

In response to this the demon let go of the sword with one hand again and used said hand to flip me off before grabbing the sword yet again and charging at me before I could recover from the shock of having a giant menacing demon get embarrassed.

*slash*

“Hey-”

*slash*

“No-”

*slash*

“Wait-”

*slash*

“Fuck off!” I scream, my patience finally having run dry as I hit the armored demon in the chest with all I have causing it to stagger backwards.

I had been so caught off guard when he suddenly broke the serious atmosphere and hadn’t been able to recover, but now that I’d created some distance between us I took a proper-

*thunk*

“Ow! You fucking cunt!”

That bastard took off one of his shoulder guards from his armor and threw it at me!

I flinched momentarily due to my surprise, the armored demon took this chance to charge at me with his sword raised above his head, I was barely able to recover my stance as the demon jumped and-

*thunk*

-the demon jumped, grabbed the shoulder guard which was currently in midair after having bounced off of me and threw it again

“Oh for fucks sake!”

The shoulder guard bounced off of me again and back to the demon, it’s like he only has that sword for show.

“Keep going like that!” Shouts Lizz from behind me.

“What!? What the hell did I do that was actually good!?” I respond, however before I could hear Lizz’s reply the armored demon finally decided to slash at me with his sword when I had my back turned.

“I said fuck off cunt!”

I dodged one of the armored demons downward slashes and closed the distance between us, then, before the armored demon could pull back his arm, I struck one of the demon’s hands.

The shock caused his grip to loosen so I grabbed the hilt of the word with my other paw and started trying to wrench it out of the armored demons hand while continuing to hit him with the my other paw.

“Eep!”

*thud*

*clank*

When I started pulling the sword out of the armored demons grip he simply let go of the sword and since I was pulling the sword with everything I had I fell backwards onto the floor.

“What the hell is wrong with you!?” I scream at the demon, however he just seemed pleased by my irritation as he leaps towards me.

“So that’s how you want to play huh.”

I stand back up and ready myself, this time I would be prepared for that damn diskus wannabe!

...Aaaaand he leaped over me and landed next to the sword which I had dropped earlier instead.

*thunk*

And he also threw that damn shoulder guard again for good measure while I was distracted!

While the demon was still no doubt grinning to itself proudly I put as much power as I could into my legs, jumped into the air and grabbed his shoulder guard before he could catch it again.

“Ha! Fuck you!”

I finally felt just a tiny bit satisfied, however that soon disappeared when the armored demon started shaking his arms and legs like he was throwing a tantrum, it was so overly exaggerated that only an idiot wouldn’t be able to tell that he was faking it and wasn’t actually faced in the slightest.

However, that was all I needed.

Well, that and a bit of luck.

When I landed on the ground I leapt again immediately, this time I lept directly at the demon however.

I searched along my arms for one of the edges the the anti-magic cloth I was wearing and, when i got close to the demon, I pulled the cloth as hard as I could.

“!”

For once I was able to catch the demon off guard as when I pulled the cloth the same thing that happened in the inn happened again.

The cloth got bigger.

with the now expanded cloth I covered the demon’s head with it and easily disarmed him while he was trying to recover, then I rammed the sword straight into his left shoulder and cut it off entirely.

“Crieeee!”

*clank*

The demon let out a truly inhuman screech as it’s arm fell from its body and landed on the ground, the plates covering the arm giving off a series of clanking sounds.

The demon hunched forwards and covered what little remained of its let arm with its right hand as it fell on its knees.

I take my distance from the demon to make sure he doesn’t try anything funny again and-

*fsss*

I hear a sound coming from behind me.

I quickly turn around, worried of what the demon might try next, and see that the sound was coming from the detached arm.

Black smoke was seeping out from the armor, when the smoke disperses the only thing left is a metallic shell.

No flesh inside.

*WHAM*

“Gah!”

*thud*

Before I could turn back to the demon again I was hit in the back and sent flying,, I crashed into a wall and fell down to the floor.

The demon stood in front of me, its arm regrown while it held its sword in the newly regrown hand and the rest of the armor that was attached to the severed arm in his other

The demon raised its sword and-

*FOOM*

-had its arm lit on fire by Lizz.

“Crieeee!”

The demon shrieks in pain and fall down to the floor, he clutches his head as the flames spread from the uncovered arm and into the suit of armor.

“Why… Why the hell didn’t you do that sooner... fucker.”

“If I had tried to hit him while only his shoulder guard was missing I would’ve just missed and alerted him that we really could kill him if he wasn’t careful. Here”

Lizz walked up to me and haphazardly tossed some red jellies into my mouth, a fer seconds later I had healed enough to at least let me get up.

*cough* *cough*

The

“Thanks. Speaking of shoulder guard…”

Feeling a lot better after having let the red jellies do their work I walk over to the shoulder guard which was laying on the ground, the only thing left of the demon.

Well, other than the piece of the artefact that it.

Like Lizz said, there’s no way we would’ve defeated this guy if he had been serious from the start.

“Hey Lizz, this thing have any special abilities like the cloak?”

“Nope, it’s just a little extra sturdy.”

“Good enough.”

After picking up the shoulder guard I tied it onto my left shoulder using the anti-magic cloth.

“Now I don’t know about you but I really need to blow off some steam after that.”

“For once I actually agree with you on that Ronnie. How about going into the guard corp’s headquarters and taking a look at what wanted posters they have.”

“Good idea, that way maybe we can even make some money while we’re at it. by the way, you’ve been at this demon killing thing for a long time right? How the hell have you been surviving when almost all the once we’ve encountered have had something to nullify your magic?”

“Like I said, we’ve been getting unlucky, they’re actually really rare.”

After making sure the shoulder guard was on right I walked back over to Lizz before we both went back above ground.

I don’t know whether I mentioned this already or not, but it kinda weirds me out seeing Lizz do some magic hoo-doo voo-doo something-another to repair the walls that the tunnels were in after we exit them, it’s happened every time we’ve done this but I still can’t get used to it.

“I think we walked past the guard corp headquarters or office or whatever you want to call it. It should be this way.” I say and we both start walking to the guard corp’s office.

‘Okay, guard corp headquarter does sound better than guard corp’s office.’

-=Inside the guard corp, Ronnie POV=-

Using Lizz’s invisibility spell we snuck into the guard corp headquarters, currently we’re standing right next to the door leading to the main office of the guard corp captain.

“Hey Lizz, couldn’t we have used this against the demons?”

“Doesn’t work, they can all see through it.”

“Damn.”

We get closer to the wall and listen to what’s going on inside.

“God damnit!” We hear a female voice from inside the office. “Previous captain! Why’d you have to embezzle all the guard corp’s funds and disappear like that!”

I tap Lizz on the shoulder and start whispering:

“This sounds like it could be good.”

Aguard approaches the office so I shut up and let the invisibility spell do its thing while the guard enters the office.

“Captain! The guild won’t accept the wanted posters as quests if we don’t give an adequate reward!”

From inside the office we hear the sound of someone throwing a bunch of paper on a table.

“That’s fine, I’ll think of something. good work.”

“Yessir!”

The guard then comes back out of the office and walks past us again.

“God damnit! We don’t have the money for the guild! We don’t have enough money to hire more guard either! What to do, what to do...” Shouts the guard captain as soon the the guard turns the corner.

“This sounds almost too good to be true.” I say to Lizz who agrees by nodding.

We look around make sure there’s no guards around before Lizz cancels the invisibility spell and we walk into the guard captains office.

“Wh-ho are you!?”

Lizz stays next to the door while I walk into the office and stop next to the desk which the captain is sitting at.

“Helpers.” I say, pick up all the wanted posters which the previous guard had thrown on the table and both I and Lizz walk back outside the office.

With a soft *click* we close the door behind us, the guard captain chases after us but before she can open the door Lizz casts her invisibility spell again, causing the guard captain to be unable to find us as we leisurely walk back outside the guard corp headquarters without any disturbances.

* * * *

“Let’s see… Murderer, scammer, murderer, drug dealers, kidnappers, another murderer… Good god, they’re all so equally bad and punchable that I don’t know where to start!”

“Iyaaaa!”

Suddenly we heard a scream from a nearby alley.

“That sounds like a good place.” Says Lizz mockingly.

“ThAt SoUnDs LiKe A gOoD pLaCe.” I respond in an even more mocking and overly ridiculing tone while shaking my head.

Lizz laughs and we both start moving towards the scream, me by leaping from building to building and Lizz using some fancy floating spell.

“Oh dear, this looks pretty bad.” Says Lizz.

Down in the alley in front of us there was a young ladylike girl surrounded by a man in a suit and a large number of hoodlums.

“Sebby! How could you!?” Screams the crying girl at the suited man.

“Shut up! My name isn’t Sebby, it’s Sebastian! Now get in the fucking bag!”

The suited man, apparently named Sebastian, was holding a very large empty person-sized potato sack.

“If you don’t come along peacefully I’m going to have to ask these gentlemen here to get a bit rough! Eh, to hell with it! Best way to show off power is to use it! Guys, go have some fun!”

The hoodlums started laughing disgustingly as they approached the girl with knives in their hands.

“Hey, I think I think I recognise a few of those hoodlums from the wanted posters. Lizz, do you by chance have any handy dandy spell to keep them from running away?”

Lizz doesn’t answer me with words, but rather with the weird half-telepathy spell.

‘Shit, I forgot that that was even a thing…’

Lizz raises one of her hands and starts making some fancy magic circle, when she finishes light spreads out from the magic formation and covers the entrances to the alley.

“Have fun.”

“Oh I will.”

I jump down into the alley, pick up the girl and leap back out.

“Fucker! Don’t let her run away! Catch her damn it!”

I put the girl down and turn back around to the alley.

“Oh you won’t have to worry about me running away, instead I’ll give you something else to worry about!”

I jump back down into the middle of the hoodlums again.

‘Time to have some fun…’
