《Amongst the Stars》Chapter 8

Arriving at the third floor Leviathan notices that the suns are beginning to rise. He sees B8 standing next to the center most consol with wires extending from both arms. Walking closer he sees that B8’s right arm is different.
“So I take it the transplants were successful?”
B8 turn its head “Mas-"
“AH Shit!” looking at B8’s face he notices that his new left eye is slightly larger and doesn't perfectly fit in its skull like face. “B8 don't scare me like that…”
“Master, I apologize. While you were resting I was looking at the control systems for the mining robots, it appears while they were mining they found another tunnel not dug by them. Following protocol it flagged it in the system but because no one here we just noticed it"
“Ok, here's the plan, I don't think we will benefit if we stay here long term so can you get the mining robots to bring all the ore to the ship?”
“Master, it shouldn't be a problem” wiggling its fingers in the air for a moment “Master, it is done but it will take a while"
“Ok no problem, while they are moving the ore we can go check out that tunnel" cupping his hands behind his back he begins moving towards the lift in the real world I was an athlete who lost his purpose, but now that i've got my legs back I no longer want to be just an athlete. I will turn all my focus on psionics, and if I can run a little in the side that will be great. Arriving at the lift they ride it down.
Stepping off the ship they start walking towards the mines. “B8 how hard do you think it will be to get off this planet? Or at least get some sort of defensive capabilities?”
“Master, I’m not sure how difficult it will be to get off this planet, but if you can get a personal body shield your defense will improve”
“And how do I get that?”
“Master, they are pretty common on level two planets.”
Shaking his head he looks towards the ground mind reading is pretty obvious but psychic communication? I guess it's for talking to people? I wonder if there's a way I can check, Psychic Communication.
Psychic Communication: Ability to converse directly onto the minds of target and relay information.
“Wow it worked"
“Master, what worked"
Shaking his head they arrive just in time to see the robots pushing carts out of the mine filled with ore. After watching all twenty robots leave they finally enter the mine.
Leviathan flicks his arms in front of him and folds them inside the sleeves trying to look wise “B8 we are going on an expedition so we need to be carefully” reaching into his waist he takes out the laser pistol before handing it to B8 “You are still damaged and have a better shot, so be the rear guard for now" refolding his arms he continues to descend into the mines.
B8 pulls the trigger for the laser pistol in his right hand and unslings the rifle from his back to hold in the left, while following Leviathan.

After descending Leviathan arrives at the level ground again, the only difference is that all the doors are opened.
Looking back at B8 “Left or right?”
“Master, from here its left”
Nodding he begins to move towards the left. “What do you think is down here?”
“Master, all the robots did was send a signal that they encountered an anomaly, but what it actually is, the robots are unable to tell, they are only programed to do a job and not an Intelligence like myself.”
After entering the right path a smile creeps on Leviathans face, closing his eyes he releases a pulse of his ability. Receiving no feedback they continue to walk, as he gets to the edge of the last pulse he releases another Great! I can use this as a type of sonar, and if it's just a pulse it doesn't cost much Psi.
Traveling down the tunnel begins to transition into a natural open cave system. Looking at the walls pockets of partially mined ore comes into view. “Master, the area should be just up ahead”
“What should we be looking for?”
“Master, I’m not sure”
“Well, I haven't picked up any signs in this room from my abilities, so either my abilities don't work...or nothing ‘alive’ is here”
“Master, give me a moment and I will find it”
“Ill help look to” Looking at the dim lights attached to the roof he furrows his brows. Looking around the floor he finds some stones and begins throwing them towards the light, eventually knocks it down. Catching the light fixture so it doesn't shatter he begins to illuminate the walls.
Walking along the walls Leviathan begins to mumble to himself “What am I even doing right now, this is supposed to be a sci-fi game and here I am spelunking.”
After examining the cave walls for a while he eventually chances upon an area that's no longer stone and ore, but a type of brick. Looking at the brick he notices a giant five foot crack running diagonally. Running his hand along the brick a cool sensation is transmitted through his palm as a gust of wind blows on his face. Taking a breath he steps through the crack. As the light illuminates the room Leviathan’s jaw drops, infront of him are giant golden pillars filled with archaic carvings. Looking at the brick wall behind him he sees the same style of writing carved along the entire wall, taking a moment he sticks his head through the crack “B8 over here!”
Withdrawing his head he walks towards the golden pillars. Getting closer he sees a total of four pillars evenly spaced across the room. A series of stairs are leading further down placed between the middle pillars, and at the top of the stairs lies a metallic box. Looking around the room he sees four brazzers, two near the box and two near the base of the stairs near a dark entryway. After looking around for a moment B8 finally steps through the crack.
“Master, you found it" looking around the room “this appears to have been built by someone"
“Thanks for the expert analysis B8….” shaking his head he walk up to the pillar “do you know what's on this pillar?”

“Master, this is written in a very old machine language”
Nodding his head “its ok if yo-" wiping his head around, eyes wide, pointing at the pillar “Did you say you know what this means?”
“Master, the pillars seems to be telling a story, from the top of the first pillar to the bottom of this pillar.”
“What type of story, and how does it end?”
B8 begins to study the pillar, Leviathan seeing this walks up to the box. Looking at the box Leviathan waves his hand at hit trying to see if he can hear anything, picking up nothing he waves his hand again, this time sending his thought towards the box Hello?
Getting no reaction he places his hand on top of the box, as he does a strange energy begins to travel into his hand but stops once it comes into contact with the thumb ring. As the energy returns back into the box the lid slides open revealing a sphere the size of a softball and as black as the abyss. As if he can't pull his eyes away from it he reaches out for the object, right before he picks it up B8 calls out to him.
“Master, I’ve translated all I could. The last part says ‘There was no turning back for the machine empire, the Invaders swept through our legions like a plague. I was the last survivor, but my core was damaged in the final battle, even though I have repaired it, I can still feel myself fade. Even at the last moment we do not know from where our enemies come from, but they were beyond our tech level six capabilities. Here I leave the last of my legacy, my core, in hopes one can let the machine empire rises again, the core of the machine king' "
Listening as B8 finishes the story Leviathan looks down at the sphear in the box, reaching down he grasps it in his hand.

‘Transfer AI?’
Seeing the message Leviathan’s eyes go wide “I think I found a better body for you, B8"
“Master, what do you mean?”
“Let's find out" looking at the sphear in his hand Transfer. The ring on his thumb glows slightly and the robotic B8 slumps over, as it does it drops the rifle and laser pistol, causing the pistol to discharge. As the laser strikes the ground it burns a hole in the ground, at the same time another message appears.
‘Transfering AI…..Level six core detected…..Time till transfer complete 60 hrs….Please keep contact for remaining time.’
“Sixty hours?!? Fuck" Looking at the sphere in his hand “How am I supposed to hold onto this for that long? Wont it roll away when I sleep?” Reaching into the pack with his free hand he searches around, bumping into the rations first “Did that medical tank rid me of my hunger?” digging around some more he eventually pulls out some bandages. Using his left hand and mouth he completely wraps his right hand around the ball holding it in place.
“Haha all this increased intelligence is making me a genius!” a satisfied smile on his face he crosses his legs with his hands in his lap Psi.

As his intelligence breaks through 100 it's like an explosion goes off in his mind, his red eyes dim a shade and he stares blankly into the distance. Messages runs through his vision but nothing seems to wake him from his trance.
‘First major threshold broken….Awakening Innate Talent - Intelligence….Processing.’
An unknown amount of time later the sound of a stomach growling wakes Leviathan from his stupor. Blinking slowly the light returns to his eyes.
“Of course…..I was a fool" standing up slowly he shakes his legs to get the blood circulating.
“The way I used my abilities before was so crude" activating his ability a 100ft radius around him is permeated with his power, but his Psi doesn't decrease.
A smile creeps on his face “I don't know why I was using my ability so actively before.” sitting back on the ground he grabs a ration out of his pack and begins to eat Status.

Looking down at his wrapped hand a smile returns to his face “How much time has passed?.”

Trickster's Tale (Book 1): Is That A Lute In Your Pocket will release on Kindle Unlimited on the 10th of May.Due to KU's exclusivity rules, I've had to take most of book 1 down.Book 1 Bard's Ballad takes place in the same extended Universe as my other story, The Houndsman. It's set on a distant 'disk', though. As a result, the magic system is unique in comparison and has a harder LitRPG system. While the story utilises stats, it doesn't take them seriously and occasionally makes fun of regular LitRPG mechanics.
