《Eater》CH 22: Shingo Villager

Waking up in the morning, he realises it was a dream, or rather a nightmare. Ever since he walked past that old lady, he’s being seeing strange things ever since. Linking the two together, a shiver goes down his spine, wondering if he’s been cursed.

Sitting up, a stretching, he looks over and sees the two bear cubs sleeping soundly. Getting up he walks over to the door, exits his room and walks downstairs. Halfway down he hears the trotting of the bear cubs catching up to him, never letting him out of their sight.

“Good morning…” Kaede says as she looks at the two bears, “Uh… so those are the bears, huh?”

“Yeah, they followed me home.” He replies, “I couldn’t say no a second time.”

“So, I’ve heard,” She says referring to Hachi, “We don’t have much in terms of breakfast, so just help yourself to some fruit.”

Doing so, he sits down at the table and begins eating, at his feet are the two bears, looking up at him hoping for a bite as well. Finishing his meal, Kenta opens the storage dimension and takes out the remaining fish, serving breakfast to the hungry bears.

Happily finishing the slimy fish, Kenta steps outside the house, followed by the bears.

Well this is new.

Looking at his new title, he readily equipped it, relinquishing the previous outsider title. He was beginning to feel at home in this village.

Doing his daily sword training, with the two cubs watching from afar, Hachi comes out the house and greets him.

“I see you’re up and training.” Hachi says

“Yeah, I’ve been training since breakfast.” He replies.

“Do you have anything planned for today?” Hachi asks, “If not I could use some help with the farm again.”

“Sure, I can help.“ He accepts, “Just let me go get a drink and I’ll be right back.”

Getting a drink, he walks around the house and meets Hachi.

“Same plan as before.” He instructs.

As he follows Hachi into the field, he sees the broken scarecrow again, remembering his frightful dream. Walking past it the two begin working, the other two, the bear cubs, are playing around in the field, having the time of their life.

Same as the previous day, 4 hours pass, before Kenta gives up from exhaustion. Heading back to the house, they finish the lunch and head their separate ways. Kenta needs a lot of fish to keep a stable diet for the two bears.

Before that though, he walks to the fishing district and meets up with Akira.

“Ah boy, you’re back again.” Akira says.

“Akira, I’d like to buy this rod.“ He says holding out the spare rod, “I’m going to need it a lot in the coming days.”

“Boy, if it were anyone else, I’d sell it.” Akira replies, “But we’re friends, aren’t we? So, as a gift from me to you, I’ll gift it to you.”

Finishing his business, Kenta, leads the two bears back to the fishing spot and begins setting up shop. Sitting down, he takes out the rod and the bait box. As he goes to apply some bait, he remembers that he finished it yesterday.

Alright, guess I got to do it by hand.

Taking his shirt off, he jumps into the sparkling water, leaving the two cubs by the scenic banks, he looks under the cold blue water and finds a plethora of fish. One by one, he catches them and stores it, he needs as many he can get.

While swimming around for a while, catching the slimy fish, he notices something strange, one of the fish has an elongated tooth sticking out from its jaws, kind of like mini fangs. Looking around, none of the other fish have such a property.

After a few hours of swimming, Kenta, floats back to the rocky shore, having caught a total of 22 fish. Perhaps he didn’t need the fishing rod. Hoping out, he puts his shirt back on and stores the equipment.

Taking out a few of the oily smelly fish, he feeds them to the two bears cubs for dinner.

Hmm… I still need to name you guys.

“Alright, you will be Maxi.” He says, pointing the bear with the white chin, “And you shall be Yogi.”

Not paying any attention to what he’s saying, the bears continue to munch down on the fish. Seeing this happy sight, Kenta, turns to look at the other side of the river, half expecting to see a figure there. Fortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any sign of it, bringing a sigh of relief from him. As the velvet red sky turns to a dimming purple, the three begin making their way back home.
