《God's war》Recruitment 12: A lesson

Before the body even hits the ground, it disperses into a shower of sparkly motes of light. I jump back in shock, although it's already too late as my entire right side had been bathed in them.
No, this isn't the time for this! This was the result of some kind of ability. Considering the power, probably an Overskill. But what kind? Some kind of safety teleport? Or an Illusion? Maybe a clone?
If it's one of the first two, my opponent should still be nearby. I quickly look around myself, but I can't see or hear anything. That either means they have a higher range than I assume, or it's the third possibility. That would mean my opponent could be everywhere.
Also, the chance that they know now about my Overskill is high, which puts me at a disadvantage. They may not know the exact limitations of my Pocket dimension, I don't know my opponent limits either.
For all, I know there could still be another ten copies waiting for me. Of course, they could also lie somewhere close to this place, heavily injured. That this was an Illusion is something I don't even want to think about. If they can freely make such Illusions, I don't think I have even the slightest chance of winning, but considering what happened, it doesn't make much sense to do something like that with an Illusion. Which would mean either the ability or the user, or both, are something I simply can't understand.
Missing any good landmark in this monotonous chaos of dull grey structures, I have no choice but to use the outer wall to roughly find the direction I came from, as it is the same direction my opponent had come from.
Only once I crossed one of the bigger structures, do I turn to my right and start making a circle around the area where I fought, trying to find any sign of my enemy.

But before I can even finish the circle, A message suddenly appears.
15min have passed, Arena will reduce in size over the next 45min!
It didn't take me long to notice the wall moving. Slowly, but surely.
This gave me an idea. It is a simple and risky plan, but it is definitely the best I can come up with right now.
I wouldn't do this if I couldn't be fairly sure that my opponent has no means of attacking me from a long distance. And even if their ability is to teleport, I doubt they can just teleport behind me, or else they would have done so already.
So, I put my sledgehammer away, and move in a light jog to the middle of the arena. Once there, I look around and notice a structure formed like a pyramid with a flat top.
I climb to the top and take a deep breath.
"I'M HERE YOU ASSHOLE!!!"
What? We are killing each other already, no real need to be nice about it.
The message has been sent, now I just need to wait. My opponent knows where I am, and my position should allow me to notice them from a distance.
Considering the speed at which the walls move, once time runs out, there should be little to no space left in the arena. But if my guess is right, it should only be around thirty minutes before my enemy runs out of places to hide.
Of course, I'm taking a gamble here. My hope is that knowing my ability, my opponent will hesitate to approach out of fear that I have a gun. Of course, I don't have one, but if they saw me taking out a sledgehammer, why couldn't I have a gun as well? And don't forget, my current position is perfectly defensible with a gun.

What I'm gambling on here, is that my opponent's ability has some kind of drawback, a weakness, or restriction that would make them hesitate. Maybe they can only make a limited number of clones a day, or getting the Illusion forcefully destroyed gives them a headache, similar to what happens if I misuse my own ability.
Whatever it is, I hope it will make them hesitate for at least ten minutes, hopefully double that, and it all comes down to a single desperate attack where I have the high ground, as little of an advantage as it may be giving me.
For the first five minutes, everything went as I hoped. It took me a while to realize, but after only five minutes of staying atop a hill, looking out for anything to happen, only for there to be nothing, a person quickly loses concentration and grows restless.
Where I was standing still at first, I grew increasingly restless, the image of absolute confidence I was trying to convey quickly falling apart.
After that, it only took another five minutes before things started to happen.
Just as I turn around, checking behind me for any movement, I see something in the corner of my eye. Quickly turning towards my left, I see exactly the same boy as earlier shooting towards me, barely hindered by the upward slope.
Just in time am I able to lower my spear and line it up with my opponent. Not a moment later does his full weight impact on my spear, ramming it straight through my opponent's guts and out of his back.
But I made a mistake. In my haste, I underestimated the sheer force of my enemy.
As my spear was ripped out of my hand, and the inertia kept my enemy flying towards me, he rams his knives into my body and bowls me down just before he once again dissolves into motes of light.
"Surprise motherfucker!"
Before my mind can properly process the pain, I hear a shout from above me coming from another version of the boy I just killed.
Unable to react any other way, I roll to the side, trying to evade the attack from above, rolling down the slope of the structure painfully as I fall over the edge.

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
