《Unexpected Reincarnation》Chapter 17: Back To Hogwarts

How ironic. The child who stopped the Dark Lord, Voldemort and stopped the Wizarding War, is now a malnourished child sleeping inside a fucking closet under the stairs. Why? For what purpose would you keep someone as famous as him albeit a bit mysterious here? Dumbledore, I don't believe you wouldn't know someone as famous as Harry Potter. Look over here, the savior of wizardkind is treated like garbage by his relatives. Just look at the boy, he's so thin and his clothes are oversized and old, actually, those might be second-hand.

Haah~

I sigh inwardly and ask again, "You're Harry Potter?"

"That's me."

"Has no one told you that you were a wizard?"

"Wizard? As in the ones who do magic?"

"Yeah."

"Stop with the jokes, please. How can I be a wizard when they're not real?"

"Haah~ Reparo!", I sigh audibly, take out my wand, and chant. The bridge of his glasses which were held together by tape was repaired and the tape removed itself.

His eyes widen at the sight of me performing magic. "MAGIC IS REAL?!", he screams with shock after pinching his cheek. I don't tell him to keep quiet because Regnum Ignotum is still in effect.

"Yeah, it's real, and wait, haven't you ever seen or felt anything strange?"

"No not rea- if I think about it sometimes things would float around but I don't remember why?"

"That's magic. How old are you?", I ask.

"I'm ten this year."

"That's good."

"Why?"

"There's a school for people who can do magic and you can only enter this school when you become eleven. It's called Hogwarts. At least, not before the exams finish."

"Hog-what?"

"Hogwarts", I say again.

But just as I was about to explain more, I notice a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt on his forehead.

"Huh? What happened to your head?"

"You mean the scar? I don't really know. It's been with me always as far as I know."

Huh? He shouldn't be born with a scar. That means something happened. But what?

Just as I was about to ask more, I hear the others come from the dining room. I tell him, "Just hold out for one more year. Don't tell your uncle and aunt. Once you turn eleven, you can enroll in Hogwarts."

"Y-Yeah thanks. I hope so.", he says.

Harry Potter has been living with his uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia ever since he was little. However, they didn't like him as much as they did their son Dudley. However, People may think that to be normal. Sure, a family might like their own child more than someone else's child they're raising. But, Harry wasn't 'people'. He already felt a bit sad at the blatant neglect they've shown him for the eight or so years he's been with them. They'd make him do the dishes, make him cook food, and do chores but didn't have the decency to give him a good room or brand new clothes. So he was stuck wearing Dudley's old clothes sleeping in a closet under the stairs. Harry being a child didn't understand why they didn't like him but it made him feel bad. Yet, he could do nothing about it.

He had little knowledge of the outside world, still, he felt like any place would be better than here. Today was Christmas eve. Uncle Vernon told him that guests would arrive today, so he was to keep himself shut inside his room. Harry could do nothing but listen to his uncle's orders. Soon, night fell and he could hear the door to the house open.

"Welcome, Selene and Tom!", his aunt's voice welcomed a couple. "You must be Sol, we also have a son your age. His name is Dudley. I hope you can be friends with him."

Huh, they also have a son. But that doesn't matter to Harry.

"Sure thing, Mrs. Vernon.", a voice sounded out which must be the boy's, Sol.

Soon after Harry hears Dudley lead the boy to his room. So, he closes his eyes and tries to sleep in his tiny bed.

After a while, Harry's sleep is broken with the sound of someone knocking on his door. "Is anyone in there?", a voice sounded out. That's the boy's voice. What does he want? Hope he isn't like Dudley. Harry keeps quiet hoping that the boy would leave.

"There seems to be a problem with your body.", the boy said.

Huh? What's he saying? There's nothing wrong with me. But, Harry thought about it for a while. Why would a boy he didn't know come up to his door and say that to him? There's something going on!

Harry waits for a while then opens his door and looks at the boy in front of his room. He was tall, looked to be twelve or thirteen years old. He had black hair and sharp ocean-blue eyes. The boy seemed to be analyzing him. Nonetheless, Harry worriedly asked, "What's wrong with my body?"

The boy seemed a bit surprised, "You don't know?"

"Don't know what?", was it something that Harry was supposed to know?

"Haven't your parents told you anything?", the boy asked again.

"Oh, they're not my parents. They're my uncle and aunt.", Harry didn't like his uncle and aunt getting called his parents, he may not have them but he felt like his own parents wouldn't treat him like this.

The boy asked another question, with a shocked expression, "Huh? They're not your parents? What's your name?"

"My name's Harry. Harry Potter.", Harry replied.

He saw that the boy made a face that seemed as if he had seen the sky falling. Then his expression became one of deep thought before he asked, "You're Harry Potter?"

"That's me?"

"Has no one told you that you were a wizard?"

"Wizard? As in the ones who do magic?", Harry felt like the boy was messing with him.

"Yeah."

"Stop with the jokes, please. How can I be a wizard when they're not real?", Harry just wanted the boy to stop.

Then the boy did something incredulous. He took out a wooden stick, pointed it at him, and said a word that he didn't quite catch. Then as if like magic, his broken glasses were fixed and the tape holding them together came off on its own. Harry felt like he was dreaming but it wasn't obviously real as his cheeks still hurt when he pinched them. With a shout, Harry exclaimed, "MAGIC IS REAL?!"

"Yeah, it's real, and wait, haven't you ever seen or felt anything strange?", the boy affirmed.

Harry thought about it for a while but he couldn't remember anything, "No not rea-" but he remembered that time things in his room started floating when Aunt Petunia scolded him even though Dudley was the one who broke her vase, "If I think about it sometimes things would float around but I don't remember why?"

"That's magic. How old are you?", the boy asked.

"I'm ten this year.", Harry replied.

"That's good."

"Why?", Harry asked again.

Then the boy said something that instilled a sliver of hope in Harry, "There's a school for people who can do magic and you can only enter this school when you become eleven. It's called Hogwarts. Students can stay there without having to return home. At least, not before the exams finish."

"Hog-what?", the name was a bit unheard of so Harry had to ask again if he misheard or something.

"Hogwarts", the boy again said.

He noticed the boy opening his mouth but closing it suddenly and looking at his head as if he noticed something odd.

"It must be the scar.", Harry thought to himself.

As Harry guessed, the boy asked, "Huh? What happened to your head?"

"You mean the scar? I don't really know. It's been with me always as far as I know.", Harry truly didn't know. He always had this scar as far as he could remember. But it didn't cause him any problems.

It felt like the boy wanted to say more but he just started to leave. But before he left, the boy have Harry some encouragement, "Just hold out for one more year. Don't tell your uncle and aunt. Once you turn eleven, you can enroll in Hogwarts."

"Y-Yeah thanks. I hope so.", Harry said.

As the boy went upstairs, Harry closed the door to his room so that his uncle wouldn't scold him. In his closed room, Harry kept thinking about what the boy said. He felt what the boy said must've been the truth. After all, the boy told him and proved that magic was real. Before meeting that boy, Harry would've never imagined that magic was real, much less believed that he was someone who could control magic. But this boy made the impossible possible. So, Harry felt hopeful. He truly believed that there was a school for people like him and that he would finally be away from the Dursleys. He felt like he could trust the boy.

"His name was Sol, was it?", Harry recalled the boy's name.

And like that, he drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face and hopeful thoughts in his mind.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm currently on the Hogwarts Express, on my way back to school. Christmas has ended and so has my vacation. I'm in a compartment with Katie and Cormac. It's not like we didn't talk with Cho. Rather even after we were sorted, we talked with her every chance we got. But it seems her friends in Ravenclaw make her a bit more comfortable. Well, that doesn't matter to me.

As for the thing with Harry, I told my mother. She didn't give any opinions because she knew that my choice of not doing anything was the right thing. I mean what could we do? The Dursleys were Harry's legal guardian and without a good reason, we couldn't do anything. As for Dumbledore, I wasn't sure how to meet him much less ask his help for something like this. And I have a sneaking suspicion that Dumbledore has something to do with this. I mean, Harry was the reason the war ended and you're telling me Dumbledore, the strongest light wizard, one of the people who was the most active against Voldemort wouldn't know? It's ludicrous. And if this was Dumbledore's work, then why would you do this? This has no merit. You could take him under your wing and train him to be a splendid wizard to help wizardkind.

Haah~

I really can't wrap my head around this. Well, no use thinking about what has happened, it's better to think about what I'm going to do. I've already given him hope. The state I saw him in gave me a good idea of how poorly the Dursleys treated him. He'll definitely keep his mouth shut. He doesn't want his only hope of leaving the Dursleys getting nipped in the bud. I'll have to monitor him and this mysterious scar of his when he enrolls into Hogwarts next year. And as to why I think the scar is mysterious, it's perfectly normal to have scars. Maybe he had an injury when he was small and doesn't remember. But Harry's past isn't normal. And no one just has a scar in the shape of a perfect lightning bolt. If that has something to do with his victory against Voldemort, then I need to know what it is and see if I can use it myself.

It seems the next year will become a whole lot interesting.
