The Fae,

The Fae as a race are very similar to Aurei or Nymphs, Spiritual races. Originally Fae are ethereal spirits known as Sprites which are attuned with the element of nature, they have different stages to their lifetime depending on how they wish to spend it.

Fae birth has nothing to do with how many other races produce, it is entirely spiritual in nature. It only requires a single Fae to bring around another but that Fae requires more power than it needed to create it’s own body, the mana made physical body of a Fae is known as a Fairy.

Once a Fae has gathered enough spiritual mana they go to their own birth tree, a golden evergreen called EverFae. These trees are a Fae’s core or as more commonly known inhabited by their soul, through the tree’s lifetime it gathers mana for the Fae to use. The Fae flows that mana into the tree which will grow a seed out of one of it’s roots to create another EverFae, that new EverFae will grow over time and care until it bears the only fruit it ever will.

A Fairy Fruit is the child of a Fae, a soul being processed by the now matured EverFae. The fruit is a large bright blue berry of sorts, the flow of mana and soul within entirely visible to the outside through it’s thin shell. When the fruit has finished processing it hatches, the fruit bursts apart allowing the Sprite freedom for it’s new consciousness.

A Sprite then has three choices, either remain an ethereal being forever that can only be seen by other Fae races or sacrifice their immortality for thousands of years within a physical body. They have two choices for a physical body, one the least commonly used is for them to inhabit their EverFae and become a Fae sub-race known as a Spriggan.

Spriggans similarly to Treants are Treefolk, a Fae in the form of tree or less commonly other plantlife as EverFae can rarely spawn a different greenery although most forms have been lost to memory becoming nothing more than legends.

The second choice which is the most commonly used these days is for the Sprite to gather spiritual mana into themselves as one would do to birth another Fae but instead of flowing that energy into their EverFae they use it shape their Fairy bodies to their liking then inhabit them. Unlike becoming a Spriggan, becoming a Fairy takes centuries of mana gathering and mana control training to craft the intricate body.

When the Fae’s mana body dies it’s consciousness returns to their EverFae where it is reborn as a Sprite yet loses all it’s memories from it’s time being a Fairy. If the EverFae dies then the Fae becomes something known as a Dark Sprite, a soulless Sprite, a being of pure spiritual mana unbound by emotion.

If the EverFae dies and the Fae is still within their body of mana then they will become something much more than a trickster being such as a Dark Sprite, something much more villainous.

When a Fairy loses their EverFae to whatever reason, they become the corrupted being known as a Dark Fairy. They lose control over the mana that was their Fairy body and have their minds constantly barraged by that power as it tries to return to their soul which would be currently traveling to the after life, the mind or consciousness being the only thing remaining that is connected to the passing soul becomes a beacon for the mana.

That Fairy will either eventually go insane and corrupt their own bodies with dark mana to regain control over it or retain their sanity and allow themselves to disappear in agony.

On the other hand when a Spriggan dies their bodies simply goes through the same process a tree’s would be after death, their soul moves on to the afterlife and their consciousness dissipates with the body.

There exists a legend among the Fae that if a Sprite stays an ethereal being while also gathering spiritual energy without using it to either birth another or make their Fairy bodies, that Sprite will evolve and become an ascended being known as Faerie.

Very little is known about Faeries, only two things actually. One is that they have boundless power with their ability to bend environmental mana to their will and second that due to their boundless power and ethereal form they can phase through reality’s veil and into other dimensions freely. One fear that comes from actually doing so is that a Faerie will end up accidentally phasing into a Void or a [1]Plane.

Albeit being Deities, Oberon and Titania lowered themselves to temporary mortality to be closer to their children.

When the Dezol Legions appeared on New Ruk the Fae were exterminated very quickly having had their EverFae immediately targeted by the Devils and their demonic underlings. Many Fairies were turned into Dark Fairies due to this creating a brand new force of soldiers for the Dezol legions along with another reason for the Fae to utterly despise them.

It is said that the reason Lilliana betrayed her father is because her Fairy body’s EverFae was destroyed or corrupted by dark magic, some that were closer to the royal family like Helen do not believe in this sort of event but many of the surviving Fae population do.

The Fairy God King Oberon and Goddess Queen Titania also had their own EverFae destroyed resulting in King Oberon slowly falling to insanity as he commanded the surviving armies of Fae, Dwarves and Barik into defeating the invading First Dezol Legion. Due to his worsening state of sanity Oberon was defeated in battle although his strategy in the end gaining victory for Barik in the long run.
