《The Life of a Dungeon》Chapter 43

POV Elder Neda
Neda starred up into the stars late at night, contemplating the most recent changes to this area. She was pretty surprised by the creation of a new dungeon in this area, for she knew the secrets that lay beneath Porta’s soil and water and the surrounding areas.
While she might look very young, Neda was old, old enough to know about the whispers and secrets of the past that laid and slept within the Everlasting Mountains. For she was the Keeper of Antiquity. A title passed down to the eldest daughter in each generation within the line of the Talula clan.
Neda’s clan had inhabited the Portgan lake area since the last destruction and recreation of this world. For her clan knew secrets and information that have long been lost to time. They were the protectors of these secrets and these historical areas. There is one hidden beneath the Everlasting Mountains and under the lake under her watch.
The legends and stories that have long been lost tell of a dungeon that grew very, very powerful. The story goes that before the continents separated, there was a powerful dungeon. So powerful that it rivalled the gods. Many of the creatures and sentient species around today were said to be born within that dungeon. It had many names, but as the stories go, it’s name was Vita. Within it’s halls, Vita created worlds upon worlds. But one day, the core did something stupid. They angered the gods.
Vita angered the gods so much that hundreds of gods and goddesses rained down violence upon the dungeon in a fit of fury. Destroying the beautiful worlds and habitats that it created, as well as the core. But also splitting the continent into seven pieces. Out of the destroyed dungeon’s rubble and ruin, the dungeon’s surviving members crawled out and survived outside their original home. Adding new species and new sentient species to the ones that initially existed outside of the dungeon.

While only still told in a small number of regions, this story has been passed down primarily through her family. But there were two details that her family kept secret all these millennia. One is that the dungeon core is not entirely dead. And second, the dungeon core of Vita is located somewhere very deep under the Everlasting Mountains. It is her family’s job to keep the core safe and its history alive. This job was placed on the first matriarch of her family by an unknown stranger. Her family’s first matriarch survived the gods’ anger and made her new home, where the mighty dungeon was destroyed. Occasionally the ground will still shake with the god’s anger towards Vita.
For it is the Talula clan’s duty to watch over the ruins of the Dungeon of Vita. And right now, it was her job to look after the Dungeon of the Lost. Due to the dungeon’s place, as it is really close to Vita, Neda will keep a closer eye on any more peculiarities that the dungeon will create or display.

POV Teaghan
After some long observations of everything within her domain and her actions since coming to this world, Teaghan realized that she had been doing things wrong. She had taken a closer look at her dungeon and realized that many of the things that she did were wrong, especially with her need to explore.
Teaghan had put her desire to explore at the forefront of her mind and ignored her dungeon. For her growth was the most essential thing as it protected her from those who wanted to enslave or kill her.
She knew that her dungeon needed a lot of work to fix the wrong things that she had done in the past. And Teaghan knew that she needed time to do this all at once, effectively making her dungeon new again. But for that, she needed time to work, and the only place that Teaghan knew might have something that would provide this is the dungeon store.

Teaghan pulled up the dungeon store, found the search engine, and typed in time. What came up was exciting and fascinating, but not what she was looking for. She typed in blocks, entrances, and then the magic word that finally described what she was looking for, wards.
While in the ward area on the dungeon store, there were many unrelated items that Teaghan did not need. But it did hold one that could help keep out any invaders or adventurers, a blocking ward. The blocking ward prevented anything from entering or exiting a small area. While the ward only covered a small space, it was enough to cover each floor’s entrances. Though it cost 50 DP points, it was something that she needed. So she purchased it and waited until every being that was not part of her dungeon exited it. She set the ward over the entrance into her dungeon.
Teaghan, in an attempt to be humorous, sculpted a small sign out of wood and inscribed the words “under construction” onto the sign. She then placed and fixed the sign onto the design surrounding her entrance.
When she fixed the sign to the entrance, she smiled, ‘I hope the adventurers will enjoy this as I will enjoy their reactions.’

POV Lillian
Lillian was a girl born who had always wanted to become an adventurer. Still, Porta was so isolated that there was no Adventurers Guild anywhere close to the town. The only adventurers that passed through the town got rid of the really dangerous monsters that would occasionally come down from the Everlasting Mountains. Or the ones that pass through on their way through one of the few passable routes leading through the mountains.
She saw one of these adventurer groups that were passing through town on an expedition, and she wanted to be one ever since. And with a dungeon opening up close to town allowed Lillian to reach her dream. She formed an official group with a couple of her friends that wanted to be adventurers and prepared for their first dungeon dive.
That’s how they found themselves in this situation. Her group wanted to be one of the firsts one’s to get in the dungeon on that day, so they got up really early, got ready, and made their way towards the dungeon.
What greeted them there was a small crowd of people circling the entrance reading something. Lillian was curious and walked faster than her group to see what the commotion was about.
“What’s happening?” Lillian asked what looked like a ranger.
“The dungeon closed itself,” responded the ranger.
“Closed itself? How?” asked Lillian while she was trying to understand how that was happening because, as far as she was aware, dungeons were not able to close themselves.
“Apparently the dungeon is under construction,” responded the ranger as he chuckled.
“Why are you laughing?” asked Lillian, who was trying to understand what was so funny about this situation. “Isn’t this really bad?”
The ranger glanced at her from the corner of his eye and said, “Dungeons sometimes do this, but when they do this, there tends to be a very different environment inside. I’m just excited to see what the dungeon does to itself, for it could be very good for us or horrible.”
