《I Came Back In Order To See You》1-25 : Union Center

Talia and Sanya were standing at the school gate. Not a lot of people were still at school, except for the teachers and others staff members. It had started raining quite a moment ago, and, even if it was not a lot, the ground was already drenched. Passerbys could be seen here and there with umbrellas or a hood over their head. The two girls were there, in the middle of the rain. They didn’t have a cover over their head, but not a drop of water was visible on their white shirt. Sanya extended her arms forward. She suddenly felt raindrops on her fingertips. “...Magic is quite handy.”
Talia, on her side, made a pouch appeared in her hand. She opened it and took out a Zinlan candy. “I'm at the peak of Water attribute magic. Controlling some failing water drops is as easy as breathing.”
She passed the pouch to Sanya and ate the candy. Meanwhile, Sanya looked inside the pouch only to see glittering candies, waiting to be eaten. She also took out one with a troubled face. ‘I want to eat it, but my weight…’
Sanya glanced sideways at Talia, and more precisely at her slim waist. ‘...I wonder if she now works out. If she does, I will ask her if I can come along.’
She ate the candy in her hand while thinking this.
Suddenly, a car approached them. It was a black military hummer, just like the day before. The car stopped in front of them and the driver door and the front passenger door opened. Talia spread the zone protected from the rain. Darius came out from the driver door, while Yui, the clumsy woman, came out from the passenger door. The two of them were surprised when they didn’t feel the rain on them. Yui held her hand to see that there was really no rain, while Darius seemed to understand the situation as he turned his head in Talia’s direction and nodded in thanks.
The two of them approached the two girls. Darius was dressed in a black military uniform. This time he was not armed. Yui was in a suit like the previous day. Talia nodded her head with a smile in greetings. “I feared that you would come like yesterday, prepared to escort some powerless person.”
From Talia’s point of view, bringing soldiers could not be more useless. There was not really something that could pose a threat to her and not to ordinary armed people. Same if their goal had been to put pressure on her. It was not a few dozens of them that could confront her. Darius heaved his shoulders with a bitter in response to Talia’s teasing remark. It looked like he shared her view on this point. “Order from the higher-ups. I’m only a captain. I can’t go against them.”
“Is that so? Must be rough. Anyway, let’s go.” Talia went to the door of the backseats and opened. When Darius saw Sanya following her, he tilted his head.
“Do we have to drop you home?”
Talia had already entered the car, and Sanya was holding the top of the door. She turned with a questioning face. “No? I’m coming too.”
Suddenly, Talia’s voice came from the inside of the hummer. “What are you doing? Unlike you two proper grown-ups we, minors, can't stay out too late.”
Hearing her, Sanya finally entered the car, leaving the speechless Darius and Yui behind. Yui turned toward Darius agape. On the other hand, he put his head in his hand and sighed. He patted the woman on his side’s shoulder. “I give up. I let you take over. Good luck with your job.”

He went to enter the driving door. Yui was looking at him like she just had been abandoned on a battlefield.
--------------------------------------
Sanya was looking at the falling rain outside of the moving car with a smile. her hand was brushing Talia’s hair, whose head was on her laps. During this time, Talia was eating Zinlan candies one after another one while enjoying the softness of her girlfriend’s thighs. Darius looked at the scene through the rearview. “Ms. Chevalier, could you at least use the seatbelt.”
Talia glanced sideways and only replied after swallowing the liquified candy in her mouth. “There is no need for seatbelts when I’m inside the car. Well, knowing how strong you are yourself, there would also be no need. I will have to work only after a bit less than 2 days of rest. I can at least enjoy some moments with my lover, right?”
Her statement picked Darius and Yui ‘s intention. Yui turned her head to look at Sanya. “But, you said to me you were not dating yesterday.”
Sanya looked ahead of her and scratched her cheek in embarrassment. “Yes, that’s right. We were not dating at this time. But, she confessed just after, and now…”
Talia had a slight blush on her expressionless face. “A-Anyway, yesterday you said that the higher-ups wanted to meet me, but who is there?”
Talia knew that there would surely be Demetrio Allocca, but she had heard that there were several people planned for the meeting. Darius glanced sideways at Yui. The clumsy woman sighed and began to explain. “The meeting is with the Head Of The Union, Demetrio Allocca, and the representatives of the different ministry.”
“I see. And the destination is the Union Center. What is it? Buildings or something?” The inside of the car immediately fell silent. Sanya didn’t bother even retorting, while Yui looked at Talia dumbfounded. Same for Darius, who was looking at her in the rearview. Yui could not help but ask. “...Are you serious? Your father works there and you don’t know what it is?”
“Oh? So, you did research on my family. How smart of you. It would have been smarter if you didn’t let those words slip.” Yui covered her mouth as she started to panic. In order to calm down the situation, Darius intervened.
“Sorry Ms. Chevalier, but we have procedures to follow.”
Talia just brushed it off. “Don’t worry, I understand. Also just call me Talia. Being called miss by someone that looks older than me seems strange. So, is the one who gave those orders also the one who told you to come with your unit?”
Yui replied to the question. “Yes. His name is George Keller. He is in charge of the Interior Ministry. The Union Center is an agglomeration of several buildings belonging to the different services. The level of security is not the same from a building to another. The Administration Department, where your father works have a low level. The reason is that the data would not pose a threat to the Union if some pieces of information were stolen. Meanwhile, the Military Department or the Abilities Quarters, where the Head of The Union resides, are on a whole different level of security. The place where we are going now is the Abilities Quarters, which is also used in order to hold important meetings.”
Talia absorbed the new information that she surely had already known in the past. She still needed to ask one more question. “When you came back yesterday without me and said that I took the day off, did some of them were pissed off?”

Yui and Darius thought for a second before laughing awkwardly. Darius explained. “Some were surprised while some were angry. But, the one who was enraged was George Keller. As the one responsible for the security of Pacifica, he was not really in favor of letting you alone in the wilds. He even wanted to send more troops to bring you back forcefully, but the other ministers were against it. Well, I only heard this from my superior. We know that you are not normal, but we don’t have a lot of details ourselves.”
Talia smirked as she gazed at the ceiling of the car. ‘As expected.’
--------------------------------------
After a moment, they arrived in front of the Union Center. The first building was 5-story tall. It was long and in a curve along the street. Seeing it, Yui opened her mouth. “This is the Administration Department. It’s the biggest building here. This department has for objective to regulate the use of abilities in the world and the declaration and ranking.”
They passed along a lot of different buildings belonging to the departments. The design was quite simple in order to make it easy to plan and build. The foundation of the Union was a bit less than 40 years ago, making it quite recent. They had to create easy to build buildings as to allow it to function quickly. It was for this reason that the overall design in Pacifica was not so beautiful, but quite sturdy. There were also plans in the future to reshape the exterior and interior by mixing the different cultures present.
In the end, they arrived in front of an impressive cube-shaped building. It was circled by tall metal fences with guards at regular intervals. The car stopped in front of a barrier. A guard went up to the driver lowering window. Darius took out a card and lent it to the guard. After taking it, he passed it through the slit of a device in his hand. He looked at a screen for a second before giving back the card and raising the barrier.
After driving a bit, Darius parked the car and got out. the others followed him as he made his way inside the building. The inside was also quite simple. At the entrance, there were three metal detector doors with quite a lot of strong-looking soldiers positioned there. When they saw Darius they gave a salute, while he nodded. Talia saw it. “You seems quite known here.”
Darius laughed lightly before explaining. “I’m the captain of the 9th special unit. Our purpose, alongside the 8th and 7th units, is to protect this place and carrying out special operations inside the city.”
Talia was walking while looking around her, with a nervous Sanya just behind her. Sanya had decided to come because she wanted to see the world that Talia would live now. Talia also wanted to show her something, and since yesterday she had grown quite curious about Talia’s amazing powers. Nevertheless, she was now in a place that she only had seen on TV, and she was about to meet people that had a big influence in the world. She stayed close to the only one that she could entirely trust.
The four of them arrived in front of the metal detector doors and Talia noticed that some soldiers seemed quite tense, while the others gave the two girls curious look, especially their uniform. Two schoolgirls here accompanied by an important member of the army was a strange view. Even more, the soldiers were fully armed, making the atmosphere tense. Talia was familiar this as she had to act as a delegation as a Protector before.
They passed through the detectors without problems and made their way toward a corridor while several soldiers followed them. Suddenly, Talia stopped walking as she thought of something, bringing the others’ attention to her. She asked. “It’s an official meeting, so should I wear something more proper for the occasion?”
Everyone present, including Sanya, could not follow her train of thought. Darius and Yui looked at each other before landing their eyes on her with a clueless expression. “Sure that would have been better, but we don't have much time.”
Talia waved it off. Space started to distort around her, making the others open their eyes wide. Even the soldiers became tenser as their grip on the frame of their weapon tightened. Only Sanya was standing there with a face filled with curiousness as she knew what she was doing.
After a short moment, Talia was in a whole different outfit. It was a crimson ceremonial military uniform. Her dragon-shaped earring was visible. The right side of her back and her right shoulder was covered by a black silky cape. There was a dragon head sewed on the cape with an orb with the Roman number I inside. The sewing color of the uniform was gold, making it a good match with the crimson color.
Talia twirled once as to proudly show off. She stopped in front of Sanya and stuck a pose. “This is my official clothes for everything when we have to be serious. Anyway let-”
Talia suddenly stopped in her tracks. Darius and Yui were already shocked by her instant change of clothes, but they were even more intrigued by her next moves.
‘A spatial distortion? Which means someone is in the middle of teleporting here. They seem prudent, checking if dense matters are present inside the warp spot. From the looks of it, they surely detected my own space manipulation, making the person quite sensitive. They are also quite experimented...Wait, this shape of incoming teleportation.’ Talia held up her hands in the thin air, causing the others to look at her with an even more dumbfounded expression. However, what happened just after was a lot more shocking.
Space once again distorted, but this time in a different way. It was like it was compressed until a limit then expanded extremely fast outward. The result was the apparition of a little girl of around 10 years. She was wearing a very cute white hoodie with black cat ears attached to the top and a stuffed tail on the hips area. She was also wearing a navy skirt with black thigh high stockings. She had long black hair and cute black eyes. Her childish face was adorable and seemed so soft.
She just appeared in mid-air, making her falling. But, something stopped her descent abruptly. Her eyes were glued to the blue haired girl that was holding her in the air with a thin grin. The little girl’s agape expression immediately changed.
“WOOOOOOOOAHH!!!”
Her face beamed with joy and happiness as she just found something very very interesting.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).

Frameshift
Magic. Math. Not a whole lot of context. Two months ago, I was a wormhole navigator, ripping open a hole in the universe to save a ship of people who only vaguely tolerated me. Two weeks ago, long story short, I threaded an impossible path through the void between dimensions to crash-land into a dungeon. You know the kind: monsters to defeat, corridors full of traps to avoid, and magical powers to earn. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's been two weeks of loneliness, fear, adrenaline, and constant injury. But I'll make it out of here by myself if I have to, or my name isn't Adam Leviathan James. ... too bad the Levi doesn't stand for Leviathan, huh. AN: Expectations should include in medias res, violence, smut, friendship, and powers/progression systems with absolutely an insufficiency of context and (at least at first) no definitions or explanations, and magic-as-programming/engineering (with something of an emphasis on "what if magical runework were an analogue to circuit diagrams"). This story used to be called "Yet Another Godsforsaken Isekai". Discord server: https://discord.gg/dHh3XMMB4T Cover by the amazing Daedalus of The Way Ahead.
