《Saiyan in a Cultivation World》Chapter 6 - Affinity

It didn't take them long to get to the kitchen and prepare themselves some food.
Xiao Mei and Fang Shen turned up shortly after them as well, so they all sat down and decided to have an early lunch. Fang Xiong and Master Long had plate after plate of food as if they were both insatiable beasts, while Xiao Mei and Fang Shen had a plate of two of food before feeling full.
Fang Xiong looked over at his Master and felt some comradery over their food situations. Master Long had to eat a lot to keep his Ki Cultivator body alive, so to someone like Fang Xiong who ate more than normal people and felt weird because of it, Master Long was a welcomed addition to Fang Xiong's young mind.
Nonetheless, he never felt embarrassed about his eating, just that he was the odd one out all the time.
Xiao Mei watched her brother eat with a happy yet sad smile on her face. She knew this was one of the last times she'd see her brother happily eating, for a while anyway, but something inside her told her that when she got to the academy she should stay there and focus on Cultivation; to become stronger for her brother and father.
She knew they would both be saddened by this decision but she knew their father would understand it and Fang Xiong would come to accept it as her wanting to simply gain more power but...
Knowing they would accept it didn't make it the decision any easier to make.
Fang Shen looked between his gluttonous son and his gentle daughter and couldn't help but think he had two wonderful children. Both prodigies in their own ways, he just hoped he did enough for them as a father.
Focusing in on Fang Xiong, he thought about when he would show his son the 'meteor' he came in. But as soon as the thought came up, Fang Shen snuffed it out, convincing himself that he would wait until before Fang Xiong went to an academy to show him his origins.
. . .
They had all finished their lunch and all went their separate ways. Xiao Mei going to the library of the clan estate, Fang Shen going back to his study to read a few books himself and Master Long and Fang Xiong going back to the courtyard.
Along the way, Fang Xiong seemed to remember something and looked up at Master Long, "Old man, why'd you take some of my blood before I broke through?" he tried not to sound suspicious of his Master's motives but it naturally just came out like this anyway. Knowing how he had sounded, he instantly went to apologize but was stopped by his Master's deep laughter.
"No, no, don't worry, you're right to suspect someone who randomly takes your blood, even me, your Master," he put a hand on Fang Xiong's shoulder, patting it, "I did it because we need to know which page of the book you have the most affinity with," his voice was purposely vague and despite Fang Xiong's confused expression, he didn't elaborate at all.
Fang Xiong could only huff in annoyance and wait for when they reached the courtyard for his Master to answer him.

Luckily for the eternally impatient Fang Xiong, the distance between the dining room and the courtyard was negligible, so they arrived there quite quickly.
"Sit down, Xiong'er, I'll tell you what I meant just now," like always, Fang Xiong sat down so his Master could lecture him.
Master Long composed himself before bringing out the bowl with blood in it from earlier and also the book for the Heavenly Beast Method, "You probably saw it when I was guiding your key earlier but my affinity with this books lies with the Lion," he opened the book to a certain page and showed Fang Xiong. Oddly enough, there was nothing on the page, "But you can't see that, because your affinity hasn't been fully awoken," he flicked through a few other pages which also showed him nothing but blank paper.
Fang Xiong started to understand what his Master was talking about. He didn't have an affinity with any of the animals in the book yet so he couldn't see any of their pages and he didn't have any affinity because his was still dormant and unawakened. So the blood must be because...
Cutting him off from his thinking, Master Long spoke while pointing at Fang Xiong, "To awaken your affinity, or more accurately to find out what your affinity is, you will need to pour your Ki into your blood," he pointed to the bowl, "And then pour it over the affinity page at the back of the book," he flipped all the way to the back page which seemed to shimmer as Fang Xiong looked at it.
"So, how do I pour my Ki into the blood?" Fang Xiong looked at his Master with a lost look on his face.
Master Long laughed before giving him some pointers, "It's not particularly hard, you just need to either put your finger or your whole hand into the blood in the bowl and then grasp the Ki in your Dantian before pulling it to your hand and imbuing the blood with it."
Fang Xiong looked suspicious that it would be that easy but did as he was told and put his index finger into the blood before closing his eyes and going back to where he remembered his Dantian was.
He found that it surprisingly easy to find and saw the familiar ball of golden energy from earlier, slowly exuding nourishing rays of energy onto his body fueling its growth. Thinking that finding it was just as easy as his Master said he tried to mentally grab at it.
Sadly, he failed and instead sent a ripple throughout the body of the energy ball.
Grunting in annoyance, Fang Xiong tried a few more times to brute force the Ki to follow him but in the end, a part of him calmed him down and told him to try a different approach. He thought about what Ki was like and how he would have to be to handle it.
He wasn't too good at being precise, his fighting style being 'use brute force' all the time, so when he went to control his Ki he pretty much instinctively used the same way as his fighting style.
But now that he thought about it, he was being incredibly stupid. Ki was calm and collected, so wouldn't it make sense to calmly lead the energy instead of aggressively pulling it?

Knowing he was onto something, Fang Xiong mentally willed for there to be a small suction force in front of a part of the Ki Ball. At first, the suction was too weak and it didn't move the Ki at all and then it was too strong and it moved the entire Ki Ball.
Fang Xiong wanted to through a fit of anger at this but he kept himself calm and suppressed his anger.
He thought for what seemed a while before he came up with the same idea but slightly different.
He placed a covering over the entirety of the Ki Ball in the way of a small film of something akin to mental force. The mental force kept the ball in place and would stop it from moving while Fang Xiong used the suction force to move the Ki along.
Sweating buckets because of the concentration he was currently having to employ, Fang Xiong willed a small hole in the shell surrounding the Ki Ball before starting up the suction in front of the opening.
To Fang Xiong's immediate joy, a steady stream of yellow Ki was flowing from the ball to where he put the suction force. Knowing he was in business, Fang Xiong pulled the suction force along the way to his finger and led the Ki there.
It took little time, to Fang Xiong's joy, before he had a steady stream of Ki constantly heading to his finger. Now all he had to do was push it out of his finger and into the blood.
Luckily, it was much easier than actually controlling the Ki itself. All he had to do this time was will it to exit the tip of his finger and it did before slowly wafting into the blood and infusing itself with it.
Fang Xiong groggily opened his eyes, surprised by the exhaustion he was feeling. Master Long simply threw a pill into his mouth without him even having time to vocalize his exhaustion.
The pill turned into liquid and feel down his throat before hitting his stomach. Fang Xiong flinched, thinking this pill would be like the one from before but instead of a raging energy coming from his stomach, a calm energy raced all the way up to Fang Xiong's Dantian and then to his head, seeming to refill the energy in both of them.
Fang Xiong instantly felt better and more energetic.
"Okay, now all we have to do is pour this into the affinity page. Well, good luck, Xiong'er," Master Long slapped him on the shoulder before picking up the bowl and pouring its contents onto the shimmering page.
As soon as the blood hit the paper, it let out a near blinding ray of gold and black light as it slowly floated into the air while the pages flicked back and forth with incredible speed.
Fang Xiong tried to jump backward but a strong hand kept him still, "Don't worry, Xiong'er, this is meant to happen," hearing his Master's calm voice, Fang Xiong stayed still and just looked through squinted eyes at the shiny book floating in front of him.
As time passed by, Fang Xiong noticed that the pages were getting slower and slower at flicking back and forth and it was also flicking between the same pages each time.
A minute passed and it was flicking between two specific pages before it suddenly stopped on one page and fell onto Fang Xiong's lap. Master Long quickly looked intently at Fang Xiong and Fang Xiong looked at his Master, "What page is it, Xiong'er? Go on, look!" the excitement in his Master's voice seemed like he was the one who was awakening and not Fang Xiong.
Slowly, Fang Xiong looked at the big bold words on the page he had the affinity with.
Primate Affinity
Fang Xiong, not being the most well-learned boy looked up at his Master and spoke, "Uhh, Old man, it just says Primate Affinity at the top of the page," Fang Xiong's voice seemed completely lost as he looked at his Master for answers.
The Master in question had his mouth wide open and seemed to have seen some kind of ghost if his pale expression was anything to go off of, "You're saying it says Primate Affinity on your page?" Fang Xiong nodded hesitant and nervous about whether he'd awoken something good or trash-like.
Master Long stood up and pulled Fang Xiong into a crushing bear hug, "HAHAHAH! My disciple awoke an umbrella Affinity!" Master Long carried on laughing boisterously for a few more minutes after that before he stopped laughing and finally stopped crushing Fang Xiong.
Taking in massive gulps of air, Fang Xiong glared at his Master, "What's an umbrella Affinity, I thought I said Primate Affinity, and why's it worth nearly breaking me with a hug?" he spat this out in between breaths but his slight anger came through nonetheless.
Hearing his disciple, Master Long started laughing again before answering the question, "You did awaken Primate Affinity but that gives you access to a few Animals, so it's termed as an umbrella Affinity as it covers a few things."
Fang Xiong felt enlightened and also a little embarrassed but he didn't let that get to him and neither did his Master as he quickly started interrogating the boy, "Quickly, look underneath the title of the page, it should tell you the animals you have the affinity with."
Fang Xiong did as he was told and looked before reciting what he saw to his Master, "Monkey, Gorilla, Chimpanzee, and Human," Master Long seemed to be figuring it all out as he waited for a bit before replying.
"They are a good combination...You'll find yourself with quite a lot of strength and endurance after practicing the Martial Arts on that page," Master Long remarked this with a laugh before he continued speaking, "Well, I'm going to let you get on with looking at the few pages you'll have in the book, so we'll have a training session tomorrow morning. See you at dinner, Xiong'er," And with that, he was gone.
Fang Xiong didn't mind, however, as he really did need to get to looking at the pages he had.

8 104Savage Hunters
Giant monsters roam the land Civilization is frozen in a savage age. For the beast slayer Alden, power and survival are one and the same. The ancient evil that once ravaged his village and murdered his ancestors has returned. At the same time, politics hurls Alden and his crew into gladiator pit battles for control of the throne. When Alden takes possession of a cursed sword promising untold power, the hunter is determined to save his people by slaying every giant monster standing between him and the throne. But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
8 154Right as Rage
Only 15 years have passed since the miscreant god, Villi, stole magic from the gods and gave it to mortals. In response the mortals seem to be doing their best to squander this gift. The Kingdom of Abrune regulates it, the church of the Sacred Hierarchies outright condemns it, but one 'wildman' from across the sea begins his journey after being cursed by it. Vakdragnar's curse manifests when he loses his temper. It has driven everyone he’s ever cared about away from him. Out of options and money, he travels to the city of Tirough and quickly finds himself on the wrong side of the law. He is persecuted despite his intentions to do good. How can you stand against evil if everyone you’re trying to protect thinks you’re the villain? And if this curse is truly a part of him now, what if they’re right? **************************************************************************************************** Right as Rage is a story I’ve been excited to write for some time now. I hope everyone is as excited to read it. This story is going to be told over several arcs, with each arc containing 7-12 chapters, and an interlude or two each. I plan on submitting new chapters once a week on Tuesday evenings.
