《A Hand-Woven Universe》100. Experiencing Ardglass

Hundreds of incorporeal threads floated around Noone shifting with him as he walked with the group. By this time it was mid-morning and there was a whole days' worth of light left.
"Tobias. Would you come with me, so we can get you fixed up? We can reconvene tonight, I would like to hear more about what happened and your plans moving forward." Jakobson's voice clearly reached Feylin's and Sarah's ears. Glancing back, he gave them a reassuring smile.
Jakobson knew the potential of these two before they left on this assignment. While he was of course worried, he could clearly see how much the two had improved over the last year. The way they carried themselves as they walked through Ardglass was enough for someone as experienced as him to see how much they had grown.
Feylin had grown in maturity over the last year, and Sarah seemed to have become more comfortable with herself. "Perhaps," Jakobson thought, "getting her around other people was the best thing for her."
Tobias and Jakobson left the group and headed towards a chamber carved within the hillside. After exchanging a few goodbye's, the rest of the clergymen left them alone, each having work to complete for the day.
"So. What do you think Noone?" Raelith turned on her heel, startling Noone out of his own thoughts. Everyone looked at him to see how he would respond.
"Mm, about the town you mean?" Noone's mind had been focused on analyzing the forces suppressing him, so he was truly unprepared to answer. "Well. It's overwhelming. I have never been around anything like it…" His grey eyes were steady as he thought about Tapestry. "I honestly can't believe this is just a border town."
Rae bit her lip as she tried to consider this from Noone's perspective. Of course he would be overwhelmed, this little town was the size of Noone's entire home. For the majority of his life, Noone believed that Tapestry was all that was left of an inhabitable world… she shook her head.
"Well. Let's get you accustomed to it then." She smiled. At some point she had decided to show Noone the ropes to surviving. She wasn't sure why or when she made this decision but… she had a strange feeling Noone was special. Thus, wouldn't it be a crime to not provide at least some guidance? Eventually he would take off running on his own.

"Sarah, Feylin, you can come with us if you want? I am going to take Noone into town to get him some clothes and basic supplies." Rae looked at the two acolytes, both were taken in by the atmosphere of the temple they had grown up in.
"If it's okay Raelith I would like to stay here and do some studying and prayer. This is my first time being home after leaving the temple for so long… I feel like as long as I focus, I might be able to advance under this setting." Feylin spoke first, expressing his desire. Sarah looked at him and then nodded to Rae, she felt similarly.
Rae looked at their eyes, deeply considering the energy she saw within them. Both of them were extremely close into advancing from acolytes into full clerics. They will be at the lowest rung on Life Clerics then, able to use more miracles and gaining strength and combat ability. Raelith remembered her advancement fondly.
Sally looked on in approval. She was prepared to help them with their advancements in any way she could. Having them level into clerics before leaving again would undoubtedly be helpful on the next step of their journey. The only problem was… Sarah.
She would have to talk with Tobias about it when he gets back.
"Alright Rae. You go with Noone. I will stay here with these two and replace my miracles while I am at it. When you return, I will let you know if I need you to take up any that I don't have room for." Sally's even voice left no room for argument, not that Rae had any problems with what she said.
Sally was left in charge of most of the logistical planning. Raelith was strongest when it came to combat, and Tobias was expected to lead. Thus, Sally filled in the gap and took care of most everything that needed to be completed in between. She was literally the glue that held all the pieces together.
Clerics and Paladins can only change the miracles they perform at a temple or church. When away from a temple, they were only able to restore uses after resting.

So, if a cleric had five spells allotted to them, they could choose which five miracles they wanted while praying in a temple. Then they would only be able to use those five spells until they replaced them at a temple.
For acolytes, the number of miracles they could perform were two. The condition for being advanced to a cleric or paladin was a mixture of battle prowess, experience, and being able to use three spells. From there - your level was decided based on merit and the maximum number of miracles you could use at a time.
The exception were things called "cantrips." Cantrips were abilities that anyone with any magic or spiritual proficiency could perform at any time, with very few stipulations. Most cantrips were extremely weak because of this. However, they could be helpful for minor tasks.
Sarah and Feylin knew more of what they spoke of than Noone did, however he was able to put most the pieces together himself.
"Alright Noone, let’s go. I will show you how to survive in society." Raelith had a cheery grin, her steps carried her far as her long legs joyfully bounded to the exit. Noone couldn't help but smile at her energy. He gave a quick wave to Sally, Sarah and Feylin and then followed Rae.
As he stepped through the stone archway, Noone's body and vision was immediately unshackled, expanding his sight to the three meters it had been before. He couldn't help but glance back into the temple. There was much about this world he didn't understand.
"So Noone. First I'm going to have to teach you about currency." Raelith stood right next to Noone, only a few inches shorter than himself.
He was a solid 6'5'' and she was 6'2''. Together they were able to look clear over the heads of most the people in town. The exceptions were a few especially tall humans like Tobias or some of the rare elves which would enter Noone's sight now and then. Like Rae, all of them were equally tall and lithe.
"Those are elves’ too, correct? With the pointed ears and slimmer figures?" Noone asked discretely as they cut through the crowd, Noone followed Rae assuming she knew where she was going.
"Hmm." She followed Noone's gaze to see a wood elf entering an inn. "Well. Yes."
"Do you not have any desire to go talk to them? Someone from the same race as you?" Noone found Raelith's disregard slightly odd. Wouldn't you be excited to see someone of your own race?
"Well… it's not the same as you might think Noone. In the world there are millions upon millions of various minor races of elves scattered throughout the land. Not nearly as many as the humans which live here, but enough that seeing them is not very special." She thought about her words, trying to figure out a way to explain it that Noone might understand.
"Besides, within the various races of 'elves' there's a little contention between each." She gave off a lighthearted laugh, but Noone could tell there was a lot more to this than she was letting on. "Ultimately, you will come to learn of it on your own. For now, just stay observant."
Noone nodded his head. He couldn't help but analyze every person he saw. While some people talked with each other, for the most part everyone went their own ways, busying themselves with their own business. Noone found their constant rush odd. Why did none of them have the time to exchange hellos with each other unless it was to buy something?
"Maybe this is what it was like in Tapestry?" Noone thought. "And I just never noticed? Perhaps every time I thought they were having silent conversations around me, they were really just going about their own ways?"
Noone couldn't help but shake his head. No, the people of Tapestry were much more interwoven than these people. Right?

What not to expect: Harem, RPG system, regular releases. I'll try to finish the story to the end but can't really promise anything. Chapters will be released when I have the time to write them which I don't have much of.
