Mingwei went out and had himself a big hearty meal. Thanks to the stipends provided by the Longbow Sect, he’d be able to afford most of the restaurants and eateries in their small town, and he didn’t hesitate to eat something good.
He wasted 15 pills, so he was both sad, and hungry. Good food was a cure to both.
Redmaw, being close to the mountains and the forests, are thus famous for a few dishes local to the area. Such as the Nighttrip Fried Black Mushrooms, often eaten with a bit of chilli and garlic, or the Redthorn Roseleaf, a leafy vegetable often stir-fried with a healthy dose of Greenluck Liver or just regular lard.
Back home, nobody made foods with any kind of Qi-ingredients. Simply because it’s so rare and expensive. This world, Greenduck Liver’s used for seasoning.
“Damn this is good.” Mingwei munched on the food happily. He ate so much, and just as he was about to pay.
“Ah, young brother of the Longbow Sect.” A voice asked. “I can’t help but notice your unsightly behavior back there.”
Mingwei frowned, was his eating so bad. So he politely turned and bowed. He didn’t recognise who this man was, but it was not time to argue. “Ah, my apologies elder brother, I’m unfortunately extremely famished from a period of cultivation, and as such had a larger than normal appetite to satisfy.”
The voice was stunned. “Ah. Yes. It’s quite... unsightly.”
“Indeed. My apologies again, elder brother. I had not meant to be seen eating like a hungry wolf outside, but my hunger has been insatiable.” Mingwei just went for the full-on self-deprecating mode.
“Hmph. Watch yourself.”
“Certainly, elder brother. Thank you for your advise. I shall not forget it.”
The man didn’t linger and left quickly. One of his attendants just smiled, knowingly. Sometimes the best way to pacify arrogant young masters is just to overdo the self-deprecating and they would be annoyed, but not enough to do anything.

Now that Mingwei had his fill of good food, he went home. Food in this world was better, really. The fact that Greenduck Liver was used in cooking made everything taste better. It’s like fried garlic with everything. Just makes everything more fragrant and tasteful.
Back in the Sect, another disciple saw him. “You there. Brother Mingwei.”
Mingwei nodded and bowed. “Ah, greetings, elder brother.”
“Do you know how to process a 4-star Blackriver Crocodile? The elders and inner disciples are all too busy.” The disciple looked like a mid 3-star outer disciple like Mingwei.
“Uh...” Mingwei was familiar with that, but he didn’t have the equipment for it. He had many questions, like, why was there an unprocessed carcass of a Blackriver Crocodile? How did it get here?
“Never mind.” The outer disciple left. So, Mingwei went back to his workshop, and went back to work. He wasn’t going to fail the remaining Greenduck Liver Pills.

The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
