《Construct Your Fate》Side Story: Colt's Project

Walking up to the plot of land his mother picked out, Colt begins by preparing the earth. Mentally tracing the land he wants to target, he holds out a hand above it.

“Realm of Spring: Bountiful Land!”

The soil glows green for a moment as the spell takes effect. Immediately, the grass on the plot begins to grow at a visible pace. With a bit of nature magick coaxing, Colt replants the grass in a patch of dirt, leaving the land clear of any plants.

Walking into the center of the plot, Colt takes a clipping from an evergleam fir and plants it into the soft, fertile soil.

The moment Colt plants the sapling into the ground, more needles start to form and branches extend. With mental focus, Colt uses his Floramancy to guide the growth of the sapling.

Feeding off of his Wild Magick, the sapling extends a deep, expansive root network into the soil.

The mental aspect of this part requires heavy focus by Colt as he guides each individual root into a system that will properly absorb water groundwater and firmly hold the earth in place.

After about an hour of sitting with his hands on the soil, the root system is fleshed out. Colt takes a mana potion out of his bag of holding, drinking several doses of the minty brew to restore his Wild Magick.

The sapling hasn’t grown in height much at this point, so Colt begins to use Floramancy to cause rampant growth within the body of the sapling. The effect is instantaneous as the trunk grows outward rapidly.

Snaps and pops indicate constantly reforming layers of the tree. The entire time this body is building, Colt chugs more and more mana potions to restore his resources. This amount of mass supplementation becomes extremely taxing quickly.

Within two hours, the tree is standing tall and wide, perfectly prepared for creating a house. Looking up at it, he places a hand on the bark. The tree expands outward, losing height as it does.

With a cost reduction bonus from his Wild Magick, the shaping of the tree is able to match his regen, removing the need for mana potions past this point provided he keeps to an appropriate speed.

Excess use of mana potions can begin to cause a headache, so Colt avoids that.

Taking out a floorplan, Colt estimates room sizes for the first floor of the two-story home. The first floor will have a different floorplan, but the second story will follow a similar plan to his home as his mother likes the setup.

The trunk of the tree squares out, flattening into the desired shape for the flooring. With more manipulation of the wood, bark and cambium lift off the floor, exposing smooth sapwood.

Colt creates small ridges in the wood to indicate where all the walls of this house will be. Hollowing out the insides, he fills them with a flaxen compound Pasivier showed him to act as insulation.

First is the entrance room to the house leading from the front door. Colt brings the walls up around this room, continuing to fill the inner walls with insulation as he does.

The entrance room is simply a small mudroom to store shoes and the like in before entering the main house. Leaving space for a door, Colt finishes up the room and seals off the ceiling at an appropriate height.

The main difference between this house and Colt’s is that the staircase is centralized within the home, creating a circular room system rather than the open air style of home that his house is.

With further use of his Wild Magick, Colt brings up walls to the left and right of the entrance room, sealing up what will be the living room and a specially requested room respectively. Walking through these rooms, he enters into a larger space that will be the kitchen.

In here, he steps over the unfinished wall and uses his Geokinesis to bring over some marble rocks he pulled up from the earth. With careful precision, he shifts the rock apart into individual tiles.

Floating the tiles into place, he seals them with a natural grout, hardening them with more magick. Along the length of the room, he brings up more of the wood into shapes to create counter space as well as cupboards.

With carefully selected granite, Colt shapes the stone into countertops, only the best for his mother. The smooth, magickally polished gray and white stone gleams in the mid-morning light.

Bringing up more of the pale fir wood, he seals up the walls, filling them with more insulation as he does. Completing the ceiling as well, branches reach out and generate their needles, which begin to coat themselves in light crystals, the natural trait of the evergleam fir.

Walking out through the other side of the house, Colt begins to shape the dining room. He brings up the walls around this room, repeating the processes of previous rooms. The branches extend down and the generated crystal light casts white hues across the room.

Forming a table and chairs out of the floor becomes more taxing as Colt has to generate excess mass once more. With a quick snip of Wild Magick, the wood detaches from the main body of the house.

Giving himself a moment to regenerate Wild Magick with Pranic Breathing, Colt walks calmly into the room his mom was adamant about having in her home.

Having saved a large amount of space for it, Colt layers smooth granite across the floor, leaving the walls unadorned. The entire bottom floor of the house has high ceilings specifically to accommodate the plans for this room.

Finishing the walls of this room as well, Colt looks at the end result. A dojo. His mother, a spearwoman now, requested to have a dojo in her home as she has found a penchant for training others in the way of the spear.

Having left space for windows in each of the rooms, Colt begins the arduous process of generating the glass for them. Using fine-tuned Geokinesis, Colt slowly forms the crystalline structures of glass into the size and shape he needs.

A while later, he’s done and feeling quite drained.

Fortunately, at this point, Colt is familiar enough with the process that he can supplement some of the cost by maintaining Pranic Breathing while generating the panes of glass.

Fitting them into the walls of each room, the bottom floor is almost complete. Lastly, Colt creates a hallway leading from the entrance to the kitchen, creating a small space for a half-bath on the bottom floor just behind the stairs.

Then he begins the process of generating stairs to the next floor. Pulling from existing mass within the tree, it flattens down once more in the center, giving him more living wood to work with.

Carefully measuring each step as he goes, Colt shapes up the staircase leading to the second floor. Within an hour, he finishes and wipes sweat from his brow. The level of exertion this takes can be tiring.

Taking a small break, Colt takes out a sandwich be packed for himself from his bag. It’s some kind of pig monster meat between Construct Shop bread and cheese. He frowns at the flavor.

“Why am I even eating this… I eat mana now and this doesn’t even taste good. Construct food just doesn’t taste right…”

Storing away the failed sandwich after only a single bite, Colt sighs and begins work once more.

The second floor already has the flooring done due to smart ceiling work on Colt’s part. He does increase the thickness of the wood though, just in case.

Off to his left from the stairs, Colt creates what will be his mom’s master bathroom. Lining the floor with marble tiles similar to what he did in the kitchen, he builds a sink and toilet out of the same.

Replicating how he created the waterfall shower from Ilmarinen’s house once more, he shapes granite into a bath and creates the flattened spout that will cascade water down. Mentally apologizing to Lucas, he considers how tough the enchantments for this might be.

Shrugging, he moves on to create the master bedroom. Bringing up the walls with Floramancy, he makes this room bigger than the bedroom in his house as there’s no staircase in the way. The bathroom is similarly somewhat bigger.

After finishing the master bedroom, he creates another smaller bathroom for the general public to use. Following advice from Pasivier, he creates a storage tank that Lucas can enchant to properly dispose of waste.

Wondering if that just means teleporting the waste somewhere else, Colt shrugs and figures it will be Lucas’ problem to figure out.

Creating the guest bedroom next to the bathroom, Colt shapes the wood once more, leaving spaces in the wall for windows. The top floor of this house will be smaller than his own, as his mom requested a wraparound balcony.

Stepping out from behind the stairs, Colt reshapes the wood of the walls to accommodate for large windows, mentally cursing himself for accepting a floorplan that will require this much glass.

Creating space for a door, he walks through the empty doorway. Placing his hand on the floor of what will be the balcony, he creates the smallest slant to make sure no water will build up on this open-air spot.

Moving on to create railings for this balcony, he brings the wood into flat bars across the bottom and top, making thicker bars reach from the bottom and top to create the basic shape. In the end, the railing extends around the whole balcony.

Touching the corner of the balcony, he creates a support bar that he will attach the roof to.

Moving to do just that, his Wild Magick pool drops once again as he shapes the roof. Flattening out two halves, he bends them lengthwise to the shape of the house, creating a slanted roof. Sealing up any remaining holes, he sighs as he returns to the process of creating glass.

The last vestiges of light are in the sky as he watches the sunset while placing the glass to line the walls looking out to the balcony from his mother’s new home.

With all of the windows complete, the last step is creating doors. Taking some hinges he pilfered from a hardware store he found in the distance from Portland, he screws them into every doorframe of the house one by one.

Fortunately, Metallomancy makes for a great screwdriver. Measuring out the size he needs, he causes more wood to rise from the floor, replacing that mass with his Wild Magick once more.

Once he’s done that, he sets the door into the frame and takes out knobs to attach to fit into the door. Completing that, he finally reaches the balcony door, which will be the most intricate.

Creating just a wooden frame, he fits it into the doorframe he created leading out to the balcony. Taking a piece of glass, he fits it into the doorway. This will allow for the most light to come into the room with no door blocking the balcony view.

Slumping his shoulders, Colt sighs once more. “Finally done… that was exhausting… and I still have Adreanell, Becky, and Cassandra’s houses to go…”

Remembering that he gets to head home now and see Lucas, Colt perks up instantly. Heading home for the night, he excites himself with plans for dinner to make for everyone.

Walking in, everyone greets him and Colt gives his mom a knowing smile, hugs her, and tells her that the house is complete aside from the buoyoberry bed which he’ll create for her tomorrow.

Walking through the kitchen, he nearly walks into Lucas who was just about to walk through the door with a huge grin on his face.

Lucas has a strong natural essence to him, indicating that he’s been doing alchemy all day.

After talking and telling each other about their days, Colt settles into making dinner for everyone before going to sleep for the night, proud of a hard day’s work as well as some level ups in his Talents.
