《Just a Rock》Chapter 60: Nosejob

Later that same day, a stranger appeared, an actual human this time not some strange way of referring to a new rock or object. This human stopped to camp in this strangely popular place to shack up for the night and took note of the tools and sculpture. They picked them up and drilled a hole where the nose had chipped off and then looked around the ground. They managed to find the chipped off nose by the two rocks but threw it away after one look then grabbed the better half of the rock.

This man was a true sculpting expert unlike the amateur former painter and gave the rock a structural makeover. Soon the rock went from a half oval to a nose shape with a cylinder jutting out its back, perfectly sized to fit into the drilled hole. Like that the face of the sculpture had been repaired using the rock as a spare part. Could it even be called the rock anymore. Perhaps we were too quick in deciding which half to choose. The lesser half is now the better half, no was the true rock from the very get go.

Rather than finishing the sculpture, this man was satisfied in rectifying the nose and made camp for the night, leaving in the morning without a second glance back. A simple whim of his changed history forever, like a monk convincing the crown prince of a kingdom to disinherit himself to prevent a civil war with his younger brother. A force of true good, or perhaps the most insidious of evils. Whichever it was, more importantly was how the painter turned sculptor turned dancer would react to the nose being fixed. Would they return to their sculpting or was this doomed to be forever half done until it was eroded beyond recognition.

As soon as his figure passed out of sight, with a slight "Creak!" the nose flipped upside down. Turns out the hole was just a hair too large for the cylinder, allowing it to move around. Like that, the statue looked even worse than how it did with the nose chipped off. Mismatching colors and the wrong side up. Not even the fact that this nose was made from the rock could reconcile this travesty.

As for the former nose that had broken off, it landed in a spot where the sun shone on it just right to appear shiny. In response, a local raccoon picked it up and brought it home with it, never to be seen again.
