《The Voyager》Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 43: Combat

Jean looked around as she was in a zerg drop pod waiting to be tossed down to the planet below. A few seconds later the drop pod was thrown out of the leviathan and down to the surface below.

Normally a crash like this would turn the internal organs of any living thing into jelly, but the drop pod was designed to make those they carried survive. Tiny zerg organisms were within the drop pod to diffuse the impact. Jean learned about that when she smashed into a wall of soft jelly and was unharmed.

Wiping some unknown liquid off her face, she stood up and exited what was left of the drop pod.

A queen was outside the drop pod. She was one of the lower queens and lead the assault on the base.

“Jean.” She said with a deep voice. Her name was queen, but she had no characteristic of being female. She knew why Jean was here, still she made no effort to show Jean any respect. The girl had no rank among the swarm. Due to the mission the queen knew Jean was a zerg, but that didn’t earn Jean respect. “You should act quickly.” She urged.

Jean nodded and held her hands into fists. A few seconds later a layer of carapace emerged, replacing her skin. Her fingers turned to claws. Her eyes turned blue. Her suit was still on her, and the terran technology and the zerg body forming a strange sight. Jean painfully growled and walked slowly toward the protoss establishment.

The protoss saw the zerg approaching a distance away. The base was an outpost, and was held by a small group of protoss. They stood no chance, but the protoss warriors were willing to fight until the end, or rather until they were so injured that their emergency warping system had to kick in and bring them back to safety.

Technically the protoss forces could just abandon the settlement and warp away, but Artanis gave no such order, and the forces on the ground did no such thing. Sure, evacuating could save dozens, perhaps even hundreds of warriors, but it would also ruin the will inside the protoss. If they could flee once, then they could flee twice. Artanis knew if he gave that order then the zeoletry and sense of honor in his warriors’ heart would fade away. This sense of honor was what kept the survivors through the pain of losing their home and kept them strong against enemies from all sides.

If the warriors lose their hearts, then all hope of the Daeleem would be gone.

The templar leading the defenses tried his best. An immortal was positioned in the back while 20 zealots lined up in the front as the templar knew very well the damage dealing unit should be well protected. 2 sentries stood behind the zealot wall and around the immortal. The high templar stood in front of the zealots. Two psionic blades were attached to his wrists. The fact that high templar chose to use psi power to fight didn’t mean they lost the ability to use psi blades. All templar started with being zealots. This high templar was no different. 2 photon cannons were on the side, standing tall.

They only had one enemy, and now this enemy was walking past the zerg that surrounded the outpost and walking toward them.

Jean glanced at the protoss formation and silently reached inside her body. A few seconds later two blades made up of strengthened bones replaced the claws Jean had. The girl knew very well she could use blades better than claws thanks to her experience with the plasma blade she had. After she had a handy weapon, Jean looked at the protoss in consideration.

“For Aiur!” The high templar screamed and bravely charged toward Jean. Unlike most terran commanders protoss commanders usually fought alongside their warriors. The zeolets followed as their body temporarily turned to energy form.

Jean tilted her head and dodged two shots from the photon cannon. This was something she couldn’t do with the computer chip. First of all the computer could barely respond quick enough. Second even if it did Jean’s body couldn’t move that quickly, but now with the zerg mutation Jean could easily do that, not that she needed to dodge. A third round hit her in the chest, but all it did was rip open Jean’s suit. The shot barely penetrated her chest carapace, and whatever damage it did was instantly healed. Next came the zealots.

Jean turned her right blade around just in time to block a blaring blue psi blade with her own bone blade. The psi blade, able to rip through metal with little effort, was halted by the peak of zerg technology. Jean used her left leg to support her body while kicking the zealot in the chest with her raised right ankle. The bump should be harmless, except Jean just mutated another bone blade along her calves beforehand for situations like this. The blade, powered by Jean’s mutated leg muscle, smashed through the plasma shield with pure strength and went deep inside the zealot. With his chest penetrated, the emergency warping system acted. However, Jean was never a merciful girl. She quickly slashed down with her right blade and decapitated the defenseless protoss before he could escape. As the protoss lost all life, his body faded into the air in a sea of sparkles.

The process seemed complicated, but it was hardly a second from Jean blocking the zeolet’s attack to Jean killing the zealot. Still the other 19 zealots and 1 templar were upon Jean.

Unfortunately the two sides weren’t on the same page. Jean’s blades, and even punches and kicks, could easily break through the defenses of the protoss while the psi blades could barely break through her carapace. Jean slashed horizontally and took out two 2 meters tall zealots with ease and kicked another protoss in the chest...

...

Jean kicked the 13th zealot in the chest and sent her onto her back a few meters away. The female zealot was warping away defenselessly, but before Jean could make the kill something hit her in the chest, hard. Jean felt a surge of burning sensation in her front and wisely moved a few steps back to deal with the impact. As she stabilized, Jean saw that her front carapace was ripped open. She groaned.

A zealot saw an opportunity and leaped at the ravaged girl, but Jean silently turned her right hand from blade to fingers and grabbed onto the zealot in the air. She penetrated him with her left blade and watched as his body faded away. Standing up, Jean’s body had completely mended.

The high templar saw how ineffective the immortal’s phase disruptor, and he knew his forces stood no chance. Their enemy was enhenced and held superior power. She wasn’t here to fight. She was here to play. Even the templar himself was unable to beat the girl, no matter how hard he tried. A terran would be scared and be in desperation, but a surge of anger clouded the high templar’s mind. The thought of the zerg using the honorable protoss warriors as a practice dummy was just too much.

He made a penetrating psionic roar and charged at Jean.
