《The Voyager》Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 41: Still tactics

The bridge of the leviathan was quiet. Only Jean and Kerrigan were there.

“Do you still have contact with your allies?” Kerrigan questioned. One of the reasons she needed Jean to help her was because Jean had many allies. These allies could be helpful in the war against Amon.

“Yes my queen. I have contact with executor Nyon of the tal’darim, commander Liam of Deadman’s port, and Arcturus Mengsk of the Terran Dominion.” Jean noticed Kerrigan’s face twisting for a bit when she mentioned Mengsk, but the queen concealed her anger. She was past the part where she would get emotional every time someone mentioned Mengsk.

“Impressive.” Kerrigan completemented. “How did you convince them? Mengsk is not a trusting one.”

“I made them a deal.” Jean replied. “Unfortunately we are allies, which means I can't give them orders.” Of course that was only half true. Liam was Jean’s underling and Nyon obeyed Jean’s AI. Mengsk might not be a friend, but Jean knew he would trust her in terms of fighting Amon. Still, if Kerrigan knew that her suspicion would only grow. Jean needed the swarm against Amon, not against herself.

Kerrigan thought about it as she slid her long claws down her cheek, making an ear piercing screech. “In that case, contact your person in the tal’darim. A conflict between the Golden Armada and the Death Fleet will distract the Daleem.”

“Very well, my queen.” Jean agreed.”Now, if there is nothing else…” Kerrigan waved her hand, and Jean exited the bridge.

Jean’s chamber was similar to Kerrigan’s chamber in that other zerg units didn’t need a place to stay and rest. Usually normal zerg units just burrowed underground when they were not needed. Technically neither Jean nor Kerrigan needed a place to rest, but as commanders they had the luxury of having some privacy.

Jean walked into her chamber and gave out a psionic order. Then, with no obvious response, she sat down on the purple creep with her legs crossed and closed her eyes. She wasn’t about to waste any fragment of time. It was efficient.

A few minutes later a few zerglings dragged in a functioning terran computer. Their claws were carefully curved to prevent them from damaging the computer. As an ex terran Kerrigan had some captured terran gadgets on her ship. What happened to the former owners of the device was obvious, but that wasn’t Jean’s concern. She opened her eyes and started hacking into the computer device.

Of course, Jean had dozens of computer devices in her watch that could complete her task, but Jean knew very well Kerrigan had eyes and ears everywhere, and she wasn’t planning on showing her best card before one of her potential enemies. She had to put up an act.

The firewall stopped Jean for a few minutes as Jean lacked her usual computer chip, but the girl had something better. Her mind was enhanced by the psionic developments, which allowed her to think and act much faster. A few minutes later Jean was opening up a transmission to a certain tal’darim.

“Executor Nyon.” Jean said formerly and politely. the background was modified to make it look like she was on her ship.

“Commander Turner.” Nyon replied with a typical tal’darim smirk. He showed few respect. “You better have something important to say. I am...occupied.”

“I need you to start a war between the Death Fleet and the Golden Armada.” Jean said openly.

“I am at war with the Golden Armada.” Nyon replied casually.

“That’s not what I mean.” Jean replied. “I need you to spark a total war between the tal’darim and the daleem.”

“Hmmmm…” Nyon hummed slowly. “What can I get?” He asked, not even pretending. “The Golden Armada is not an easy foe.”

“Defeating the Golden Armada will make you the hero of your world. Think of what you can do with that reputation.” Jean lured. “You can be the Highlord.”

“...I will see what I can do.” Nyon thought about the advantages and disadvantages for a while. “Anything else?”

“No.” Nyon turned off the comm without any politeness.

Meanwhile, in Kerrigan’s chamber, the queen of blades opened her eyes in satisfaction. She had been connecting to the zerglings that brought Jean the computer. Either accidently or planned Jean never ordered the zerglings to depart. Through the zerglings Kerrigan saw the conversation between Jean and Nyon. The girl seemed to be telling the truth. Good.

Meanwhile, across the sector, a small tal’darim fleet was in the space. It contained one carrier and three destroyers. It wasn’t invincible, but nor was it insignificant.

“How did I do?” Nyon turned off the communication and turned to a terran device he put on a cabin. He was the only one in the bridge. The other tal’darim units were either on other ships or in the back of the carrier.

“Not bad.” The device shined and constructed the hologram of a girl with blonde hair and wearing a uniform.

“Why is she doing this? Why bother? I don’t need a reason to strike the Daleem.” Nyon asked curiously. He put up the act because Assistant told him to do so, and he trusted the Assistant...for now. The device had never betrayed him. Instead, it had helped him accomplish the impossible. He was merely curious.

“The Golden Armada is too powerful for your fraction to take down along. The Death Fleet might be able to win, but that would defeat the purpose.” Assistant explained. “You can only be the hero in your people’s mind if you win an impossible battle.”

“Defeating a fleet with another fleet is not impressive. Defeating a fleet with a few ships is a miracle, but I need the act to make that happen. I promised to make you to Highlord of the tal’darim, and in order to do that you need to be seen as a hero and a leader. Plus, the Golden Armada is a force that must be defeated.”

Nyon frowned in awe. Now that Assistant explained everything he started to feel bad for Ma’lash, but just a bit. If...no, when he returned to Slayn with a victory against the Golden Armada with a few ships, his people will value him even stronger than Ma’lash. Even Ma’lash never accomplished such a crushing victory. Countless will swear their allegience for him in the duel. His own forces will grow after the victory. He can crush Ma’lash.

He didn’t even doubt whether or not he could win this war. He trusted the Assistant. In fact, he relied on the Assistant. Lucky for him Jean needed a puppet in the Death Fleet, or else Nyon’s body would be floating in a container in Jean’s watch. The last person that trusted Jean without any question got killed in his own ship.
