《The Voyager》Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 35: A deal with Kerrigan

Sarah Kerrigan, the infamous queen of blades.

It was ironic how the one that butchered billions of innocent turned out to be the sole path to salvation, but Jean wasn’t really into ironies. When Jean had a problem she looked for and carried out solutions.

What happens when you needed help from someone? You make a deal with them.

That was exactly what Jean did.

The meeting was set on a neutral planet with no affiliation with any power. Jean sent the queen of blades the coordinates and a request to meet at a given time.

Now Jean was standing in the bridge of the Hyperion, looking down on the pale planet, computing how she could convince a queen to aid her.

An alert popped, and the Hyperion AI produced a warning. “Commander, unidentified ship warping in.” Jean turned to the space the Hyperion plotted out.

A few seconds later a zerg leviathan exited warp space. Leviathans were basically the zerg version of a battlecruisers and carriers. It had tentacles extending off its sides acting as its main weapons. These tentacles seemed small in comparison to the giant living spaceship, but in reality they were thick enough to penetrate layers of terran plating. Thousands of drop pods were attached to its bottom, allowing it to transport some of the countless zerg units within onto ground level when needed. Ranging for kilometers long, the Leviathan could withstand waves of punishment and still be in combat state. Hatcheries within the beast extracted minerals from storage and could hatch units within the ship. Jean had a feeling just this Leviathan could take down half the Dominion fleet. No wonder even Amon desired the power of the swarm.

“Open up a transmission.” Jean wasn’t moved by the living ship hundreds of times larger than her own cruiser. If things went well she wouldn’t need to fight the Leviathan.

But things didn’t.

Suddenly the Leviathan moved forward past the safety range. Its speed was astonishing for its size. Usually larger things were slower, but in this case the leviathan moved like it was on steroids. The beast closed onto the Hyperion, and two of its tentacles striked forward and grabbed onto the battlecruiser.

“Commander, we have been held in place. Retaliation is initiating.” The Hyperion urged.

“Command override. Make no move.” Jean ordered cruelly. She was willing to sacrifice one battlecruiser to get into a conversation with Kerrigan. The ship AI obeyed even though it knew what the order meant. AIs were programmed to obey, and the Hyperion obeyed.

The Leviathan’s tentacles ripped open the Hyperion’s side plating and pulled the ship right next to the Leviathan until the metal armor of the battlecruiser was touching the carapace of the Leviathan. Zerg units started to pour into the battlecruiser through the breach.

“Commander, if we don’t do something we will be left defenseless. All the Warden forces are on the Beetle.” The Hyperion said again as Jean saw through the security camera that the zerg were overrunning the rest of the ship except for the bridge, which was protected by metal doors. Before Jean came here she transferred all the infrastructure and units onto the Beetle to minimize the losses in case something like this happened.

“Follow orders.” Jean was unmoved.

Suddenly, on a security camera that faced the breach, Jean saw a certain figure. Her eyes lit up, not because she had a kink for naked woman with zerg platings and hair but because the figure was exactly who she came to talk with.

But Sarah Kerrigan didn’t feel the same way. She glanced into the camera. Her eyes glaring with uncontrolled anger. Jean suddenly felt her neck being tightened and she couldn’t breath. She made a signal, and the camera closed off, and the life threatening feeling disappeared. Still, she was a stranded girl with the number one killer in the sector on her tail.

The zerg units were stirred up by their leader’s anger, and they simultaneously growled into the ceiling and doubled their efficiency.

The zerglings before the gate started hacking on the metal door with their claws and teeths. A few seconds later they were past the gate and pouring into the bridge. Jean silently tapped her watch, and her clothes were transformed to a layer of modified armor. Still she made no effort to fight the zerg, and the zerg made no effort to fight her. They merely surrounded her to keep her in place for their leader.

The queen of blades entered the bridge with a confidence and a strength few others in the galaxy could. She stared at Jean menacingly, but Jean merely stared back as if the woman didn’t have the power to kill her instantly. The two were silent for a while.

“You killed Jim,” The man, the butcher, said with a sadness unlike her look. “and today you’ll pay the price.” The zerglings growled as if they would charge up any minute.

“You can kill me whenever you want,” Jean said slowly. “but for now we have a common enemy. Someone we must work together to even have a chance of winning. Amon.” She said, full of logic. “You can do whatever to me, but only after Amon is dead.” When Amon was dead she would be gone from this universe. Even with the might of Kerrigan she couldn’t travel through dimensions.

Kerrigan smirked with a sense of pride. “I don’t need you to help me. I will kill you and then kill Amon.”

Jean grinned wickedly. “Hardly. If you kill me….” She made a gesture. “you’ll have to survive the explosion of 5 tactical nukes.”

Kerrigan used her psi energy to do a scan and sensed 5 nukes in the hanger of The Hyperion. Undoubtedly they were programmed to detonate the second Jean died. Even she couldn’t survive five nukes this close.

The queen growled. The sight of Jean being so in control reminded her of someone she knew. Arcturus Mengsk was also this in control when he talked to her. This thought burned away all her logic. The queen moved a few steps forward and digged her sharp wing edges into Jean’s shoulder blades and held her in the air. The modified armor did nothing against the peak of zerg mutation. “I don’t take threats.” She hissed, and her wings turned in Jean’s wound, causing a puddle of fresh blood to form on the metal ground. She searched Jean’s face for any expression of pain or fear, but there wasn’t any. All she saw was infinite coldness and logic.

“I have connections, connections that can help our cause.” Jean wasn’t begging for mercy or bargining for a chance of survival. Instead, she was merely stating a simply fact. “If I live, I can bring the tal’darim, the mercenaries, and the Dominion to our side. With your swarm among us, Amon will be by himself. We can defeat Amon.” She didn’t even falter as her face turned pale from the loss of blood. As soon as she was pinned down her mental chip blocked all pain signals sent to her brain.

Kerrigan hissed. Her love for Raynor demanded her to execute the girl in the slowest and most painful way possible, but her logic told her to be patient. The threat of Amon was real, and killing Jean now would do more harm than good. The wisest choice would be joining her for now and kill her when Amon was done….but she really wanted to avenge Jim. Finally, she pulled her wings back and slammed Jean on the ground. “What do you know about Amon?” She asked.

“I know how to defeat him, and I am taking countermeasures now.” Jean struggled to stand up. Even though her pain signals were cut off the physical damage she received was devastating. She was bleeding out, and two big holes in her shoulder blade wasn’t exactly helpful to her movement. Kerrigan smirked as Jean struggled. “For instance, I know one day he will take over the Golden Armada. Of course, he had other plans, but I’ve taken care of those. With you on our side the Golden Armada will be the only problem.”

Kerrigan frowned. The Golden Armada was a tough enemy, even for the swarm. Sometimes under a certain amount of firepower number simply didn’t matter. “How?” She asked. “Artanis is a fool, but he is not an agent of Amon.”

“Through the khala.” Jean answered concisely as she realized getting up was impossible and decided to sit down instead. “Unfortunately we don’t have enough proof to bring the protoss to our side, which means the Golden Armada must be disabled by force.”

“How?”

“Well,” Jean motioned for the zerg units around. “you can start with sending your pawns off my ship.”
