《The Voyager》Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 23: The Betrayal

The route to the Hyperion was nice and simple. A transport brought Jean to the Hyperion. She entered the ship without any trouble.
When Jean entered the bridge, Raynor, Horner, and Tychus looked up at the fully armed girl in surprise. “What’s wrong?” Raynor asked, confused but still trusting. “Is there enemies approaching?”
Jean was expressionless. She gave no answer, but instead grabbed two gauss rifles from her watch and fired upon the the Raider crew members in the bridge. The unsuspecting men and women fell on the ground with bloody holes on their heads and hearts. All of them were killed instantly. Jean’s computer chip calculated the angle of firing so all the bullets would hit the critical areas of the crew members.
Raynor’s battle instinct saved his life as he subconsciously dodged to the right as soon as the weapons were drawn and evaded a gauss round. His young captain, however, had no such luck as captain Matthew Horner fell on the ground with a hole in his skull. His eyes were wide open in disbelief. He was a loyal soldier dedicated to fighting for the freedom of the people, but he died as insignificant as any Dominion soldier. Jean didn’t even bat an eye. To her, the captain that introduced her to Raynor and saved her life many times was just like any other enemy she faced. He might as well be a zergling. All she knew was he had to die. That’s it.
When Raynor stood back up, his eyes were filled with anger of the betrayal. He quickly scanned the surrounding, and saw all but two crew members were dead. Jean returned the two emptied gauss rifles to her belt. For a moment Raynor was so angry that he lost whatever logic he had. The man walked out into the open and grabbed the pistol from his belt. Behind him, Tychus touched the dent on his armor, feeling lucky. The modified armor saved his life.
“Why? Jean!! What have you done?” Raynor yelled at Jean just like he once yelled to the queen of blades. What angered him more was how the girl, the butcher, ignored him. “Answer me you bitch!!” He continued and raised his pistol at Jean to fire.
Jean was brought back by the warning of her computer chip. For the past few seconds she had been occupied with taking care of the rest of the Raiders. She connected to the Warden system and took over command via a backdoor she installed when she first designed the program. She had been planning for this moment from the very start. As soon as she was in control, Jean made a serious of orders.

In the armory, all of the mechanical units suddenly activated at once. Their AIs went online. Unfortunately for the Raiders, they were programmed with a hidden code to obey Jean’s every command. Chief engineer Rory Swann just finished repairing a goliath and was admiring his work when the weapon system of the unit suddenly went online. The engineer’s eyes widened and he wanted to say something, perhaps a warning, but his words were cut off by the sound of autocannons firing...
In the hallway marines and marauders heard the gunshots. These elite and experienced soldiers rushed into their armors. It was usually the right call as they were only combatants in their suits. Unfortunately the once trusted Warden system that saved the lives of countless Raiders was no longer on their side.
As soon as the units got into their suits their Warden system went online and, without any warning, injected the men and women with all the stimpack available. The human body couldn’t take that many stimulants, and a few seconds later all the men and women were dead with blood running from their noses and mouths. The stimulants destroyed their hearts. The suits opened up and dropped the bodies out before going back into seemingly normal marines and marauders. The only thing was they didn’t have a Raider inside. Jean had spent quite a while to secretly download AIs into every piece of armor so they could do her bidding even if the people inside were gone. These units marched through the ship, eliminating any Raider that they came across.
The whole process from the units getting into their armors to the armors patrolling the ship merely took several seconds, but the majority of the Raiders were gone. The others were massacred with extreme efficiency. AIs don’t care who the Raiders were. All they knew was they were programmed to terminate these men and women, and so they did.
In the lab, Egon Stetmann heard the sound of the door opening and looked up with surprise. It was a fully armed marine with closed masks. “Hey, this is a restricted…” The scientist never completed his sentence as the marine lifted his rifle...
Doctor Maya Hanson heard the gunshots and charged into the hallway. There she saw a pair of marines patrolling. Not suspecting anything, she walked up to them…
Back in the bridge, Jean dodged to the right the moment Raynor pulled the trigger. She wasn’t quick enough to dodge gauss bullets, but she was quick enough to dodge Raynor. When the man pulled the trigger Jean’s head was already away from the point where the bullet would land. A gauss bullet slid past Jean and hit a wall. Jean looked at Raynor coldly. The near death experience had no effect on her.

Raynor’s expression turned as he looked into Jean’s eyes. The look in the girl’s eyes was completely different from anything he saw in the girl before. Previously the girl was positive and, despite sometimes being negative, loyal to the Raider’s cause. She fought for freedom and almost died to save her men. Now the girl was cold and expressionless, as if nothing in the world could change her frozen heart. Raynor shook slightly. Even the queen of blades that murdered countless innocent didn’t have such a cold look. He couldn’t imagine what the girl would do...
“You go right. I go left.” Tychus said through the comm, reminding Raynor whatever the reason was this girl had to be dealt with. Unfortunately Jean hacked the device from the verg beginning. The man sneaked to the left and suddenly charged toward the seemingly unsuspecting girl, using his large armor as an advantage. Jean’s hand wiped on her belt, and a blue blade appeared in her hand. Tychus tried to stop himself, but he was too late.
Raynor helplessly watched as Jean turned around and stabbed his brother in arm in the chest. The blue blade penetrated his heart and took all life away from the man. The girl pulled back the blade and allowed the armored body to fall onto the ground. She walked toward the final Raider.
“You bitch…” Raynor cursed as there was nothing he could do. He was wordless and confused. His brain was misfunctioning. “Who are you? Who really are you? A zerg? A Dominion agent? Who the hell are you?!” He yelled. During the process he keenly noticed no matter how loud they were no Raider came to the assistance. The door was wide open, but all that entered the bridge was the sound of gunshots and screams from afar. He knew the rebel group that he single handedly created was gone...all because of the girl before her. The cold calculating bitch would have considered every possibility before abandoning her cover.
Jean looked at the man. The legend. The hero. She didn’t say anything before stabbing Raynor in the heart just like any other Raider she killed. The man looked at Jean as if he wanted to strangle her, but eventually his eyes grew lifeless, and the hero fell on the ground in a pool of his only blood. His life was ended.
Jean gave one last look at the body before giving an order. Several AI marines came in and carried the bodies out. Jean turned to an empty space beside her. “Satisfied?” She asked.
Special agent Nova silently reminded herself to keep an eye on this girl and tell her emperor to may close attention to this so called hacker. She considered herself cold and fearless, but the way she fought and massacred thousands of soldiers without raising an eyebrow frightened her. She asked herself if she could survived Jean if she really wanted her dead. The answer was not satisfying. “Yes.” She replied with a tight lip. “I’ll report this to the emperor.”
“Good.” Jean smiled innocently. She saw the fear in Nova’s eyes. The ghost would warn Mengsk not to mess with her. She had no intention of fighting the Dominion and Amon at the same time. She might seen invincible, but she wasn’t. A stray bullet could kill her.“Now go.” The ghost nodded and left the ship in cloaking mode, which gave her some comfort even though she knew it wouldn’t change anything. Jean looked around the ship after Nova left in a transport. She was the only life left onboard. The once populated and crowded beacon of hope was no longer. All that remained were thousands of Warden units and one voyager.
She mentally made a command, and the Hyperion and the Beetle lifted into the space and jumped away.

Glitched! Uplift Arc
[Winner of the April 22 Royal Road Writathon Challenge] In 2202 the System reached Earth. Thankfully it had learnt from previous uplifts and implemented an introductory arc to acclimatise the new participants rather than chucking them in the deep end. The previous practice of just dumping unsuspecting beings into a System designed for the growth of the multiverse had led to catastrophic and sub-optimal results. The return on investment was abysmal. That old trope was so over-cooked - after nearly extinguishing itself through negative returns new policy was required. That was 356 trillion local years back. Now over 5600 successful uplifts had joined the ranks of the multiverse. But the System was always learning, always growing. Still there were glitches. Mostly minor. Mere irritants really. Sometimes even they were catalysts, triggering a fresh expansion. Soon the System would understand why. Our Earth was 7912th. - Ascend - Battle - Challenge - Dominate - Expand - Gro... - Glor... - Where’s the eff word? - Glitch... File corrupted. ---END SYN---

Anchor Points: Age of Heroes
If you had a chance to reset history, knowing what we know now, would you take it? Six years after kicking an alien expeditionary force off the surface of the Earth back to their staging bases in the asteroid belt, and aided by stolen alien technology, the United Terran Republic Navy has finally achieved enough warship production to put the enemy on the run. Despite the facade of unity projected by the Earth's new federal government, deep cracks still lie under the surface that threaten the stability of world peace and the ability to protect humanity with a unified military response. Within this backdrop, the North American Union, now a mere state in the greater union, has created or reopened multiple off-books projects and black sites to house secrets both old and new that would be far too toxic or dangerous to be known to the wider world at such a delicate stage in world history. One of these secrets will draw Captain Henry O'Toole from his comfortable posting with the Jupiter Fleet straight into a world of conspiracies and secrets that could destroy the new, still fragile world order. Captain O'Toole will take command of mankind's first true starship with a secret mission that would be seen as treason by the new federal government. His orders are to use a prototype faster than light drive to travel through dimensions higher than spacetime and ride the expansion of the universe to create an off-books colony solely for the NAU. There are consequences for escaping time's jealous grasp, which instead position them to have a chance to change the course of human history. Fate has called the Indomitable Will and her crew into the Age of Heroes, will they be able to rise to the challenge?
