《The Prince Of Niflheim》Chapter 19 - Bonding at the library

The first week passed in a flash, and Ariel got a better grasp on the lessons, he will be attending from now on besides the magic theory that he had already learned about.
His second specialized class was water magic class. This was quite beneficial towards his understanding about his affinity, though only partially, since water wasn’t everything to ice. Also, he noticed that he wasn’t the only “officer” who was attending this class. There were two others, who just like him were excused from actual practise.
Although it remains unknown if they do, have magic capabilities. Ariel got in through the officer exam and there were also others like him who wanted to hide their power, since even Sarah and Brendon did the same.
Next up, was a class about familiars. In this lesson the whole attention is focused on familiars that are usually monster, or how they more commonly called among the mages, magic beasts. The students will be going to get their familiars soon, but first they have to pass a test of basic knowledge.
This includes how to make a contract, what do various magic beasts like and dislike also their habitats and other such things, so they could increase their chances in being successful in it.
Last but not least was the magic comprehension class. The name might be strange and can make you misunderstand what it is about. However, Ariel found this lesson to be of utmost importance. If you had to describe what it is about, then you could say it is about everything that has any, tiny relation to magic.
All magic plants, minerals, items, creatures, places and much more are spoken about in this class. Every person needs to know about these things if they are travelling, governing or are seeking something of magic origin. So undoubtedly it would be important for Ariel, who was planning on travelling around in the future, since he won’t be taking over the family anyways and doesn’t have any other responsibilities.
He also found out, that the storage ring he was given by his mother the night before leaving, was also a magic item, and also a rare one. Every magic item that twists space is difficult to create, so even his low ranked one which has little room is extremely expensive.
The rest of the lessons were just the common math, language, history, geography and such. Not anything that he actually needed. But he couldn’t complain since, he is the one who was abnormal here, having large knowledge about all of these things.
Over all, Ariel thought of this week as being very worthwhile. He didn’t regret coming here one bit. Although right now he was in an exited mood. Today is the weekend and he has made plans to meet up with his friend at the cafeteria to spend some time, but it is much later in the day, and right now he is going to and important place for him, to wait for it.

Standing in front of a big door, which was situated at the far side of the school, he could see a plate above it, with the word library engraved on it.
This was The Blue Sky Academy’s famous library that he had wanted to visit for years. Today he finally gets a chance to look through it.
Opening the doors and walking in, he could instantly see an enormous space with uncountable amount of books in front of him. Even though the Whitestone library could be considered not bad, this was on a completely different level.
Everywhere you would look you could see shelves, full of books and smell the ink and paper in the air. After standing like this and admiring the picture for a while, he finally snapped out of it.
Looking around, he noticed the reception table to the left of him. Behind it, there was an old man with completely white hair and seemingly weak body. However, he was surrounded by the air of wisdom, which made people unable to look down on him. Currently he seemed to be reading a book of some sorts.
Coming closer to him, Ariel showed proper etiquette. “Greetings elder, I have come today with the intention to read some books. May I ask for some directions?” For the first time since he entered, the old man looked up at Ariel, drawing away his eyes from the book he was reading, and let out a warm smile. “It seems we have a polite one here. What would you be looking for?” He asked while warmly looking at him, like a kind grandfather would.
Ariel responded in a quick fashion, as he has already planed what to say, even before coming here. “I’m just looking for things about water magic and anything related to it. I chose it as something to study and it has truly caught my interest.” Ariel’s reason was a bit sceptical, but the librarian didn’t pursue the matter and just directed Ariel with a smile. “Go forwards then turn left at the first intersection, after that turn right at the next one and you’ll be there.”
Feeling grateful for the directions, Ariel gave a small bow and started walking with out further ado. As he followed the directions, he soon came up to a section that had “water magic” written next to it.
Giving a quick look around, Ariel was extremely happy to see all kind of things related to water magic. There were books about magic items, plants, magic beasts and other things related to this specific element.
However, the main reason he came here, was to look for a meditation technique fit for him. Variation magic is very rare, and finding several same variation magic’s is even more difficult, so there is no way they would be able to have enough books to make separate sections for them. That is why they are usually put near the elements they were closest too, just like Ariel’s ice magic is closely linked with water.

After thinking for a while, to not raise suspicion, he gathered several other books together with one that he thought, held ice magic and techniques. Going towards the reading tables, he sat down and started slowly flipping through all of the books.
Several hours after the beginning of his search, he finally finished all of the books he picked out. For normal people it would probably bring enormous shock knowing his reading speed, but Ariel would only think of it as normal. He has been reading books in his previous world and even in this one, all the time.
As he put down the last book, he was very excited from the results of his reading, since he has found much more than he bargained for. Just as he had thought, he found several ice meditation techniques and picked the one that he liked the most, named “Nine Winter Shade Meditation”. He is yet to try it out, but he was sure that this was the one most fit for him. Besides this he had also found many recorded spells fit for ice magic.
His arsenal has increased by a substantial amount since the fight against the silver scaled viper, but it was still far from enough, so he wanted to get more spells as fast as possible. Fortunately, Ariel was already very familiar with spell structures and had confidence in being able to reconstruct them for his own need. He was planning on using all of the spells he found, he only needed time.
Because of these findings, he was in a happy mood, as he was putting back the read books in their original places. When he finished cleaning up and decided to finally leave, a voice, coming from behind, startled him. “Is that you Ariel? I didn’t think I would find you here.” Turning around, Ariel saw the beautiful golden haired girl, Erna standing behind him, with several books in her arms.
While calming down, he replied in a composed manner. “I am very passionate about books, so it is not surprising I would be here, though I guess you wouldn’t know that.” He answered.
Erna stood there surprised for while before nodding and speaking. “I see.” Soon she seemed to start getting awkward standing there like that.
Seeing her like this, Ariel didn’t really know what to do. In the past week, their relationship definitely improved. Now they are able to casually speak without feeling awkward, but they were still not that close as two engaged people should be. That’s why meeting randomly like this would be a little uncomfortable.
Standing for a moment, he decided to ask her a question, on his own accord to dispel her awkwardness, before leaving. As he looked towards the books she was holding, he asked. “It seems you also like books, almost as much as me.” Looking down, Erna couldn’t help but smile and say. “Besides training and spending time with Sarah, reading was the only pleasure I could enjoy.”
Ariel nodded in understanding and started leaving, when Erna called out to him. “Since you are here, maybe you would want to talk about some books, it is actually something we have in common, and I don’t really have other friends who hold the same interest.” Ariel could only agree while looking at embarrassed face, he didn’t want to make it even more difficult for her and also, it was the same for him. Neither, Sarah nor Brendon had as big of an interest in books as him, so he had to acknowledge that he felt slightly happy about finding someone like himself.
He sat down without a word and let the excited Erna start by herself. As their conversation about books started, they were still speaking a bit reservedly, but soon it broke out into a heated discussion which lasted for more than an hour. When it finally ended, both of them felt relieved being able to speak out their mind.
At that time, Ariel looked towards the giant clock on the library wall and remembered that he had to go to the cafeteria to meet up with Sarah and Brendon.
Standing up, he spoke to Erna. “It seems we spent quite a bit of time, Sarah and Brendon are already waiting.” Hearing his words, Erna let out a brilliant and happy smile. She was extremely happy to have been able to have such a fun conversation. Unknowingly, her opinion of Ariel has increased by a huge amount and she quickly agreed to his words.
They tidied up the books and quickly left the library, heading to the cafeteria to meet up with their friends that were waiting for them there.
