《The Prince Of Niflheim》Chapter 17 - Erna Alasia

Waking up early in the morning, Ariel saw an unfamiliar ceiling and recalled about, how yesterday he finally joined The Academy.
Getting up to do his usual routine, he remembered that he will have to modify it a little, since he had a roommate now. Thinking for a while, he then took the school uniform, which was given to him yesterday, and wore it.
Looking at himself in the mirror he didn’t have many complaints, to him, these clothes seemed to match him quite well in all honesty. So after tidying his hair and a few other places, he finished his check up and went to look at his schedule.
Since he has told Sarah that he was fine with what she would pick, this was the first time he saw what the will be attending, and he wasn’t disappointed in it. Besides the common subjects that were required, he would attend these extra lessons, magic theory class, water magic training, familiar taming class as well as magic comprehension class.
He wasn’t against going against any of them and he even liked them very much. Today he will be going to the magic theory lesson and after that all the common stuff.. Each extra class was held once a day at different times, but it was strict in that you could go only to the one you were signed up to. Also it seems only one extra class was arranged for each day.
As Ariel was preparing to leave through the door after confirming where he had to go today, Brendon stirred from his sleep and just when he opened his eyes, he saw Ariel ready to leave somewhere.
Sitting up alarmingly, he looked at him with eyes wide open before speaking up. “Where are you going so early, clearly there are still a few more hours until class aren’t there?”
People would probably be shocked to see the usual calm and graceful Brendon speak with such a sleepy expression. Only Ariel and other people close to him knew that he was an extremely laid back person and sometimes also a bit of a lazy one, too.
Ariel didn’t want to ruin his sleep, so he tried being as quite as possible, but sometimes Brendon’s instincts are sharper than they needed to be. “I’m used to taking walks early in the morning, so I thought to go out for some fresh air before the lessons, so don’t worry about me, you should go back to sleep and we can meet at the first lesson since it is the same for both of us it seems.”
“Oh, okay see you later.” Hearing Ariel’s words Brendon replied and once again went back to sleep in a lazy manner, not continuing to press the issue at hand any longer.

Seeing his friend being so carefree, Ariel could only sigh and leave through the door. After walking down the stairs, he left the dorm and continued walking through the desolate Academy.
The reason he went out was actually because he wanted to meditate, but didn’t want to reveal his capabilities just yet, so he decided to go and train besides the tree he slept under yesterday.
Finding the place in question wasn’t hard and as he sat down, Ariel started his daily training. That continued for several hours.
Later that morning, Ariel finally finished his training. Looking up at the sky, he determined that class should be starting soon, so he got up while dusting off his pants and started walking towards the main building.
There were already a lot more people than earlier, who were conversing and laughing with their friends while enjoying the weather. Just as Ariel was about to enter inside The Academy, a mesmerising voice suddenly called out to him from the side. “Good morning, may I ask you if your name is Ariel?” Ariel stopped moving and turned around to see who was looking for him.
What he saw was a stunningly beautiful girl who seemed to be even slightly higher level of a beauty than Sarah. She had long golden hair comparable to the sun and ocean blue eyes that seemed to draw you in. her figure was quite developed for her age, and the large amount of elegance exuded from her coupled with the angelic and innocent face which always had a radiant smile on it, made her desirable to any man.
Unfortunately, even tough Ariel could appreciate beauty and found it pleasing to the eyes, but he wasn’t very affected by such things on an external level and replied without hesitation. “You are correct, my full name is Ariel Whitestone, may I ask who you are, and for what reason you were looking for me?”
The girls smile became slightly brighter as she spoke. “My name is Erna Alasia, and as you already probably know, I am your fiancée. Today I just came because I wanted to meet my future husband.” She said while still maintaining a calm expression, but inwardly she was evaluating him and was impressed that he wasn’t stunned by her beauty, this hasn’t ever happened before, while meeting a young man.
Hearing her words, Ariel was a bit taken back, he has heard plenty about his fiancée before, but he never met her. Who knew they would run into each other so suddenly. Looking at her for a while, he had to admit that she truly worthy of being compared to Sarah, but to him she was just a beautiful stranger and nothing more.

Thinking about what to do, he decided to ask her something that has been bugging him for a while now. “How did you know it was me?”
Erna only nodded and explained. “I heard about you from Sarah, not many people fit the description of outrageously handsome.” She said with a laugh.
After he heard this, Ariel could only smile inwardly to this description as he nodded and turned to leave.
Seeing this, Erna’s eyes opened wide in slight shock. Most of the times, men would try to drag out the conversation to be able to speak to her longer, but unlike them, her fiancé did the opposite, wanting to finish it quickly and leave.
This made her reevaluate him a bit and before he left, she spoke out again trying to stop him by continuing their conversation. “I was thinking we should spend a bit of time together, since we will still have to marry someday and can’t do anything about it. So it is better to get a little more acquainted. ”
Turning back to look, Ariel had conflicting feelings, as he never had a fiancée in his previous life, forget that, he didn’t even have a girlfriend. That’s why this situation was a bit uncomfortable for him, and he didn’t know how to reply.
Just before he was about to refuse her instinctively, he heard a familiar voice. “Oh, there you are, Ariel.” Hearing these words, he looked towards the entrance to the main building where there stood a beautiful blue haired girl, who of course was Sarah. She was smiling widely to him, but soon after, she suddenly saw Erna standing behind him and her smile turned slightly stiff for a moment, before she finally continued speaking.
“It seems you’re here too Erna” Sarah said while looking a bit awkward. Luckily, for her, Ariel decided to step in and speak up himself. “Yes, I just met Erna here, and after a small talk I was about to head to class, you came at quite a right time, actually.”
As Ariel finished his sentence, Erna spoke her own thoughts. “This is correct, I just wanted to have a chat with my fiancé and although we didn’t manage to finish it we should hurry, since the lesson will be starting soon.” Truthfully she was a bit frustrated to have their conversation interrupted, but she wasn’t really angry. It is just that, even she was a bit embarrassed to talk about their future relationship in front of her best friend.
When they were done speaking Sarah’s awkwardness was already gone, and she spoke with a slight smile. “Erna will be attending magic theory as well, so it is fine that I found you at the same place.”
Ariel was a bit surprised at this, but he nodded, and urged the two girls to start walking, as he saw a crowd started forming around them,, being attracted by the three extremely good looking people.
Fortunately, they managed to get away in time, without meeting much trouble, while they headed towards the classroom and the girls started talking about some of their own stuff making the previous awkwardness feel like it never existed.
They soon came up to the class door and went in, the classroom was already almost completely filled, but thankfully Brendon has reserved a seat for each of them.
While they were heading to their spots in a quick manner, the whole class was staring at them. The boys were drooling over Sarah and Erna, while the girls were doing the same over Ariel. Obviously they were shocked by these newcomers.
Reaching Brendon they, could finally relax, from having the hungry eyes on them, since their seats were at the very back and even these students weren’t so audacious to do something so impolite, like turning around just to stare.
Sitting down, their seating arrangements were like this, on the very left was Brendon and to his right was Sarah, while Ariel was sandwiched by the two girls, putting him in a very envious position.
As they got comfortable, Brendon finally couldn’t hold back and asked. “I didn’t think all three of you would come together, how did it end up like this?” Hearing this, Sarah made an unpleasant expression that only Brendon could see from his point of view.
The next moment she spoke. “I found them when they have just met, that’s all.” Ariel and Erna decided to just keep quite on this matter.
Seeing the face his sister was making, Brendon let out a mischievous smirk, guessing that Sarah was reminded about their engagement, which made her jealous. He has long since known about her crush, so he was about to tease her when the bell rang making him close his mouth
Just a moment later, the class room door opened again, indicating that the teacher has, arrived.

Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
