《Mystery of the Dungeon》Chapter 35.1 Helen PoV Tournament Day 1

This place is intense. We all live in floors 15 and 16 of Mavis’s dungeon but his MP concentration here on the 20th floor of this new one is off the charts.
We are all feeling it. This mass of MP seeping into our bodies. I take a moment to try and regulate this. I take some deep breaths and close my eyes and mediate. I then make a huge draw of the ambient MP and cover my core with that excess MP.
The MP stabilizes inside my body and i no longer feel the weight of this dungeon.
Helen: ‘Guys, you will need to pull the MP in and cover your cores with what you process. Do the same to your partners.’
I go to Skull and cover her core with processed MP freeing her from the heavy restraints of the dense MP in the air.
After about 10 minutes we are all done. I took the time to look around and was amazed by how huge this place was. The sky, was a sky, there were clouds and only if you look closely you can see the sun crystals far up. The only one we can truly see is the one that was beaming down the most intense light as if it funneled it in which is where Mavis flew to.
Helen: ”Mavis, can you tell me what the safest and closest monster is?”
Mavis: ”Like hell i know which is the safest. Every last monster is mindless and is being controlled directly by the dungeon.”
Helen: ”Fine, let me rephrase this. What is the weakest monster you can tell?”
Mavis: ”From the looks of it, the monster heading to you at this moment would be the weakest. Its body is similar to a drake but its head has three horns that channel its magic. It’s a quadruped that can’t go deep into the forest and would likely be at its weakest in that tight environment.”
At once i sniff the air but smell nothing. Still it wasn’t safe to stay here for too long.
Helen: ‘Let’s move!’
We mount our Snowlions and ride off towards the trees.
It was rather far and soon we saw what was heading our way.
Approaching from behind on our left was a massive body. Like Mavis said the monster was a quadruped. The legs were large but the feet had no toes and only nails. Its body was massive going as high as 4 meters and 9 meters long. The head had two horns on its strangely long head and on horn on the nose. It didn’t have any visible teeth but a beak shaped mouth. The skin looked like rocks intricately connected to make armor.
It was rapidly approaching us with speed that doesn’t match its size.
Helen: So this is why he told us to be careful. For this bastard to move so fast. Let’s have fun ”Let it approach and when it's five meters away split. Four of you with me to the right and the rest to the left.”

I sent my message through the link so as not to give away our strategy. We also picked up the pace. The speed we were at was about 20% so that we could meet this thing as it charged. Now we were at 50% and letting it slowly approach carefully.
When it was within the range we finally split. I roared and everyone split letting the idiotic mass run straight. At that moment we turned back and ran 70% quickly catching up to the monster that was doing a slow turn. Because it couldn’t see us it would need to stop before turning.
We caught up and hid behind its view and waited. As soon as it noticed we were gone it slowed down and we attacked.
I jumped off Skull and grabbed the great sword and following the unsheathing motion i brought the sword down on his left hind leg. I aimed at the thing outer edge of the rocky skin plate and with success i cut clean into the leg and through the muscle and finally part of the legs giant.
I landed on the monsters and with a quick retreat, i jump backwards and land mounted on Skull who was just passing.
The pain made the beast roar and it's pointlessly unnecessary need to stand up caused it to topple because of its leg. It revealed the underside of the belly which three War tigers took the chance to attack leaving it in pieces.
They got out just as the monster was standing up weakly.
A pool of red blood poured out of its leg and belly and it looked at us in a weak rage.
It was far too gone already and it couldn’t move because of the leg.
Finally to finish this off the strongest male and my...hehe mate… not the time sorry. He pulled out a massive hammer made by the annoyingly hard bones of a Barroths head.
Mounted on his mount he raced forward and when he was close enough he jumped and the snowlion veered. He spun in the air twice before he reached the monster and connected the hammer right in the middle of the beast’s horns.
A shock wave went through its body and it trembled a bit before it fell to the side. The variant white furred War tiger roared in triumphant.
Helen: ‘This isn’t over, this is only the first one. We are in a battle don’t forget that. Gather some meat. We will be here until every other monster is dead or we die. Don’t get carried away.’
With my orders the monster's legs were carved out and the meat gathered and we left the area.
By using some large leaves from the forests that have a nice strong smell we wrap the meat so we can hide the scent of blood.
From there, through Mavis’s guidance we moved into the forests. This was much more our area of expertise. The Snowlion were less experienced but War tigers could run on top of the trees like apes. We spent time like this so we knew the feeling. Still if needed we can climb up and ambush. They can climb like any cat even with us on.

We travel a while and soon the rain forest gets denser and the terrain mountain like with cliffs and hills but not so much to cause snow and stuff. Just uphill and downhill.
At this moment we had just climbed over a mountain and were looking down through a clear space where the trees weren’t blocking our view. What we saw were four wyverns raging in the air.
We watch them and see their abilities. It was essential to see what we were fighting. All of them were at the least 12 meters long. One had poison spikes on its tail and on its claws that were on its wings. They fought by colliding in the air and try to bring down its enemies. They would normally fall for a few meters before one knocks the other away and fly off.
Of the wyverns, only one looked like a dragon. It had tiny weak for arms separate from its wings and breathed fire. The others were wyverns and spit balls of fire.
They were all bloody from the clawing and attacks and soon one of them tried to escape. It was scaly and looked similar to the wyverns we have. It was green in color and it had several deep gashes on its chest. The tail was cut so its poison barbs were gone but the bleeding had stopped probably from lizard healing.
Helen: ‘Those three aren’t following it. Let’s hunt that one down.’
I point at the escaping wyvern and everyone growls in agreement.
We set off soon after.
By the time we locate the beast the sun crystals had already begun to release an orange glow which meant it was nearing night time.
It is getting dangerous. Luckily the mountains had small caves we could refuge in.
Anyway when we found the wyvern it was in a confrontation.
On the far side away from us was what looked like a bull made of earth. Not really, it was actually covered in dirt but under it was a brown plate scale of the same color as dirt. The only way to distinguish the difference is the moss growing with the dirt. Its tail extended almost two thirds its body length out and at its end was a massive earth like club tail.
It walked slowly while eyeing the wyvern.
Suddenly the wyvern pulled back its body and fired three consecutive fire balls and rushed out at the bull. The beast easily took them and to all our surprise it jumped and spun once before bringing its massive club down on the wyvern that ran into its range.
The sick sound of bones crushing resounded and the wyvern lay on the ground without even twitching.
Helen: ‘This one is even more deadly than a wyvern. To jump with that mass.’ It had space because this was a clearing probably made by it.”
It turned away and walked over to a nearby tree and what a head but it toppled the tree. Then it bit into the tree and began eating it.
We began to discuss how to deal with it while sitting on the trees nearby. We left the snowlions in a cave while we scouted. The cave was closed and a smelly herb was put around it to hide our scent.
Mate: ‘From its strength, better leave. Kills beast stronger than Barroth.’
Helen: ‘For now let’s head back before it gets dark. We will sleep for the night.’
Everyone nodded and we returned and hid ourselves away.
Mavis: ”Yo guys. Good job hunting the first beast. Everyone was shocked you did it so effortlessly.”
Helen: ”Brute strength only matters if you can hit. Also it was a dumb as a slime.”
Mate: ”Yes, good meat.’
Sitting around a small fire we ate the cooked meat from the beast we killed while we listened to Mavis.
Mavis: ‘Of the twenty competitors that began only twelve remain. You guys are the only race with more than one beast so if you kill a monster, you eliminate a competitor.”
Tiger 1: Great one, beasts are dangerous, can we live through?
Mavis: ”Don’t act reckless and plan what you will do. The monster you saw before is a powerful beast but its weaknesses are easy for you to hit. The back and its tail will cause great damage to it if attacked. For now rest, sleep in shifts until morning. DO NOT leave the cave. There is a night hunter in this competition but it’s too big to hunt you guys in here.”
Helen: ”I will take first shift. Mavis, you can keep track of time. Tell me when it’s time to switch.”
Mavis: ”Got it. Everyone go rest while Helen and Skull watches first.”
They all growled and after eating they extinguish the fire leaving everything in the darkness. I lie down near what remains of the entrance and watch for anything signs of live. Skull lays down behind me so i can rest on her. I scratch her cheek and she purrs in pleasure.
This is only day one so let’s rest for now things are only getting better.
First monster Main skin model but on a triceratops body.

8 160Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
