《Mystery of the Dungeon》Chapter 25 Big Changes

Mavis PoV
It's been a month since the adventurers guild appeared. The construction of the branch is almost done and they have already started giving out requests.
How do I know? Well after the guild came, I noticed I was pretty blind in the fact that they could send a secret force to kill me if they felt it. I also have been away for a long time from human contact.
I thought about what to do for a while. One idea which I did make happen was make a scout. The idea of a bee drone or something of the like passed through my head as quick and efficient scouts but what I needed was something that could get into the town easily and unnoticed.
Besides bugs the two other options I had were birds and rats. Birds could get in but not into houses so the last one was rats.
For now I would stick with rat drones then.
I had Dalson take a bug eater rat and improve it. The size was made smaller so it looked closer to a mouse then a rat. Now it was a third of the size of a regular bug eater rat who is 25 cm long from the nose to the base of the tail.
The muscles were made denser so it was stronger than an aggressive rat despite its size and it was given better hearing, sight and night vision. The small front paws were given thumbs and made like a marsupial feral rat so it could grab things easily.
They were given light brown fur so they can blend into the shadows both during the day and night.
With them made I bred them and at night I released the 10 I bred. They would increase in numbers at a slow pace since we made them have a weaker breeding rate than regular dungeon rats. I just needed spies not an infestation.
Because they were going to be outside of the dungeon they would need to hunt and eat so I, for the first few days, had to breed them and find a food source for them to survive on.
When they got there, I had the carefully build a nest next to the small village walls behind some bushes.
Just a small fact, up until now my field of vision has been only where I could see around the entrance of my dungeon. I've kept from sending any small monster out because I might lose control of it since small monsters normally live on the first floor so they are animals but after examining well the drones I am sure they are counted as monsters so my control is stronger.
Anyway it was interesting to expand my field of vision at least to the village. I found quite a good number of stuff in the adventurer's guild. It was interesting to see that the village chief made it a law in this town that the guild isn't allowed to attack and kill me. Thanks to this I calmed down a great deal since I was already planning on ditching this place.
Because of that I just slowly gathered power.
I worked on my dungeon mostly and in this month, thanks to the large number of adventurers coming in, I reached 10 floors in the dungeon, 11 with the Great forest. The floors were all built as a Forest Ruin but I changed each floor a bit more. With each floor I added a bit more small streams and gradually it gathered until I made a new combo.
The combo was, Layout [Forest Ruin] + Corridor/Room [Forest Ruin] with water streams = [Swamp Ruins]
The [Swamp Ruins] were used on the ninth floor and the Boss Room. It was quite nice to see that the Ludroth and lizard kin were quite adapt for swamp lands.
During the month I also started make fish monsters. Not many but they weren't fish the village could get since they were monsters. Most were small but some were strong.
I went the unconventional route and made large fish into herbivore and smaller fish carnivores. I ended up making a small pack fish we called a Piranha. The smallest doesn't pass the size of a human palm but the largest was quite large and a solitary hunter.
The largest was nearly a meter long with dense muscles that made it nearly as strong as a mid-sized shark. This was let loose in the swamps hidden rapids I made behind the walls. What appeared in the rooms were areas the water calmed and made good breeding grounds for small fish. This piranha we named it the appropriate "Black Hunt" due to its dark green, almost black scales which made it a shadow in the water when looked from above.
We also developed many swamp creatures like crocodile, from the dungeon lizards, and a variety of frogs as food source with two breeds being monsters for fighting.
For natural traps we went with leeches and several disease carrying bugs that would cause turmoil for whoever they strike.
I also got a variant of gremlins because of the swamp. We split it from the original gremlin and made it a separate race. We called it a Kappa. It was a gross goblin that grew webbed hands and feet, on its back was a turtle shell and for some reason they had a bird's beak for a mouth. This was a variant born from natural evolution which I allow to a small degree from monster.
As for the boss itself I had to do a lot of thinking with Dalson. We needed to come up with a suitable base and from the monsters we had the ones that could make the best out of the water and swamp lands we made the boss room out of not many were compatible. The room had an underwater lake and the land was made of thick tree roots. Also the water comes up half way up the leg.
Talking with the guys from the guild and the other villages we ended up using the Ludroth as the base for the boss.
With that decided I spawned the monster. What appeared was a Ludroth nearly four times larger with a strange sponge like mane. It was an excellent swimmer and had strength built for the job as dungeon boss. Considering it uses its environment it would probably beat Morgan as well which was good. The boss was named a Royal Ludroth because on its head it grew a small crest of horns which looked like a crown.
I also attached a small tunnel too small for the Boss to get out but it was just right for smaller Ludroth to come in so the boss could call on them similar to one of Morgan's Skills to summon the skeletons of his ten C rank men that died with him.
Now about the outpost, with further probing I found I couldn't copy the boss room. Instead an outpost would be built into Levels. In my case, level 1 is floors 1-4 and level 2 is Floors 6-9. A single dungeon heart is used as a catalyst to stabilize the outpost and the heart is hidden in a room similar to the Queen's Lair. Rather strange but I wasn't complaining.
Besides that I found out that coping cost 100k for each floor but the stabilize the floor I needed to continue adding magic power until the floor become solid instead of a swirl mass of magic power. I found this normal since I used a lot more magic power than 100k for most floors but floor 1 I made instantly and half the residents were teleported to the new copy which was going to be the outpost.
At the end of the month I had both levels copied, populated and ready for action.
I began setting up the outpost by designing the gate which would fix the dungeon here.
I went with a five meter high 5 meter wide double door gate made of reinforced steel and Mithril engraved on it making the magic seal over the door to connect to the dungeon. Next on the side of the door I needed to make a way for them to enter. Because there were two levels I needed two lock. I ended up using the gemstones I already use as the locks and the MP of who wants to enter as the key. It would automatically put a seal on them and there wasn't any other way to enter the dungeon. Though if someone crashed open the door they would face my original dungeon with all its glory and horrors.
When I finished making the design I waited until night and built it outside. The gate on the fourth and ninth floor which goes to the boss room was connected making a loop to which the adventurers and villagers can exit upon crossing the dungeon completely.
I wasn't going to leave because I still need to set up a lot of systems to this outpost. It seems I can set many things up like in the monster infested large ruins I can make treasure spawn or how the dungeon would evaluate each person and reward them if they give up at the end of a floor before reaching the end.
It was a huge amount of stuff that would make the outpost work properly without letting monsters go wild.
Now if you're wondering if I ignored the great forest then you are dead wrong. I get so much magic power every day I expanded the place greatly. First off the lake, before from the shore to the end of the lake it was 8 km x 10 km. Now it was 100x100 km. Water currents were also starting to form within as warm water flowed down.
The grasslands were a bit smaller at 70 km x 100 km and now easily housed the Saurus, Drakes, Wyvern and all the bull based monsters we bred from the cattle we got from selling maps for the first four floors.
Cows were kept as livestock and this idea was taught to the other monster races. Besides that, knowing several wild bull races we modified several cows and made them into those. We kept the, monster part as low as possible so that the dwellers can kill them easier. Though we still did work on them as monsters.
At the start we tried to make a Minotaur from them but it wasn’t working out right but I remembered some reference that a Minotaur is a goblin kin by rank up so we took an ogre and tied combining a bull and an ogre and it worked. We were able to make a Minotaur. The creature was three and half meters tall with a bulls head but the heightened intelligence of the ogre we made it from.
As for the other races, kobolds were given several forms similar to goblins but theirs were more like job races. Mage, Foot soldier, Ninja, Archer, and so one were all made. Strangely this migrated to goblins and from hobgoblin they took on forms closer to humans while holding their profession in their race name.
It was strange since we never saw this phenomenon before. Not only that the race was very smart and to human levels as well. We ended up calling them all Lords because they were similar but varied in type.
The most interesting part of this is that natural evolution is much more interesting than regular forced changes Dalson makes.
Anyway the rain forest was expanded like the Lake, 100x100 km as was the tropical forest.
Now new additions would be the rocky mountain on the far side of my little world in between the plains and rain forest.
For the swamp I made on the far side of the tropical forest and made it a bit lower in altitude to the rest. I then made many river springs. The small water spouts rise up from the water basin I made below to feed the rivers.
These small streams I slowly guided to either the swamp through the tropical forest or to the lake.
I slowly linked many of them and soon a few rivers began to form its way through the forest and gains strength but not much. To fix this I raised the tropical forest to a higher altitude then made the land hillier. This cause the river to gain strength. In a few spots I make it slow down and form a few lakes where I drop fish to grow, algae for food and so on.
The side effects of doing this, as well as the massive space that opened up, caused a natural weather pattern to form, though weak. Every so often a weak rain shower happens all over the room because of the increased humidity in here. A light wind can also be felt since warm air has started to circulate. The roof at its highest is now well over 2,000 meters up which gives a huge space.
The space inside the forest has grown so large that I won’t need to worry about the need for expanding it to much for a while. If they wanted to, the tribes could each make a kingdom in here and live peacefully though I would prefer them joining in one large kingdom.
Well, not like I actually cared much about it but it would help make things easier for trading between the dwellers and those outside. Since the outpost was already set and both the copied dungeon, which was the outpost, and my original were recovered in number of monsters, I will see how things go around here and I might leave for someplace better.
Village Chief PoV
My village has grown large. The previous 60 residents now number in the hundreds and not just fishermen. In the month the adventurers guild built the new branch, many craftsmen came to the village. After a month it was finally proclaimed as a proper town and I was given the title of lord of the town. I laughed at the title but considering few other towns exist on the frontier we would probably be the main stepping stone for the expansion.
At the end of the month Mavis did something big again. Because of the increase in adventurers running inside and then giving magic power for protection he must have gotten a tremendous amount of magic power. On the morning of the new month we found a large gate and the pedestal was gone. Instead in its place was a stone slab with instructions about how the dungeon would work.
It seems his main body was leaving in an unknown amount of time but he made sure to make a copy of himself. The dungeon would have 2 levels each with four floors. Level 1 is what we villagers normally go through, the first four floors, and level 2 is a second set of four floors of a different floor type and different monsters. The dungeons gained a unique resource known as outcrops which ore of different types can be mined so we can get metal as well.
The restrictions for hunting monsters with minds are still active because they will be managing the camp sites and will make a small village in those rooms.
After everything was read, the stone plate was pulled out of the ground and placed against the wall of the adventurer’s guild. The rules were set as such. It also seems the dungeon heart is hidden and out of reach.
Seeing this more than strange, the guild and our men were sent to investigate exactly what happened.
When they returned the sun was almost setting. They returned with several bags and newer equipment. Several had some heavy bruising just a bit above the normal for these men.
Grant was among them and when he returned he was wearing new chain mail armor and several pieces of steel plate armor.
The bags they carried were filled with many of the caves resources but it was in such an amazing amount that we had a hard time believing it.
They told us that the armor was obtained in a village with many of the creatures that weren't allowed to attack. It was like being in a mining town. The place had all kind of shops stocked with good or great quality goods.
The painful part though is that they do bartering trade using the dungeon goods and magic power.
If it wasn't because of the few humans there it would have felt like they entered a monster village to be sacrificed.
We couldn't help but wonder how they got to that degree of development but then again, we never went down below the fourth floor. They probably had a safe village below and they could probably move faster than us within the dungeon.
Not to mention they were powerful. Some of the men even felt that the hunters and fighters inside outclassed them and we only sent B ranked men since we need to see all the way to the fourth floor.
This clearly showed how much stronger the lower floors are.
We didn't know how to go but the guild proclaimed level two far too difficult. And should only be attempted in raiding parties with more than 15 people all of whom must be B rank. Someone contested about carrying the goods obtained on that floor.
Because of this a new job was opened for F, E and D ranks that want to go to level 2. It’s called Supporter, they would lug most of the supplies, drops and dungeon resources extracted from there as well as train their bodies while carrying the large bags.
(A.N. Yes the same kind as Danmachi)
With this I readied my best men and some quick footed boys who wouldn't get in the way and sent them to level 2.
The results were more than shocking. The men were equal to B rank and they could only go down 2 floors and it took them nearly 3 days. It seems the level 2 holds traps, disease spreading monsters, humid temperatures which make the air heavy, lots of spores and a huge variety of monsters.
The monsters now had many jungle animal types. My men met a village in the first room of each floor plus several peaceful monster bases within the some rooms. They were able to survive because of that since these rooms held herbs that could cure the diseases and poison used by the monsters.
They also discovered the secret to the high quality potions. They are made from slime that eat the herbs and mix it in their body.
Shame they can't bring it out but they were able to process all the herbs they collected into potions and we could now sell the potions in greater quantities than before where the dwellers came up.
It does worry the guild master that B rank harpoon warriors like my boys would need to stop at the second floor only.
Oh they also gained a reward for knowing their limits. First, the Supporters gained magic bags that would hold any item as long as it fits through the lid. The weight is reduced but it still there and the mass is decreased allowing them to carry much more.
As for the men. The top three fighters got a magic weapon, a harpoon obviously. They all held elemental enchantments and were made out of Silver which was a cheap but excellent conductor of magic. The enchantment cause the weapon to be coated in lightning if loaded with magic power before throwing and hitting its target.
Though the boys are against throwing the weapon it’s a valuable weapon which would definitely help them push on.
The rest gained a few pieces of armor of far greater quality to the shabby iron gear we got as rewards from level 1.
What was real amazing was what they found inside large ruins inside the dungeon. Several chests full of treasures. They weren’t filled completely but what it held was enough to make a poor man live like a noble for a good month or if he was smart, at least 3 months.
With the scouting of level 2, the news of the finds travelled like wildfire. The people here I knew wouldn't be so affected by greed but humans are a selfish race. I think we should get ready for more than just simple bandits.
If I know those religious pricks, they would put claim on the dungeon so they could claim the magic items and I fear for the dwellers, and more so for ourselves.

8 153The Last 100
The bustling crush of humanity had become common place now, the cacophony of voices and the symphony of a city had become the song and dance of our species. But it was not always such, and return back to our more humble roots we did.The system had come, and it had stripped us bare. Sure it had given us a means to power, but at what cost. We were the last 100 left. Night was falling on the human race, it was a dark night, and it was cold. But go quietly we would not. We would make the world burn with an inferno of our defiance. Rage, rage against that goodnight, and I Jack Casser, have rage a plenty. This is my story, the story of the last 100.Author Note: This story is a LitRPG apocalypse, woah fucking original idea I know but hear me out. If you can look past preconceived ideas driven by a stigma of overdone tropes and done to death plots of achieving world domination and self-righteous characters and give the story a chance I hope it can surprise you.
