《Mystery of the Dungeon》Chapter 17 Lake setup

Rey PoV
We leave to the village with Mavis's demands. It was rather amazing stuff. Weekly pay for use of his dungeon in the form of MP. The last time he said it reached near 80k in MP.
The week the dungeon dweller pay as well as the guild will cause him to amass a huge amount nearly 200k in one go.
I still have yet to give him my idea but i think it would help to make the fifth floor a single room floor like an arena for a dungeon boss and expand the breeding grounds. That final floor will really test anyone who gets there. We won't let Mavis die so it will be hard for anyone but a hero to reach us.
We arrive at the village soon after. The villagers have grown used to us but were curious about why i brought the gem again.
The ex slaves have already come to visit bringing bags of dungeon items which made the villagers droll.
Sea goods were traded for the items as well as imported items.
Us elves, who know advanced techniques for processing the herbs and discovered most uses for the dungeon products, also came with processed goods that could only make the villagers swallow hard their saliva as they hold back from trying to snatch it.
I had no doubt this port town would become huge because of these products. I wonder what would happen after we left.
Maybe the five top floors Mavis can leave behind as a normal dungeon. Who knows.
We reach the village chief’s house. The old fisherman was sitting on the chair on his porch under the shade caused by his house.
Rey: ‘Evening. Mavis finally finished rebuilding himself. This is a new list of monsters that can be hunted. They increased with the magic power your village gave for that.’
I hand the piece of paper to the old chief takes the paper and starts looking them over and i see as his eyes widened.
Chief: ‘He went and bred demon race. Boy that dungeon really wants to make things interesting huh. From the list we probably will only reach floor 3 unless some of those put as guards go.’
Rey: ‘Mavis prohibits entrance to the fifth floor unless a portal is opened directed into the villages for trade.’
Chief: ‘Why?’
Rey: ‘All the villages are sealed so monsters won’t invade. The fifth floor is a huge breeding ground for all the monsters except the demon ones being born from the gremlin.’
Chief: ‘Ah so its the worst battle ground huh.’
Rey: ‘There are numerous races in that floor that are kept in there. Several are only found in there so entering the floor is asking to fight an unknown army.’
Chief: ‘I’m not so stupid to try that. So what are the conditions.’
I pull out the small emblem shaped like a small magic circle and the paper with Mavis’s demands and hand it to him.
He starts reading and i see him frown, then his eyebrows raise up in surprise.
Chief: ‘Well now. I don’t know how to think of this. Weekly MP payment but to receive something that will keep us from dying inside makes things real tempting. With this we can be a bit more reckless but not by much. Still what will keep us from going down to the fifth floor.’
Rey: ‘I’m guessing the best security force a dungeon can make besides the Dungeon lord himself.’
Chief: ‘A dungeon boss huh. The ones marked as Tier three all look scary and thinking of a boss of one of them sends shivers down my old bones.’

Rey: ‘So will you accept his terms?’
Chief: ‘I only have something to gain if it’s simply magic power that he wants. When the boys return from their trips at night we will charge this up for you. Do you have those little emblem things that will keep us safe?’
I remove a bag and deposit them at his feet.
Rey: ‘They vanish after a week when the magic power making them up runs out. You simply put this to your chest and it will engrave itself to your body for the week. If you fall once and are teleported out you will need to get a new one. Oh, mavis said that if adventures come then they need to pay separately for an emblem. We will manage that at the dungeon entrance.’
Chief: ‘Fair enough. Boys, spread these around to those who will be going in tomorrow.’
Rey: ‘Now then besides this work i want a trade chief.’
Chief: ‘And what for what?’
Rey: ‘The live fish for the map of floors 1 and 2.’
A wide grin shows up on the old mans face.
Chief: ‘I see you came with very tempting bargaining chips. And what do you want for the other 2 floor maps.’
Rey: ‘I want you to separate several types of livestock you have in your farms. As well as a list of wild animals and monsters in the surrounding area.’’
The man shows a wilder grin already understanding my intent on gathering this stuff.
Chief: ‘A shrewd trader if i ever saw one. Fine, get some of your boys into my house. I have documents stored away with that information. As for the livestock, how long do you need them taken care of?’
Rey: ‘3 months.
Chief: ‘Any reason for it needing that much time?’
Rey: ‘We need to make the fifth floor larger to breed sea and freshwater creatures but we also need to set up flat lands for creatures that like flat areas like bovine. We are going to build a second world in that floor. One much more savage than this one.’
At this point the old man started to laugh.
Chief: ‘Hope to join that world someday. But until that day comes i will enjoy my life here.’
I chuckled a bit. Then turned to those behind me.
Rey: ‘Julie, Milliana please go gather the information. Theo, go see if you can spot anything in the woods. Mark down what you see and try to draw a sketch so we can match name to body.’
The three nod and go their separate ways.
The chief heads inside his house with the girls and i head to the pier to try and look at the variety of fish in this region to choose the kinds we wanted. Theo heads off into the woods to search the area while the rest of the men stayed close to me trading goods we gathered inside Mavis.

I jogged all they way to the entrance of the village before turning to the north west where the forest was closest.
I passed through a slight rising flatland used for feeding livestock and soon reached the forest.
Unlike the denser forest in Mavis, which within a 2 m2 area there are 15 trees, this one is less dense with 5 in the same amount of space.
The trees were smaller and looked more like a rainforest then the tropical one in the dungeon.
I start exploring the area looking for signs of animal life.

The area i am searching is east of mavis about a kilometer away.
It seems like the dungeon caused the area to have more goblins since i encountered several along the way. Still i found several animals. Some were animals we didn't possess in the dungeon. Raccoons, fox, squirrel, several bird of prey.
It was when the sun was starting to set that i stumbled upon it.
Around 5 km away from Mavis a cave in the rock face was open. I could feel magic power in the area since i have spent so much time inside A dungeon.
I enter quietly and scout the area.
The first floor had animals. To be more precise animal monsters.
They were low level kind in their first stages of being monsters.
In the low light i pulled out a blank book and drew the ones i could see in the first room.
There were two rabbit monsters.
One was the elusive Horned Rabbit, a rabbit about the size of a small dog with a long horn similar to a unicorn.
The other was a Hare. Similar to a rabbit but bigger and more aggressive with knife like claws.
I couldn't proceed further without fighting so i retreated for now.
This dungeon would give us a good bit of information on some animal monsters for the animals we have in the great forest.
On the way back i spotted several monsters, Devil spiders, armored raccoon, a blade rabbit and a bicorn rabbit. The area held quite a good variety of monsters once you find the zone.
If Mavis moved here for about a week he could easily fill his dungeon with them.
I sketch them all and returned to town.
I found Rey holding the ruby gemstone which was releasing a faint glow.
Rey: 'How was i on your part?'
Theo: 'I spotted several regular animals species within 5 km east of Mavis. In the same area there is an animal dungeon with several species of monsters. Mainly tier 1 animal monsters. I only saw the first room so i can't be sure of all the inhabitants.'
I hand him the sketches. He passes me the gemstone and takes the book and flips through them.
Rey: 'Most rainforest dwellers. We will probably need Mavis to expand the forest as well to make a less dense forest zone for these animals. The ones in the forest already have some trouble adapting to the tight spaces. Might as well invest half of this MP for that.'
Theo: 'Did the girls find anything?'
Rey: 'Yes, a rather large list of all fish in the region plus animals. Monsters seem to be less common near this village do to their strength.'
Theo: 'So where are they?'
Rey: 'Copying the books.'
I frown hearing that. Scribes have a horrible job of remaking books completely, it isn't the most interesting thing.
Rey: 'Lets go back we need to hand this MP to Mavis so he can have the forests lake ready. Tomorrow the fishermen will be coming with a few of the elves. They will carry a large water bubble filled with the fish so we need that ready.'
I nod and follow them.

I was back to doing the same thing i did when studying to be a mage.
Writing. This time though it was more fun. With Julie next to me drawing the sketches of the animals while i copied its information we talked while working. It made things so much more fun.
The books held quite a large number of animals in the area. Monsters as well. There were less normal animals and more monster animals and insects.
The Devil spider was one. Its and aggressive spider that hunts alone but its effectiveness as a hunter is second to none. The threads if gathered make really good silk if processed right. Night vipers are some snake monsters that are most active at night but if it gets the chance it will attack during the day.
Both of these have deadly poison but are tier 1 monsters that live in rain and tropical forests. If Mavis bred some we could stare making silk to sell. Ahh thinking about the quality of magic robes can make has me drolling to get my hands on a pair.
Silk holds magic quite well which is why silk magic silk robes are some of the most sought after. Priest robes are all silk which is why even with thin armor they can have protection from the magic stored within them.
I also encountered a good book showing lots of produces you can produce with materials gained from the animals and monsters in the region.
We spent the day coping everything we could about the monsters. We will give it to Dalson later.
I wonder how he modifies the monsters. We never saw them since they are down either in his Lair or spawned behind the dungeon wall. I have a core so does that mean i can grow? I want to remain the same and be stronger like this.
Well its not like i will let them change me. I just happily copy the books deep into the night and come morning we get all books down and join the elves preparing the water bubble which is being filled with live fish of all types from as big as tuna to small crabs.
The are separate inside the bubble and kept apart so as not to eat each other.
There was probably five or six of each fish. In a small wooden cart was several large bags. When i asked i found out it was coral from a nearby reef where these fish came from. They will survive the trip.
When all the fish were loaded we set off.

Rey returned late last night with the gem. Draining my slaves and adding the MP from the villagers left me with a little over 110k. Quite nice i would say. The slaves we caught back then are kept inside a jail in the guild house now. They are made to train their bodies and minds everyday.
You would normally not train someone you don't want loose but they have very little MP so we trained them to increase how much i get. That is around 30k from the 10 magicians. Quite nice if you think.
Then again we have been hunting and feeding them meat from monsters with large amounts of MP.
Normally humans wouldn't eat dungeon monster meat unless you run out of supplies. The magic, like with all monsters, corrodes the mind but makes the person stronger. The reason we make the mage slaves train their mind is to fight the corrosion.
Meditation several hours a day so that they can keep the magic power in their bodies from running wild like in monsters which would cause mutations.
Me draining their MP also helps keep it under control. Think of it as using drugs then providing a temporary relief from their effects while making them stronger.
I won't give a feral rats ass if they mutate on the contrary, it will simply give me a new monster for my dungeon. No one asked them to come attack me.
Ok getting back on track, the MP i used for making the large lake. Because Rey said we would need a less dense area of forest as well as flat lands with few trees i dug out a large cave at the moment separate from the forest and then dug out the lake. It goes down 4 km and has a slight descent before a drop off half way.
This was to set up a reef. The room's length was 4 km by 10 km
The rooms ceiling rose up 200 m with the size of the room used. It seems the ceiling height is proportional the size of the room.
The reason i made a separate room was because i would be making a thinner forest before flat grasslands in between the lake and forest. The distance between both is nearly 10 km and in a straight corridor which will slowly be expanded to stretch the forest.
The lake had a 100 meter long shore in front of the corridor and along the wall. I will bring the lizards once the fish have grown into its habit. Adding predators is essential to keep a balanced system.
Two days i bet is all it will take before i bring them down.
In the morning the fishermen and the elves arrived. Milliana and Julie were carrying bags full of books which had me interested so i had them come over. It seems the book were for me and Dalson anyway.
To deposit the fish it would take a while to get it done. First i opened a portal into the lake room.
Everyone marveled at it. The room was obviously huge. The walls were originally blackish but when i made the underwater cave to lower the ground and make the water the ceiling sprouted blue gems which made the room a dim blue color which was reflected by the water. The dim blue light was reflected near the walls as a deeper navy blue which made for an interesting light show.
I had them dump all the coral first. They are living creatures at like trees and plants so i needed to set the bottom first.
The Fishermen really have good arms on them. They simply unfastened the huge bags and then a really bulky older man grabbed the open lid and spun the bag around several times gaining momentum before letting it go and sending it flying into the water.
They did that with the five backs. Then i added a bit of magic into the water and caused a whirlpool which removed the coral from the bag. It then had them hit each other breaking into smaller pieces which would spread over the reef area.
After a bit of letting the humans and others gaw at the spectacle i stopped and let the living rock pieces fall down.
I then filled the water with MP and as soon as the pieces hit the ground they anchored themselves and started to grow at a rapid pace. As the water surface calmed the others also saw the growing number of colors.
The light reflecting from the water slowly turned into a light greenish blue.
Mavis: ”You guys can dump the fish in. Once it’s done the fishermen who want to start dungeon exploring i will open an exit and reopen the first floor.”
Julie relayed the message. The fishermen started discussing what they wanted. Around 50 men from the village came. Ranging from men in their mid forties to young boys just hitting their teens.
There were 5 elderly men who wanted to speak with the human village about open trade so i opened a portal into the village for them and then one for the rest who would go through the dungeon.
I had Julie warn them that the monster races that say in the fifth floor also hunt monsters and that they shouldn’t attack them or the skeletons who keep the demon monsters from running wild.
With that set i liberated them to hunt in the four floors.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
