Chapter 16

Alex was startled awake by the sounds of the wolves growling. He jumped up off the table in the triage and ran to the front door. He rushed to the front door and opened it to see the wolves fighting something that resembled a bear but it was much bigger. It was standing on its hind legs swiping at the wolves that dodged swiftly. It was massive easily eclipsing 4 meters in height and probably close to 1000 kilograms. Alex pulled his sword and shield from his inventory and shrouded himself in his ki energy. Immediately he could feel the difference since his upgrade. Ge also noticed that his vision was now like a heads up display. As he looked at both wolves suddenly a wealth of information flooded my vision.

His HUD also showed his grey wolves with a green outline and the bear with a red outline.

Where is all of this information coming from? Is it from Alice’s upgrade? Can I assume green means friend and red means foe? No time to ask questions now. I’ll kill it first then think about what’s going on later.

Alex jumped into the fray yelling loudly. The bear’s attention moved towards him and the wolves quickly moved towards its flanks. Alex dodged the swipes from the bears menacing claws as he countered with slashes from his sword. Each attack barely penetrated through the bear’s thick black fur.

I have to find a place to do some damage to this thing. Its fur is so thick, I can barely do anything like this.

As soon as he thought about it small circles began forming on the bear’s body along with a detailed description of the bear like the one I saw about the wolves.

Man this is great! If my guess is right those circles are weak points on its body and if I attack them I will do the maximum damage. Now, I know about this thing and how I should attack it. It’s time to take it down.

As Alex continued to make cuts to the weak points on the bear’s torso the wolves nipped at its legs trying to bring it down to the ground. Suddenly, Alex felt the earth tremble a bit and he quickly told the wolves to move back through their neural link. The three of us jumped back and as they did, 2 earth spikes erupted from the ground piercing through the bear’s 2 hind legs. It howled in pain. This was his chance. Through his neural link, Alex told the wolves to attack. He followed closely behind them. They jumped and bit down on both of the bear’s front paws. With their weight they drove it to the ground. Alex jumped as high as he could and on his way down he put all of my weight into driving his sword straight through its neck. His blade met a thick tuft of fur at the base of its head and went straight through to the ground beneath. The bear had no time to fight or even let out a wail of pain. It died instantly as its head hit the ground with a splat. His wolves immediately began tearing at the dead bear's flesh.

“Stop!” Alex told them.

The wolves whined but they followed his instruction

He pulled out his skinning knife and drove it into the bear’s thick fur. It was tough going but with his strength, he was able to pierce through the iron like fur and cut it away from the beast. When Alex finished he had 6 pieces of medium hide leather and he found a sack of 500 coins. Alex gave half to Eve for her assist in the battle. Then he cut up the beast’s body leaving the torso for the wolves.

“Good job wolves!”, Alex said as he hoisted two of the beast’s legs onto hIs shoulders. "Now you are free to eat."

The wolves quickly pounced on the torso of the bear and began ripping apart chunks of its flesh. Alex brought several pieces of the bear inside and placed them on the table. He went back out and grabbed the rest from the ground and brought them into the kitchen as well. The wolves were content with ripping the bear apart. He noticed that they were both wounded but they were healing quickly.

“Alice, is that your doing?”

“Yes, I have the nanites within them healing any injuries that they may sustain in combat. They are a fierce tandem and it will take something very powerful to kill them.”

“Good. That is very good.”

Alex went back inside and washed off in the bathroom. Once he was cleaned up he went into his room and check the notifications that he ignored during his combat with the bear.

A.I. Companion has complete access to bestiary allowing it to show much more detailed information on enemies including weak points, level, status, weaknesses, and strengths. A.I. also is more powerful giving it a stronger signal to reach controlled technology in a 1 mile radius.

Ki Manipulation Tier II

Entering into 2nd stage shows that the user has purged all impurities form their body. This gives the user an increase in the amount of ki. Allows the user to visualize their ki and release it outside of the body. Ki replenishes itself faster. Meridians are now formed throughout the body. As they are cleared they will give the body increase in to various aspects of ones physical and mental abilities.

Nanite manipulation has increased in effectiveness and abilities. All nanites are evolved into more powerful entities. Can be combined outside of the body into a construct controlled by the user. Nanites require more power to manipulate but have new forms that can be explored by the user.

Increase in power usage by 50%. Efficiency increased by 35%. Controlling radius 2 km.

No wonder I felt stronger when I used my ki and I was so easily able to avoid the bear’s powerful attacks. Also all of that information was available to me.

“Alice, are you there?”

“Yes, I am here Spartan. How may I be of service?”

“Can you show me the status of anyone now that you have been upgraded?”

“No, I can show you the status of those relative to you by studying their bodies and movements. However, these readings may be inaccurate if we find someone who wants to intentionally hide their overall combat ability.”

“Well most beasts and monsters won’t do that so please keep information coming. It was a big help to me during combat.”

With all of the combat done, Alex figured he would train while he waited for Eve to cook breakfast. He walked into the training area to find that Bella was already working hard to improve her spear and axe combination. He watched for a few moments as her body moved gracefully through what appeared to be a fight between her and another enemy. She jumped, dodged, slashed, and rolled through a series of attacks and defensive maneuvers. She moved faster than Alex did but it was clear that her attacks lacked his strength. He also noticed a strange flicker of a bluish colored light surrounding her periodically as she moved. As he looked closer Eve showed him her stats.

As I thought her speed and reaction would be the highest but her physique is severely lacking. It would be difficult for me to hit her but if I did, the match would be over. I knew she was a beast tamer but I didn’t know she could use ki energy. I guess I should help her learn to use it. If she can become proficient at it that could increase my chances of survival. I will have to stay stronger than her though.

“Are you done staring over there? I hope you enjoyed the show?”, she said playfully.

“Well it was rather entertaining”, Alex replied.

“I wonder what was entertaining? My moves or well you know?"

Why am I always getting so flustered when she compliments or flirts with me. I had a wife. I have slept with a few women in my time. I can't keep being like this.

"I would say it was a little bit of both", Alex said nervously.

How did she know i was staring at her boobs the whole time. Well not the whole time but part of it. Is she just used to men staring?

"Well I’m finished for now. Do you mind if I watch you train?”

“No but the beginning of my training will be boring it is just meditation and moving my ki energy around.”

“I recently got ki energy too so that would be great to watch. Maybe I could learn something.”

“Here try reading this. I started training by reading this book”, Alex said handing her the book on Shaolin inner energy.

“Where did you get this?”

“I purchased it from the store.”

“Oh yeah that’s right. I had no idea you could find something like this in there. I gave up searching after looking through it for 2 hours.”

“Well my A.I. looks through it for me and finds things based on parameters that I give her.”

“That must be nice.”

“It is. Trrying reading it carefully and practice. I’m about to begin now.”

Alex sat down on the floor and began his meditation. As he sank deep into his subconscious it was just as the screen said his ki energy was no longer a floating ball but a serene lake. It was about 20 meters in diameter. He walked up towards it and put one foot in. The energy slowly wriggled up his leg. It felt very gentle as if it was giving him a hug. Alex walked out into the middle and found that its depth was only about 1 meter.

This is a huge increase from before but I was kind of hoping for more based on all the pain I went through.

As he walked back to the edge of the lake Alex could feel the energy pulsate as if it was waiting for something to happen. He walked away from the edge and then used his will to summon it to shroud his body. Instantly the clear blue water from the lake began to come toward his body. It wrapped around his legs and then crawled up his body. He could feel it empowering every cell in my body. The strength that it was bestowing upon him was incredible. He could feel the power pushing the very wind away from his body as he kept pulling more and more of the lake onto his body. Suddenly, the lake began to pull itself away from me. Alex refused to let it go and began crashing my will against it.

I will not let this power go. It feels too good.

On the outside Bella was watching but she had to stand back. When he began pushing the ki energy onto his body she saw a soft blue energy began to manifest itself around him. The energy enlarged his muscles and made him look even more imposing than he already did. As he kept pulling the energy in the muscles expanded even further giving him a grotesque-looking body with unnatural looking muscles. The muscles were so large that they looked like they would pop at any minute.

“Spartan stop this!”, Bella yelled.

Alex couldn’t hear her as he was deep in his meditation. Suddenly, in his meditation, a beautiful woman appeared before him armed with a shield and sword.

“Alice, is that you?”

“Spartan you must stop this! You are using too much energy at one time. It is damaging your body!”

“How? It feels so good. I feel so strong like this! I won’t stop! Those goblins, the rabbits, wolves, or even that big snake can't beat me with this energy."

“Then I will have to stop you.”

"How will you do that? I'm not the same as last time."

Alice rushed forward with her shield and sword. Alex saw her but she wasn’t as fast as she was before. He summoned his sword and shield as well. She slashed her sword diagonally but He blocked it with his shield. This time it was different physical abilities were on a whole other level. When he blocked her sword with the shield her arm was blasted up breaking her stance. Alex rushed in and kicked at her knee buckling her leg. He took the advantage and slashed towards her torso with his blade. Alice rolled out of the way and sprang to her feet throwing a jumping round house kick to the back of Alex's head. It knocked him face down into the ground. It infuriated him and he felt his ki pull back some more. Alex refused to let it go and he pulled even more in this time though it turned red showing his anger and rage.

“Spartan, please stop this! You are going to harm yourself!”

“No one is going to stop me from having this power! It is mine", Alex yelled in a guttaral

Is that my voice? It sounds different almost dark and demonic. What is going on?

“Your energy is corrupting your mind. You are stronger than this. Do not let the power you have rule over you!”

“Shut up! Nothing rules over me! I control it!”

“You aren't in control of it. Look at yourself! The reflection there in the lake, look at it!”

Alex looked down at his reflection in the water. He looked like a demon of some sort. His eyes had changed color from brown to a blood-red color and the white part of his eye turned jet black. His muscles had expanded in a grotesque manner. All throughout his body were veins showing the red ki energy coursing through.

“No! I won’t let it over take me! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

his muscle contorted causing all of his limbs to move into unnatural positions. Pain rushed through every part of his body sending signals to his brain so intense that words could not describe them. However, Alex refused to give up. He concentrated every last bit of strength and pushed his ki back from his body and towards the lake. His will crashed against the energy violently causing blood to come out through my nose, eyes, ears, and mouth.

“I will not… be overtaken….! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Suddenly, the ki energy stopped and in a flash it all returned to the lake, or ki reservoir, as he liked to call it now. Alex dropped his sword and fell backwards onto the ground. Immediately his muscles returned to normal size and his eyes returned to their normal color. The veins on his body were no longer visible and he breathed deeply showing his extreme level of exhaustion.

“What the hell was that?”, Alex said huffing and puffing.

“You were drunk with power. Feeling that type of strength is very intoxicating for people. It can drive you insane. You must train yourself to wield you full power but it should start slowly so that you don’t have another incident like this”, replied Alice.

“I understand. Forgive me for acting like that.”

“No need Spartan.”

Alex awoke from his meditation to find Bella cradling him in her arms. His head was being held gently in her ample bosom. She rocked him slowly back and forth and he felt the tears coming from her face.

“Bella”, he said as she looked down into my eyes. “Sorry for worrying you but I’m ok now.”

“You really had me worried there. What happened?”

“I took in too much energy at once and it warped my mind. My A.I. helped me come to my senses though and let me know that I should only use my ki a little at a time until I develop more control.”

“I’ll remember that in my training as well.”

Alex didn’t notice it right away but she was still holding him in her bosom even though she knew he was no longer in any danger.

Is she trying to let me feel her up?

“Don’t get me wrong I’m really comfortable right here but you can let go now. I’m ok”, He said.

She released him in a quick jerk realizing where she was holding him before saying, “I’m sorry… I didn’t… um…”

“It’s ok really. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. Besides, it felt really good”, Alex said with a bit of flirtiness in his voice.

She sat there and just stared at him for a moment before saying, “I have been in prison for a long time so I haven’t been with a man in just as long. Unfortunately after those goblins raped me I didn’t really want a man or anyone to touch me. Especially you after you kicked me out but just now I felt genuine concern for you. I held you because I wanted you to be ok.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make light of your feelings and I was really being honest. It did really feel good to lay on you like that.”

“It’s ok. I just want you to know that when I feel like I am ready for a physical interaction between the two of us you will not have to guess”, she whispered in his ear.

Then she softly kissed me on the cheek before she stood up and started walking towards the door.

Wow that was pretty straight forward. I guess soon enough things may get really interesting around here. Well now I’ve got the smithy built, the medical triage, training room, garden, and animal pen. Now all I have to do to ensure our basic needs are met is to capture a couple of those rabbits.

I tried to stand up but as soon as I did pain rushed through my body. Every muscle in my body was screaming in pain.

What the heck did I do to my body?

“Taking in that much ki energy increased your physical ability by nearly 3 times its current ability. Muscle fibers, ligaments, and tendons have all been ripped to shreds. You will need to get to the triage center to help speed up your healing process. It will take at least the rest of the day for you to recover.”

“Alice what can I do to prevent that from happening again?”

“You must train your mind as well as your body. You did not properly master the first tier of your ki manipulation ability before you raised it to the 2nd tier. By not properly training your body and mind you succumbed to the ki energy within you and it drove you mad.”

“So I was almost destroyed by my own power?”

“In essence, yes. You must control that power by accessing it of your own accord. Your ki is like a rushing river that has a damn in place to stop it. You must learn to open the dam as much or as little as you desire instead of doing what you did today and allowing the damn to open up completely.”

“I understand now”, He said to Alice through their neural link then he looked at Bella. “Bella, before you go can you help me to the medical triage center? I seem to have really injured myself with that ki energy fiasco.”

“Sure why not.”

She came over and tried to lift me but she couldn’t.

“How much do you weigh? I mean normally I can lift about 50 kilos and with my ki energy I can do at least double that.”

“Sorry with my physique being so high I weigh nearly 300 kilograms now.”

“What!?! How do you move so fast then? Your strength must be insane!”

“Well yes but I still need help. Even if you have to just drag me that is ok.”

“Alright.”

She grabbed both my arms and began sliding me across the floor. I held in the groans and cries of agony as I was dragged from the training room to the triage center.

“Thank you Bella. I just leave me on the floor in here and I’ll be alright.”

“Ok. I’ll bring you some food after Eve finishes cooking.”

“Ok. Thank you.”

Alex was lying in the floor in the medical triage center waiting as his nanites were rebuilding his muscle fibers, tendons, and ligaments. The whole thing was not as painful as he thought it would be.

A little later he saw Bella and Eve come in with food for him. He smiled and accepted the food.

“You really did a number on yourself didn’t you?”, said Bella

“Yeah I did”, Alex said. “It’s going to take a little while before I’m battle-ready again.

“Oh really? So you are basically defenseless now huh?”, said Eve with a smile showing her pearly white canine teeth.

“Well yeah I guess”, He said as I finished off the last few pieces of meat they had brought him. "I guess I still have the wolves and you two ladies to look after me in case anything happens."

“Well then what if the attacker was already inside?", said Eve.

"I don't quite understand what ....", before he could finish his sentence Eve began removing his shirt.

“What… what… what are you doing?”, I said nervously.

“Having a little fun”, she replied.

“I don’t think I’m ready to join in on this right now”, said Bella as she walked out of the room.

“Suit yourself. That just leaves more for me”, said Eve as she began rubbing her hands up and down my chest and abdominals. “My you really are ripped huh.”

“Umm yeah I guess.”

“Let’s see what else you’ve got”, she said as she moved her hands down to my sweatpants.

She unloosened the drawstring that held my pants up and then stuck her hands down my pants.

“Oh my you are a big boy! I will have lots of fun with you”, she said as she began stroking me up and down.

The feeling was amazing and I began moaning and groaning as she stroked. I felt that I was about to climax and the she stopped.

“What?! Why did you stop?!”, I asked.

“Oh that’s simple. I like to please but I also want to be pleased. So let me know when your body is more up to being a part of the action rather than laying there.”

“So you’re just going to leave me like this?”

“Well when your body gets back to normal finish it yourself. Oh and I’ll give you something to think about while you do”, she said as she stood in front of me and pulled her pants down revealing her ample backside.

Alex's eyes were as big as saucers as she bounced up and down shaking her juicy ass in front of me. Then just as suddenly as she revealed her well-toned rear, she covered it back up inside of her pants. He let out the loudest sigh any man has ever let out. She smiled and walked out switching her hips seductively letting him get another glance at her wonderfully shaped body.

Man, I really have to figure out what to do with these two women.

He stayed there and his mind could only focus on the bodies of those two women. Nothing he tried could get his mind off of them. He tried meditating and nothing happened. He tried to sleep and his dreams were fantasies about sleeping with one or both of them simultaneously. It was no use. He was horny as hell and he really needed to get laid.

Hours had passed before Alice talked to me.

“Spartan, you body’s repairs are finished. Your torn tendons, muscle fibers, and ligaments have all been repaired. You should be able to move as you normally do.”

“Thanks Alice”, Alex said as he stood up and walked out of the triage center.

Alex walked outside to get some fresh air. As he walked around the side of the house he noticed that the garden had already shown that some of the plants were sprouting up. He could see the beginning of all three plants. It was amazing that they grew so quickly.

They only have another couple of days before they should be ready. We need someplace to store our food. I need to check my income too because I need to keep a close eye on that as well.

The sun was still shining which means that he still have time to get those rabbits.

Alex ran back around to the main room in the house and yelled to the girls, “I am going to go try and capture some of those rabbits with my wolves. If you want to come grab your gear and come on now”

A moment later both girls were walking out of the door. They took off through the woods as they ran toward their regular hunting ground. Today it was full of those rabbits.

“You two wait here for and wait for me to call you”, I said to the wolves through our neural link.

The wolves sat down bending their hind legs. Their ears pointed up and they were licking their snouts. It was obvious that they wanted to eat some of these rabbits.

“Alright ladies we can kill as many as we want but I want to capture a male and a female. I will tell you which two to keep alive.”

The girls nodded and we began our attack. Alex looked around and saw screens pop up for each rabbit creature that I looked up.

“Don’t kill those two”, Alex said pointing in the direction of the two rabbits. “One is male the other is female.”

“We got it!”, said the girls.

“Surround those two rabbits but do not kill them!”, Alex said to the wolves through the neural link.

The wolves shot out like two black cannon balls towards the rabbits he wanted to capture. The girls were having no problems handling the other rabbits with Eve’s earth spike ability stopping the monsters in place Bella was able to skewer the heads of them each time she thrust her spear. Those that she couldn’t kill in one strike were bitten in the torso by Capone which allowed him to deliver his toxin. The toxin would eat away at the monster’s torso until it reached their heart killing them in seconds. Their combination of attacks was really good. Alex brought his focus back to subduing the two rabbits before him.

Alex rushed over and the male came forward first. Alex knew the rabbit's attacks were primarily going to be based on speed first so Alex tried to get a feel for his movements before he went on the offensive. It darted back and forth so fast that he had trouble following it with his eyes.

This really is my more difficult when I’m not using hypercognition but it is necessary for my combat strength. If I can beat them without it then I am that must stronger with it.

Finally, after trying to enter his blind spot the rabbit creature attacked. It opened its maw wide trying to bite down on Alex but this was an attack that he had seen many times and after seeing its movement speed repeatedly Alex now had a feel for it. Alex met its attack with his shield dealing massive damage to it. The attack was so powerful that he felt his shield crack. It flew back 4 meters and lay on the ground motionless.

“Did I kill it?”, Alex asked Alice

“No, It is still alive but that attack you just made used a small amount of your ki energy on it.”

“I did?”

“Yes your body may have instinctively done it but that is why the damage was so severe.”

“Good to know. Then that will be a goal of my future practice sessions.”

Alex jumped backward as the other rabbit dashed towards him and tried to swipe at his torso with its paws. The first paw missed and the second paw was unavoidable. He had to use his shield to deflect it. Even with the deflection, it felt like his arm went numb.

This thing doesn’t even have a high physique how could that attack be so strong? Is it the rabbit’s strength or is it that I’m not good with a shield or possibly even the fact that this shield is relatively weak? I don’t know I just need to focus on fighting.

Alex blocked two more swipes before jumping backward. As he jumped back Alex took another look at the downed rabbit. One of the wolves was standing over it growling.

It must be making sure it doesn’t move. Smart wolf!

As the wolf made space between Alex and the rabbit creature he saw the other wolf dart forward. As the rabbit moved towards Alex, the wolf intercepted it and smashed into it at full speed. The rabbit flew towards a nearby pile of large rocks and crashed into it hard. The rabbit fell to the ground in heap. It was unable to move.

“Alice status on the two rabbit creatures?”

“They are both injured but the injuries are not critical.”

“Thanks for the update.”

“Wolves, watch them.”

The wolves stayed in position over top of the rabbits refusing to let them move at all. Each time one of the rabbits would move even an inch the wolves would begin snarling and showing their fangs. Alex pulled up some of the rope he had tied around my torso and made two leashes for the rabbits. Once Alex put the leashes on he checked on Bella and Eve.

“How are you two doing over there?”

“We just finished collecting the coins. It totaled up to 700 coins”, said Eve.

“You can have 300 and we will both take 200”, added Bella.

“Sounds good to me. Give me a few minutes so I can skin and get the meat from some of those dead rabbits.”

The two girls nodded and Alex began skinning the more than 20 rabbits on the ground. By the time he finished, Alex had two dozen pieces of leather and 60 pieces of rabbit meat.

“Can either of you carry some of this meat? I don’t have any more room in my inventory.”

Both girls came up and took some of the meat and the leathers. Once they had their spoils, he pulled on the rope to get the rabbits to stand up. Immediately they tried to run off dragging me behind. They only got a couple of strides before the wolves knocked them to the ground and began snarling again. It took a few times of them being knocked down to get the rabbit creature to understand that it could not escape. Once the wolves had taught them not to try and escape, the rest of the trip home went pretty smoothly.

Alex walked around the animal pen with the two wolves leading the way. He led the two rabbits into the animal pen as soon as he did another screen up.

Ah… so I had to collect my own animals to put in there. Well, this may become a bit of a pain. I should at least go find some of those mutated deer. Then I could have two different types of meat to eat or maybe I could find some a cow or pig-like animal. Anyway time to go eat some dinner and rest for the night because it’s getting dark.

I walked with the wolves to the front of the house and told them, “Guard the house”.

After instructing the wolves on what to do I walked inside and sat down at the table to wait for Eve to finish dinner. Once she finished we ate with a little bit of simple chatting. I excused myself and took a shower before getting in bed.

No upgrades tonight so I should just have a good rest to relax and let loose some of my tension.

Alex closed showered then went into his room. His eyes began closing as soon as he laid on his bed. The bed was so comfortable for some reason. He felt as if it was made for him. It hugged every part of his body and made him feel like he was lying on a cloud. Alex smiled a bit and thought of the days that he had slept on the floor and the days that he couldn’t shower. The smile quickly faded as his eyes got heavier and his consciousness slowly faded away allowing him to enter a much-needed slumber.
