《This Kitty has guns》Chapter 31: Spirit of Knowledge
Advertisement
As I read the book, I learned that Spirits of Knowledge were old and powerful entities with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. It is said they already gathered almost all the secrets the world has to offer, and people who manage to offer something of value would receive an exceptional reward.
While they are rarely hostile to anyone, Spirits of Knowledge are known as the most powerful beings in the world. The book has described quite a few legends about their feats of power.
During Dark Ages, when Champions were still weak, the Capital of Lodelia has fallen to the monsters, and even new Capital Reikurius almost meet the same fate. When all hope was lost, a single Spirit of Knowledge entered the battlefield and a slaughter of monsters numbering hundreds of thousands has begun. The spirit didn't help out of goodwill, and it was all thanks to a young alchemist who offered his discovery in return for its help.
There was also a legend of wandering spirit that in a blink of eye slew elder dragon, all just to confirm a nagging question it had about their anatomy. After dissecting its body to state its curiosity, it left the corpse to the joy of passing caravan. It took them months before they managed to dismantle that mountain like body, and this was after they hired hundreds of people.
Today, many Spirits of Knowledge reside in libraries and mostly compete among themselves whose collection of books is bigger. While it doesn't guarantee they would help in case of war or uprising, any Lord would kill for a chance to have one in his city, only then he could be considered an influential figure in the politic. For this reason, they spare no expense, and any library with a Spirit of Knowledge will never lack funds. At the date of this book release, there were fourteen Spirits of Knowledge residing in libraries of Lodelia.
As for page thirty-six Agama has mentioned, it was a funny side story .. well, maybe not so funny for the author of book. It described how he was turned into a frog by a wandering spirit Eliada. And while it was only for a day, author cursed a lot, he had a hard time staying away from animals and birds trying to eat him.
"A bit slow aren't you?" asked Agama when I finished the book.
What does it mean slow? It was no longer than ten seconds! Normally it shouldn't be possible to read this fast.
"Anyway, I am very eager to know more about your class. While your friend Reveon .. hmm, maybe lover is more appropriate? I got only a glimpse of your activities in the bed, and I think this is the correct word, no? Should I call him Phoenix?" asked Agama while looking at Phoenix .. or at least I think it looked at him. It's hard to tell with a body like that.
"For you I am Reveon." said Phoenix with anger.
I can fully understand him, I wasn't pleased either it looked through our memories without permission. At least now, with our mental resistance at a maximum level, something like this should never happen again. I quickly gave the book to Phoenix, so he knows what we deal with as well. I am confident in my abilities to fight even a dragon, but I feel I would die in a second if I ever picked a fight with this spirit.

"He was slower to raise his mental resistance, so from his memories, I managed to learn a bit about your class, sadly some details still escaped my grasp. Could you help me to fill the gaps?" continued the spirit.
"Why should I do that? It was a theft when you peeked into our memories without our consent." I asked while trying to remain calm.
"Ah, this troublesome etiquette again. It is so annoying. I am not asking to do it for free. We always offer a compensation. Or do you think that all those people from the book had mental resistance? Power, knowledge, money, even my personal aid. There are many things I can offer in return." said the spirit.
"What do you want to know?" after thinking a bit I finally asked.
"Describe with every little detail your battle against wolfs in the forest. And don't worry, I made sure no one will hear us. We might allow people to enjoy our books, but we like important secrets staying as such." answered Agama and I noticed that I couldn't hear a single sound from around us.
*
"Interesting. So basically all of it was because of enhanced mind." said Agama after I finished with the story.
"Huh? What do you mean?" I asked surprised.
"Conditions to obtain Reaver class are those: one - you have to be of a beastman or beastkin race, two - to kill with a skill 'dragon claws', and three - before reaching level five, mind power has to be the highest stat." explained the spirit.
"I see." I said while remembering the reaction of Phoenix when he noticed my mind power for the first time.
Come to think about it, before obtaining my class, I never gained mind power from leveling up.
"While in theory, it is possible for some beastman or beastkin to learn 'dragon claws', even if they put every attribute point into mind power, before reaching level five, they will never have it higher than other stats. It's no wonder there is nothing know about your class, conditions are almost impossible to meet." continued Agama.
I said nothing and just eagerly awaited for my reward.
"Hmm, my knowledge about your class is still incomplete, I can only guess what skills it receives from level twenty and above. Would you like to raise the value of knowledge offered to me? Each time you gained a new skill from your class, you would visit me and demonstrate it a bit. Of course, I can offer you a reward here and now, but it will be lesser in value compared to what it could be. The choice is yours." said the spirit.
"Just curious. What would you offer if I choose to take it now?" I asked the spirit.
"You could pick a few things from this." said the spirit and a large list of glowing words appeared in the air.
Raising levels of existing skills, increasing stats of your choice by hundreds, changing a gender or even race. There were many ridiculous choices. From the list 'dragon breath' and 'petrifying gaze' attracted my attention.
What would I get if the value of offered knowledge was even higher? My desire was ignited and I looked at the spirit with greedy eyes.

"I would like to increase the value of my offered knowledge even further." I said with a grin.
He he he. Can't wait to see what I will get in return for all the knowledge of my old world...

Grrr! Stupid Champions! I cursed in my mind while trying to think of something those bastards haven't revealed yet.
Champions from the past weren't a problem, they were summoned ages ago and their knowledge should have been mediocre at best. The problem was Champions of today, while I am sure they can't remember even a fraction of what's really important .. sadly they and don't have to. Heka, the Spirit of Knowledge in the Capital, did that in their stead.
"What about nuclear reactions?" I asked with hope.
"Already know." answered the sphere.
Uhh! This mental resistance! It would be so much faster if Agama could just look at my memories directly...

After I somehow managed to scrap something for the deal with Agama, we started reading various books in the library. It was time to fill all the gaps in my knowledge.
I learned that in the continent of Griffus, our Lodelia Empire has three neighbors: the Kingdom of Toludan, Dynasty of Asari, and the Kingdom of Arcalean. In the past, there were more of them, but majority fell during Dark Ages, and their territories become part of those who remained.
Dynasty of Asari is our neighbor to the West and almost sixty percent of its lands is a desert. Majority of its inhabitants are beastmen, a race rarely seen outside Asari. Beastmen are very different from beastkin race, as only their shape reminds a human, their body is fully covered in fur, and their head is just like of a lion. The picture of beastman reminded me some lion variant of a werewolf. Hmm, a werelion?
While the climate here is harsh, lands of Asari are rich in resources and a large number of caravans always travel through these lands.
To the East, we have the Kingdom of Toludan. Just like in Lodelia, none of the races have superiority in numbers. But even then, Toludan is always ruled by a minotaur. Every few years they hold a tournament where the winner can challenge the king for the throne. Only King Deimor is recorded to die from old age, as most sooner or later meet their end in the tournament when the opponent is too strong or they simply can't keep up with their aged body.
After his death, King Deimor became a legend among minotaurs and even today most know his name and talk about him with awe. Needless to say with time tales have become exaggerated: four meters tall, could tear chains made of mithril with his bare hands, and often killed his opponents with a roar alone.
Then to the South, we have the Kingdom of Arcalean. Elves here are a majority in number, almost by threefold. A long time ago only elves lived there, but with Dark Ages, all has changed, just like everywhere else.
From multiple sources, I found that Sile'dur family was once very powerful here, and had high influence in affairs of the Kingdom. Three hundred years ago most of them were killed after a plot by their enemies. Only very few of them managed escape to Lodelia and Asari.
After Dark Ages there were no wars, some small skirmishes yes, but they never go beyond that. It's all because of dungeons. In a war, the losing side would have no manpower to spare for the dungeons, and in time, monsters would start to amass. It might be very dangerous if after a long battle you have an army of monsters to deal with, especially when there are dungeons within your own territory and they can't be left unattended.
Next, I started reading everything there is to know about different races, monsters, magic, known skills and classes, a history of the continent and politic, and even a bit about Goddess herself.
Some nobles started shaking their head when noticed that every book would be placed back after flipping its pages for a moment. After a little less than a thousand of books, I was confident that the basics should be covered.

After we left the Library, next stop was our workshop. After reading a mountain of books, Phoenix was eager to try some enchantments.
On the way, I noticed that a human dressed as a servant was following us. As we made a detour to the back alley, our friend for some reason didn't follow. What a pity... I wanted to 'gently' question him about his motives.
Once at the workshop, I forged few clasps for Phoenix to play with and started to produce raw mana potions while he was busy. After Phoenix obtained enhanced mana regeneration, the speed at which we fill potions with mana has increased significantly. This is probably the only product of alchemy I don't need synthesis for. Though after I learned Space Time Magic I am no longer hesitant to use it, I can simply summon what I made to my dimension without any need to 'vomit' it.
I also thought for a solution how to dissolve the paralyzing gas in the air after a battle. With the help of synthesis, I made gas that reacts with some components of paralyzing and makes it inert. Few grenades with it should be enough. Normally, we shouldn't need them, we can just release it through our pores. I am such a good girl, I care about innocent people who might be affected. Well, Kilmor was already paralyzed once, but that's just a minor detail.
As there is no assault on assassins, we can join Tia tomorrow. I wonder if they will agree to visit the fourth floor? I am very interested in finding formida.
It's time to head back. From all this reading my body is itching for some action. Since no one bothered attacking us, I will leave that role to Phoenix. Should I just ask him to lunge at me or should I attack him myself? Well, we will see how it goes once I equip my best underwears...
