《A World of Monsters》Chapter 54

Kiran’s gaze fell on the reflection of the rising sun and the red hues that painted the morning sky. He closed his eyes as a cool morning breeze caressed his skin and a slow smile formed on his lips.
Ting.
Kiran’s eyes remained closed but his eyebrow’s furrowed as the familiar sound fell in his ears. His calm mind pondered but the white-clad man couldn’t think of anything that would cause his Status to change. Thus, with his forehead scrunched in thought, the bald man opened his eyes to read the notification.
As he read, however, his eyes widened and his pupils dilated. His face paled as the blood drained while his heart raced as his breathing hastened. Goosebumps erupted all over his body.
His bald scalp went numb.
His limbs trembled. His body shivered.
He stared at the notification.
The white-clad man fell to his knees but didn’t dare to dismiss the notification. He didn’t dare take his eyes off of the ethereal window. He didn’t dare move. He didn’t dare breathe.
His heart suffocated, paced. His lungs congested, his chest ached.
This could not be happening.
He stared. He saw. But he didn’t understand. How?
He knew the words. He comprehended their meaning individually. Yet, he couldn’t acknowledge the meaning they imparted when combined.
He stared. He saw. But he didn’t understand. Why?
He didn’t understand. He couldn’t understand. He refused to understand. For what the words conveyed could not be true.
This could not be happening.

‘T-this cannot be happening!!’ It absolutely couldn’t be happening! Kiran refused to believe it.
But no matter what the white-clad man thought, the notification remained within his vision, blue as all the other ones. Innocent as all the other ones. Yet, mortals are but mortals. No matter their delusion or their rejection, they can’t change the truth. And the truth of the matter was that Kiran’s Level had been decreased.
This development signified just one thing.
The man, Kiran, who had once been an adorable little boy, had strayed from his path. He had strayed so far that his Class, [Shishya], the Class that was known to regress, had regressed.
He had known that such a thing could happen, of course. But never even in his wildest dreams had he imagined that it would happen to him. For never in his life, had he considered the possibility that he could stray away from his path.
Or that he had already strayed from his path.
The mere thought had been inconceivable. Yet, that unthinkable thought had manifested into Reality.
Kiran tried to get up but the shaking of his limbs caused him to stumble and fall. His body trembled from shock.
He continued to stare blankly at the notification for a few moments more before abruptly dismissing it. And just as abruptly, he stood up with his fists clenched and teeth grinding against each other.
He had been abandoned.
His nostrils puffed and his breath came in short bursts. His body burned as he felt the blood flow past his ears and heard the sound of his own heartbeat; the sound of it clearer than crystal.
He had been betrayed.
His face was twisted into an ugly sneer. ‘This! After years and years of sacrifice and sweat, this!’

19 years.
19 years of hard work. 19 years of sacrifice. 19 years of joyless existence. 19 years of fruitless drudgery. 19 years of loveless imprisonment. 19 years…
He couldn’t bear it. His heart suffocated and his chest congested.
He had started on this path when he had been mere 12 years of age. And now at 31, he had failed and reached its end. He had spent more time walking on this path than off. He had started at 12. He had barely been self-aware then.
For almost all the time that he had been self-aware, he had lived on this path. And when he had not been on this path, he hadn’t had much awareness. And now, his path had been lost. His journey had been ended. His life itself had been ended.
He couldn’t bear it. His breath came in short, fast. It was difficult for him to breathe.
Everything he had done, it meant nothing anymore. Everything he had suffered through, it meant nothing anymore. Everything he had sacrificed, it meant nothing anymore. All his efforts, his hard work, his sweat, his blood, it all meant nothing anymore.
He couldn’t bear it. The world began to darken and the edges began to blur.
And then his heart shattered.
No longer could he walk down this path ever again. No longer would his Class progress ever again. And no longer could he be an ascetic ever again.
At that moment, the hair that he had sacrificed long ago, began growing. It grew from dead follicles to long strands in but a moment and it continued growing. It grew so fast that the growth itself was visible.
His face, that had never had a single strand of facial hair on it, sprouted moustache and grew a beard. And they kept on growing. They grew until they had reached the middle of his chest.
His hair, meanwhile, had not stopped. It grew and it kept on growing. It grew past his shoulders. It grew past his waist. And it grew past his knees. It grew until it almost touched the floor.
Kiran looked down at his hair and clenched it roughly in his fist. He stared at it for a long moment. This had been his first sacrifice and it had now been returned to him.
But the 19 years that he had given to the path, they were gone forever.
He held up his beard, something he had never had before. And at that moment, he vowed; never would be cut a single strand of his hair. For they would be the reminder of everything he had lost.
He let his hair fall but, at that moment, the words of that woman resounded in his ears.
“SOON! It would be SOON!” Her raspy voice roared and Kiran felt her throat vibrate in his mouth. “You will come before me and I will laugh at your FACE! You will try to hurt me and I will laugh in your FACE! You will use me and I will still laugh in your FACE!”

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

Deviant's Masquerade: The Huntsman's Quest (An Urban Magic Quest/RPG)
Jon Whitaker went to summer camp expecting a nice relaxing time as a newly minted counselor in training. He was not expecting to fight an army of monsters, work with a serial killer, enter a one-sided friendship with an eldritch horror, or study under a competing witch and dark lord. But regardless of what he was expecting, his summer is over and he's made his way back home where he can try and return to a normal -for him- life. Too bad life rarely goes as expected. --- Please Note: This is forum quest/RPG I run in the same city/setting as my other stories Hacking Reality and Get Ink'd, meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.

This is the collection of all harry potter character's (except the marauders, who's book could be found on my profile) one-shots I've written over time ;)I know this used to be an exclusively the weasley twins one-shots book, but I didn't see the use in creating a separate book for other characters.
