Dust to Dust: Monster 01
Voices
-
A light breeze flowed through the still forest, rustling the evergreens as it passed. Hanging on to a lower branch with all its might lest it be blown away is a rabbit form dust golem. With a body barely registering on a scale, it wouldn't take much to end the recently liberated creature's life.
-
Following the light breeze, something else followed. Sound. Rythmic bass with lighter, dissonant tones from a couple different sources. Footsteps, and voices. Large. Dangerous.
-
The dirt hare huddled down by the tree it was using as support, waiting for the threat to pass, ears perked up in rapt attention at the transgressors now coming into sight.
-
"The blood trail ends here, check the clearing." The first voice, loud and boistrous, rang out into the previously tranquil woods.
-
"Found the body, nothing on him. I'll grab the ear for proof, let's get back before it gets too dark to get out of this glade safely." The second voice, quiet and reserved, seemed to calm the rustled atmosphere.
-
The first voice came from a different location this time without the rabbit even noticing its movement. Extremely dangerous, too dangerous to risk movement. "Looks like the kid used the goods to summon a golem. Poor idiot, maybe if he'd stolen food instead of magic supplies we'd get to go easy on him."
-
The companion responded in his soft, controlled tones, "Theft of anything, even as worthless as these supplies, can't be tolerated. Not anymore. We're all in this together, and we can't tolerate anyone that doesn't understand how to work for the greater good. Grab the supplies and let's head out."
-
The sound of ferocious laughter crashed through the forest, "Hah, the supplies are worth less than the dirt they stand on now, they've already been used. Looks like the lowest golem ritual, copper core. Not even worth tracking down for that crappy of a core. It'll deteriorate soon anyways without its mana supply. "

"A full loaf of bread on our return then, my treat. And wine, to forget today." The quiet voice, with a semblence of a waver in it.
-
"Haven't had a full portion since I can remember, don't have to share anymore. Grab the ear and let's head out" Strong vibrations, anger, force, getting steadily quieter, farther away.
-
The worst threat gone, the rabbit slowly unclenched his petrified body, at least what he thought was his body. It seemed to stick to the dirt around him, parts falling off and attaching at random.
-
As he gazed over a small hill at the base of his guardian tree, he gazed upon an upright slender figure, which then kneeled down at the side of his deceased Master. It bent over, held him, and a solitary sob racked its frame. It pressed its mouth to his Master's cold forehead, and two sounds were heard. One, a wet slice, accompanied by an ear falling into the slender figure's hand; and two, a faint sound of a wet smack where the figure's mouth met his Master's forehead.
-
The slender figure, gazing one last time at the boy on the ground, faded into the woods.

Okay, depressing stuff is over for now. I -swear-. Maybe.
It's time for actual progress in this, the shortest arc of this story (gotta get to the meat of the story as fast as possible, heh. As much as I love the monster viewpoint, there are bigger and better things to come.)
I'll have another chapter or two out today.
You like the short chapters? Or would you rather I wait to release more at a time? I can definitely understand that. I just like getting progress out there as I write it.

When he returned to the World of Martial Arts, the game was filled with blood and battles! Chen Kaixin had chased after the footsteps of the one emperor, two empresses, three princes, seven dukes, and thirteen aces for three years, but during the eve of the Sword Among Us tournament in Mount Hua, he was ambushed by evil bastards, and was killed so much that his level dropped to that of a newbie. He completely lost the chance to join the ranks of the powerful players in the game! In great disappointment, Kaixin quit the game and got drunk so that he could forget his sadness, but during that stormy night, Chen Kaixin found that he had actually dreamed for a total of three years, because when he woke up again, he woke up to three years ago, when he was still a student.

I am merely a reviewer, albeit the products I review are slightly different. For example, I review quantum computers, artificial intelligence, anti-gravity mech armor, planetary engines, sublight colonial ships, stellar detonators, etc… Chen Yu: “The technological product I bring to everyone for today’s episode is—a dual-vector foil! W-Wait! Everyone, please calm down! Let me explain…”
8 1070The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?

For Kill Death aka KD it’s a rock ‘em sock ‘em good fight to grow stronger. And together, Haru and KD will fight monsters, find loot, meet colourful characters and go on adventures as… City Goons! New chapters every week on Tuesdays and Fridays for now! The story is episodic, with about 4 chapters per episode. So if you like a Saturday morning cartoon, this story is right up your alley.
