I walked closer towards the wall. The hanging cloth was rather attractive that I got a weird feeling rising inside my chest just from looking at it. But before I could even use my inspect skill, the Chief spoke. "This is the reason why they will return. This thing here raises my mood and sometimes makes me fierce. I'm definitely sure that they forgot to bring this with them and will come back for this." I nodded my head and used inspect. "INSPECT" EMBLEM: AZKATHO KINGDOM BANNER (COMMON) - A banner with the 3 colored triangles forming a trapezoid of the Azkatho royal family. The triangles symbolize hierarchy. The blazing red color in the middle symbolizes courage and bravery. Its blue color on the left symbolizes peace and tranquility. The green color on the right symbolizes prosperity and fertility. A common yet popular banner made by the citizens of the Azkatho Kingdom. AF: Increases fighting spirit slightly. There were lots of new words that I find hard to understand so I used my analyze skill a multiple of times. "Analyze Emblem" "Analyze Kingdom" "Analyze Banner" "Analyze Color" "Analyze Triangles" "Analyze Trapezoid" .... .... .... After I finished inspecting and analyzing the cloth that was in front of me. I got excited. The word Kingdom is a human thing where they have a King that will rule over all the other humans who lived within the King's territory called Kingdom. 'So this hamlet is called the Azkatho Kingdom,' I said as I made a conclusion. I wonder where the King and all the other humans went by leaving their kingdom empty. There were no traces of battle, the situation was so weird so I decided to think about it later. I looked at the Chief who was clearly waiting for me. "Chief this thing here is called a Banner. That attractive thing in the middle of the cloth is called an emblem. That emblem thing belongs to the Azkatho Kingdom which we are currently occupying, that means that thing in the cloth is a mark and a symbol of their territory." I explained my findings in a simple and direct manner. The Chief still has a question mark hanging over his head so I added. "They abandoned their kingdom Chief, that means we can make this area our new territory" The Chief nodded his head as if indicating that he got my point, he then said. "So will they return or not?" It seems like the Chief was still worried about those humans coming and getting this banner thing, well I can't blame him since he only thinks for the benefit of the horde so I will try and erase some of his doubts. "I do not know if they will come back or not but I am definitely sure that if they do, it's not for that thing," I said as I pointed the banner. "How can you say that Fig? This thing seems to be important, my gut is telling me that they will come back for that." "The analyze skill told me that this thing is common and can be found anywhere around the kingdom." *ZAP!!!! A strong realization hit me. Since this item was common then we should have found them everywhere in this kingdom/hamlet. Then why is it that the banner was only placed within the Chief's dwelling. "Chief we are in deep trouble. Those human Kingdoms are probably huge and this hamlet is not a kingdom and is only a part of it." With a worried look, the Chief responded. "Why are we in deep trouble? Stop being mysterious and directly tell me Fig." The Chief was getting anxious since he trusted me so much and my words have already saved the horde a multiple of times. "If they return, they would probably attack us on the spot. If those humans discovered that a part of their territory is currently being occupied by another race then they should be enraged. Plus the missing people who used to live here might misunderstand us as invaders making the situation more complicated since we have no information about those humans or even their numbers but there is one thing that I am sure of Chief." "And what's that?" Sweat started to gather on the Chief's head. "We will be annihilated," I told the Chief my heartfelt thoughts. The Chief was shocked about my prediction, the belief that we were now stronger than we used to be was true but us being stronger than those humans who were our predecessors was so wrong that just thinking about it reminds me of the bloody battle against those goblins. The thought of the power of that Goddess who recently descended and those humans who were actually descendants of said Goddess scares me to death. When you think about it, we were used to be raised by those humans. "Are they that strong, I don't believe you Fig, that old man in our old place was not that strong looking in my opinion," The Chief who recovered from his shock tried to calm down and think things thoroughly. "I know nothing about their physical strength Chief, they might be as strong as those goblins or stronger but that's not the reason why I said that. They are smarter than us Chief and that's scary, think about it. I'm not saying that we were smarter than those goblins since we defeated them, but what I'm trying to say is that the human King might not be as stupid as that Goblin Chief and also there are things that can make the situation more difficult than it already is. Things that I am referring to are those so called "weapons" that the goblins were using. Did you saw them, right? Those things the goblins were carrying?." The Chief nodded his head, he too was thinking about using weapons even before the mutation. So how can he not know about them? "Then what about human weapons?" "How can you be so sure that those humans have weapons and stuff?" The Chief keeps on denying reality but I am not gonna blindly believe that they don't have one since they can even make more complicated stuff like this house we are currently in. "Just look around Chief," I said as I started to move out of the Chief's dwelling. When I was near the exit, the Chief spoke in a hurried voice. "We can't afford to move Fig, the Hogs are still adapting with their new limbs and also those pregnant sows, we couldn't just leave them here and if we bring them, they will only slow us down when we start to move." The Chief followed me out of his dwelling with a perplexed look. "Then we can only do one thing Chief." END FIG POV>

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
