《From Beast to Man and Back Again》Ch.4 I'm king of the ring

It stinks in here. This is the perfect opportunity to test out using my second mana for multiple things. I'll use it to clean out our new cave.

.....

It took us five months to be able to hunt the deer to satisfaction. Together they can take on a herd of twenty deer, and individually the wolves can hunt three deer at a time. By the time they managed that I was able to defeat a boar, which is the next strongest spirit beast. The problem with hunting boar is that their skin is super thick and tough. The wolves couldn't cut through it. It's a good thing that my training had started to show results. The wolves had started to, just barely, sense their own second energy, so I started teaching them how to use it. Light and Laughs, that's how I refer to the two strongest now, picked it up very quick and started hunting the boars with me. The other wolves were slower at learning. Now they can sharpen their claws, reinforce their bodies, and harden their tails. It's very useful. Those were the things my mother first taught me, except that I have nails not claws. I can control my energy well enough that I can throw up a shield with it, and I've started adding elements to it. It mainly just changes the color and other little things. It's not that useful yet, but it will be great eventually.

It took five months until we could easily hunt the boars. They are big and slow. The only real problems are the strength of their charge and their tough skin. We mange to cut threw those problems quickly. The only reason we took that long was because the wolves needed to be taught how to use their second energy. The wolves strength is in their agility. If you can't catch them you can't hurt them, and their good at migrating damage. The next opponent were bears. They took us only a month. There aren't very many bears in any given area, but we hunted down all we found. Including the lord of this ring. It had bright yellowish brown fur and was half a size bigger than normal bears. I beat it down with only Light and Laughs helping me. The bear is smelly, but has strong flavor. I leave most of it to the wolves.

It's cave is really ideal. Its wide and spacious, a river is just a few minutes' walk away with edible plants growing in and around it, and the clearing is surrounded by different fruit trees. Moss grows on the walls inside and glow gently at night. It's even better than the wolves cave, so we're moving in. The only problem is it stinks of the bear. I grab some tree branches and have the wolves use them to sweep out the bears poop and the bones of its prey. Bringing dead bodies into your home is really gross. For my part I give my second energy wind element, the one I'm best with, and force the smell of the bear lingering in the air out, fresh air takes its place. Pure energy is easier, but elements don't take as much. The amount isn't a problem for me though so I just use what's most convenient. Now the cave is all clean. It's dark out so we go to sleep. I'm getting stronger, just wait for me mother.

.....

Now that we've conquered this ring we need to train our control of second energy. The next ring has monsters. I know because I checked it out. Although they aren't all stronger than the spirit beasts in this ring they all have some amount of intelligence and use weapons. My mother has shown me weapons before, but she didn't let me hold them. She says they let the bipedals do more damage. I'm a bipedal to, but she said that I'm likely to hurt myself with them, and so won't teach me more about them until I'm older... All the wolves can use their second energy to some degree, but they're sloppy and waste a lot of it. I'm better then them and only small amounts escape me, but I can improve. I have the wolves try to bring it out of their bodies and it looks like steam is floating out of all of them. Hehe, it's silly. Speaking of looks, all the wolves are grayish white now, and there fur is starting to develop a silver hue. They won't be spirit beast until they are completely silvery white. Colors are a sign of second energy. The rabbits had red horns, the deer were green skinned, and the bears had yellow faces. My plans always work. Focus, I always get distracted. For my training I'm making shapes out of my energy, and trying not to let any escape. We practice until noon because stomaches start growling. We need to hunt. We head to the deer area. We catch and share five deer for lunch. I gather up some fruit to eat too, but the wolves aren't interested in them. I eat them by myself... After eating we go to the rabbit fields, I got a training idea. I'm going to gather up a lot of rabbits and have them surround us. The goal is to dodge all the attacks...and not get in each other's way while doing so. It's harder than it sounds. The rabbits hit everyone a few times, but there are no injures. We reinforced our bodies so that it wasn't dangerous. The only thing bruised from this exercise was pride. We start toward our cave early. He didn't see us, but a strange old bipedal is coming toward the mountain. I was halfway down to the base, picking fruit when I saw him. I had left the wolves training without me after the first hour. I can tell that he is much stronger then us. Even if we work together we have no hope of beating him. I ran back to my pack, and we headed back to the cave. I don't won't to get involved with him. It's getting late anyway. We catch a boar to eat and then go to sleep in the cave. A full stomache gives me a warm sleepy feeling. The wolves curl up around me and we all drift asleep.

.....

The sound of rocks skittering wakes my pack and I. There isn't anything that lives in this ring that would come near our cave. I stand up and creep toward the entrance with my pack following behind me. When I see what is this there I'm annoyed. That old guy really did come here. He's sitting in front of my cave, and even has a small fire going. Why!? What's he even here for. Geh, he's looking this way!
