《How to get lost: a wanderers guide》Move along, nothing to see here

Hello again. My days searching the great blue continue.

I make a point out of giving any villages I come across the ole evil eye, and extract what may be a promise to get along with their neighbors from them. For these small villages in such bountiful areas to be fighting one another is just foolish in my mind.

They have plenty of food and room, so what are they fighting for? Old slights? Dumb pride? Sheer bloodymindedness? What a waste of life. I hate it.

I leave statues and smokestacks behind me, but it is starting to feel more and more like a futile gesture. I barely remembered to do it on the islands I visited yesterday.

Still did though. Who knows? Maybe it'll actually work. Saw some ships from the tribes on Rendezvous Island today. They have taken to marking their sails with one of two symbols. Red wings, or a purple eye. I guess they are my most obvious characteristics. I saw the sailors on the ships waving and cheering below me, so I gave them a wave and a barrel roll before moving on.

Five more islands today. Five more sets of statues and smokestacks. Five more tribes who I made promise to get along with my evil eye.

I wonder if they will follow through with that promise? It isn't like they have a clear understanding of what I want from them. I just repeatedly point towards a neighboring island and clasp my hands together until the sweating and shivering chief or elder or whoever nodds desperately. Then I fly off.

Not super clear, but the language barrier is a thick one. They do seem to pretty much share a language, so they should be able to have peaceful exchanges.

Is it worth it? Am I making a difference by telling them to get along while they cower and shiver in fear of me?

I don't know. But it does make me feel like I am doing something. And I need that.

Dinner is fish and fruit. Again.

I have some rum to make things more interesting.

The huge bonfire I made makes it hard to sleep what with all the light and heat. But it calms me. Looking deep into the flames I remember other nights, other fires. Better times, with laughter and fights and friends.

Goodnight.
