Chapter 35

I ended up giving in to Arnies requests and gave him some more of my saliva infused with mana so that he could run some more tests on it. I told him to not let any of the test subjects live for too long. If he accidentally creates something extremely powerful it might cause a few problems.

My mood was drifting a little back to my easily angered self so I finally did the repairs to Arias dress that I had put off. Working on the dress helped me feel relieved. Eva has offered her many new dresses, but most were declined. Aria likes to wear the dress I made for her whenever she can so she kept the number of outfits she has at three. She alternates between these three outfits and always seems happiest on the day she wears that red dress I made.

A month passed and I continued training with the new recruits. I'm currently considered Grand Knight rank and wear blue armor even though these ranks are usually decided based on how skilled the knight is with their aura magic. Since I can't use aura magic my trials to rise in rank are a little different.

The knight captain didn't make another mistake when creating my purple armor which I didn't keep for every long. I was asked what kind of design I wanted when I ordered my blue armor. Apparently all knights get a basic armor design until they reach the rank of Grand Knight then you get to pick whatever you want. I decided to only protect my upper body since any armor on my legs or feet slowed me down and this time I didn't get a helmet.

(Armor)

Spoiler :

Apparently once you reach the rank of High Knight they make your armor out of a specific metal. Initiate knights get leather armor, apprentice knights get iron armor, knights get silver armor and everyone above that rank wears armor made of the same metal. This metal changes colors and hardens when mana is injected into it during it's creation. It's color and hardness depends on the amount of mana poured into it.

If one person dumps all their mana into it then it turn purple and becomes twice as hard as silver armor. If three people dump all their mana into it then it becomes blue and three times as hard as purple. If eight people dump all their mana into it then it turns green and becomes six times as hard as blue. The last color is red and it requires twenty people to dump all their mana into it then it becomes ten times harder than the green armor.

Currently I was sitting alone in the middle of the same field we train in everyday. I was practicing an ability I got during my trip with Gideon to exterminate the chimeras. There were actually two abilities I got during that trip, but I hadn't had the chance to try out the one I got from the chimeras yet.

Becket:"Finally!"

After all of my failures I was finally able to active the ability pyrokinesis. A small flame danced on my right thumb. I made it leap from finger to finger in order to test my control over the flame. It did whatever I imagined and I could even increase its size so I sent a couple fireballs into the air as a test.

Becket:"I can't wait for a chance to use this!"

When I found out magic existed in this world the first thing I thought of was shooting fire. I was quite excited that I actually could do it now. Playing around with the flame and imagining how I'd use it made me feel like a kid again which was actually felt good. I had my vampire eyes activated so that I could see the heart beat of anyone trying to approach me. One heart beat was steadily making its way toward me so I made the flame disappear.

Becket:"What are you doing out here princess?"

Eva:"I came to see you Sir Becket."

I stood up to greet the princess since remaining sitting while she was standing would be rude.

Eva:"There's a ball tonight. I'm sure you've heard already."

Becket:"Yes I have. Aelisia said I'll be working security."

All knights were told about the ball tonight. It will be filled with many nobles so extra precautions need to be taken to ensure their safety. This ball is being held to try and repair some relationships. Felix had recently squashed a rebellion and some of the nobles tonight were known to assist the rebels, but since there was no proof nothing could be done against them.

Eva:"You're going to be my personal bodyguard tonight. Since Felix was my fiancée I may be targeted now that he's dead. Also many nobles will be trying to push their son into becoming my new fiancée since whoever I marry will become the next king. I want you to protect me from people after my life and my hand."

Becket:"So I should stick close to you."

She smiled.

Eva:"Yes. You're actually going to be my escort to the ball. We've already prepared your outfit."

Becket:"I doubt anything will happen with Aelisia around."

Eva tilted her head.

Eva:"You haven't heard? Aelisia won't be here tonight."

*She didn't say anything about not being here?*

Becket:"Why?"

Eva:"Some villages were being destroyed so she's traveling to them so that she can find out what happened. It should take her a day or two."

Becket:"Why didn't she say anything?"

Eva:"Maybe she forgot to tell you."

I let out a sigh.

Becket:"I guess it doesn't matter. Knowing why won't change anything."

Eva:"Your clothes have already been brought to your room. Make sure to tell Aria not to come out tonight."

*Am I going to have to dance?*

Becket:"Ok."

I nodded.

Eva:"Well I need to go prepare. I'll send a maid to come get you when it's time for us to join the ball."

Becket:"Alright then I should probably start getting ready soon too."

We ended our conversation there and set off to get ready. Aria and I were given access to the guest bathhouse, but Aria mostly took baths with Eva in the royal family's personal bath. After washing up I went back to my room and found my outfit laid out on my bed.

(Outfit)

Spoiler :

The suit fit very snugly to my body and I put my armor on over my coat then hung my sword at my side. I had been looking into this worlds clothing industry to see if they had any techniques that didn't exist in my world. I was always interested in learning new styles so that I could incorporate it into my own while making clothes.

This world turned out to have a surprisingly advanced clothing industry. I was expecting medieval level techniques, but they are completely capable of creating modern clothes. They even have zippers; however, they aren't popular. Apparently a noble boy had an accident with the zipper on his pants and they ended up banning zippers. The ban was eventually lifted, but zippers are still unpopular.

I decided to wait for the maid to come get me so I sat down on the bed. After a few minutes Aria showed up.

Aria:"Wow! You're all dressed up!"

Becket:"Yeah. I'm escorting the princess to a ball tonight."

Aria:"A ball? What's that?"

Becket:"You've never heard of a ball?"

Aria:"Nope. What is it?"

Becket:"It's a large party filled with food, music and dancing. Do fairies not have dances?"

Aria:"Not really. We do have the summer festival though."

Becket:"Summer festival? I've never heard of it."

Aria:"Thats because it's a fairy festival. We are the only race that celebrates the summer festival."

Becket:"So what is the festival about?"

Aria:"We celebrate the coming of summer. All the fairies gather to watch pairs perform the sky dance."

Becket:"Thats sounds like a fun festival. I'd like to see it someday."

Aria:"Since you've got wings we could do the sky dance together. It's almost the end of summer so we still have a while before it's time for the summer festival."

Becket:"Well that gives us time for you teach me the sky dance."

Her face lit up with joy.

Aria:"I've never been more excited for the sky festival. I learned the dance, but I've never actually been a part of it."

Becket:"Then I guess I'll get to be the first person you sky dance with."

Aria:"Not just the first. You'll be the only person I'll ever sky dance with."

Becket:"Why's that?"

Before she could answer a knock came from the other side of the door. When I opened it a maid was standing there.

Maid:"The ball has already started. It's time for Princess Eva and her escort to make their entrance."

Becket:"Alright."

I turned around to look at Aria.

Becket:"I've gotta go now. Stay inside the room tonight ok."

She was still smiling.

Aria:"Got it!"

She jumped back onto the bed and started rolling around.

*She has so much energy.*

I turned back to the maid.

Becket:"Alright lead the way."

She lightly bowed then spun around and walked away. I closed the door and followed after her. Eventually we met up with Eva who was dressed in a lovely gown.

(Gown)

Spoiler :

Becket:"You look absolutely beautiful Princess Eva."

Her checks went a little red then she turned her face away from me.

Eva:"Y-You too look very nice."

I stretched out my hand towards her.

Becket:"Shall we enter now?"

Eva:"Lets."

She took my hand and we faced the large double door in front of us. There were knights positioned on each side of the door and they began to push it open. I braced myself since you never know when an attack may come. The light blinded me for a few seconds before the dance hall came into view.

Eva and I were standing at the top of a staircase with a red rug on it leading down to the dance floor.

Knight:"Introducing the first Princess of Druusell Lady Evalyn Gale Esyn and her escort Sir Becket Edwin."

A knight introduced us to the crowd of people standing around on the dance floor. I gave the room a quick scan looking for anyone that could be a possible threat. The floor and walls were pure white while the curtains hanging in front of the many windows were golden. There were many large paintings that decorated the walls and four glass doors that lead out to a wrap around balcony. Tables covered in food were lined up against the walls to make as much room on the dance floor as possible. The last thing I noticed was a large glass chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Gideon was positioned near the queen who was having a conversation with some noble. We descended to the dance floor were a crowd of young noble men were waiting. It was obvious that they were all aiming for the throne. Seduce the princess and they'll get to be king were probably the thoughts running through their heads.

I emitted a little blood lust at them which caused them to scatter. Learning to control and sense blood lust was probably the hardest part of Aelisias training. She said it's useful for feints during a fight. According to her, warriors use to rely on blood lust to sense incoming attacks. I also found out that magic didn't always exist in this world.

The story on how magic came into existence was lost with time just like the techniques used by old warriors. Blood lust is the only technique that survived however it's not widely known. The man that taught her how to use the sword also passed this knowledge down and she told me that she's never run into anyone else that knows about it. Her, Gideon and I are the only ones left that know how to use blood lust.

Becket:"Would you like to dance?"

Eva:"I'd love to."

We walked out to the middle of the dance floor. Most of the crowd spread out so that we would have plenty of room. I wasn't amazing at dancing, but I knew enough. My dynamic vision really helped keep me from messing up. Everyone in the room knew I was male because of what I was wearing along with the fact that I was escorting the princess.

During our dance the noble men I frightened off earlier came back. They probably realized I was an elf which lessened their fear of me. After our dance she had to go around and greet guests so I followed her around all night. Most of the nobles just ignored me while she greeted them which angered me a little, but I quickly got use to it. When she had completed her duties I took her out onto the balcony since she wanted some rest.

Eva:"I never did like these formal parties."

Becket:"Well you've only got another two hours until the party ends."

Eva:"It'll probably take awhile for everyone to clear out even after the party ends."

She sighed and leaned against the balcony's rail. The sun had already set so she looked towards the moon. I stood beside her silently and suddenly I felt blood lust. Normal people wouldn't be able to feel it unless the person emitting it wanted you too, but I had become sensitive to it thanks to my training with Aelisia.

Becket:"Move!"

I grabbed Eva and leapt backwards away from the balcony. The spot we were standing in suddenly collapsed. It looked like it collapsed for no reason, but I knew it was in purpose.

Becket:"Are you alright?"

I looked down at Eva who I was cradling in my arms.

Eva:"I'm fine."

I looked around for whoever attacked us, but say no one. The other knights including Gideon quickly crossed the ballroom and made it to us.

Gideon:"What happened?"

Becket:"Someone attacked the princess, but they seem to be gone."

Gideon:"Did you get a look at them?"

Becket:"No."

A bright white light started to illuminate our surroundings. All of the knights including Gideon and I ran to the edge of the balcony to see where the light was coming from. Down below us was the garden and carved into the ground was a pentagram with a circle around it. Along each line of the pentagram and around the circle were words written in some language I didn't know. Even my language comprehension magic couldn't understand it.

Gideon:"It's a summoning circle!"

Some of the knights started to panic when they heard Gideon.

Becket:"What's being summoned?"

I yelled to Gideon.

Gideon:"I don't know, but judging from the size of the magic circle it's huge."

I looked back down at the glowing magical circle.

*How did no one notice this giant thing being carved into the ground?*

The light suddenly intensified so much that everyone had to close their eyes or look away. The next second sent a chill down the spin of everyone present. A deafening roar and shattering glass rang in our ears. When I opened my eyes I couldn't help but gasp. Standing in front of me was a white dragon nearly as tall as the palace.
