Chapter 20
Aelisia led me to a different part of the castle. We walked for a while then went up some stairs and now we were standing in front of a wooden door. There were no designs on it, but I could tell the wood was high quality. There were two guards standing in front of it wearing blue armor.
Aelisia:"She's right in here."
She gripped the door knob and pushed it open.
Aelisia:"After you."
She stepped aside to let me go in first. I glanced over at her before entering. Immediately I recognized the room from my first few minutes in this world. It was the same one I first woke up in. I noticed the curtain I had taken was replaced. Before I could think about anything else someone's head rammed right into my stomach making me fall back onto my butt.
Becket:"Uh!"
I let out a weird sound because of the sudden impact then looked down. I saw a head full of white hair buried in my stomach.
Becket:"Aria?"
She looked up at me with slightly watery eyes.
Aria:"Becket."
Becket:"What happened to you?"
I was confused since she wasn't tiny. I couldn't quite tell how tall she was since we were both currently on the ground, but she was a lot bigger than 6 inches.
Aria:"Look Eva gave me this!"
She pulled out a necklace she was wearing. It was the one with the white stone that I took from Felix. It must have been taken away after I killed him and passed out. Eva decided to speak since she saw the confusion on my face.
Eva:"That artifact increases the users size by 10 times."
Aria let go of me and jumped up onto her feet then spun around.
Aria:"Isn't it great!"
Her wings were lying down against her back, but shot up because of her excitement. I stood up and gave her a pat on the head which made her smile. She seemed to be around 5 foot tall.
Becket:"So you wanted to see me."
I directed my gaze at Eva who was sitting on the side of her canopy bed in a yellow and white dress. She had a smile on her face as she looked back at me.
Eva:"Yes I did. Aria, Aelisia could you two wait outside please?"
Aelisia:"Sure."
Aria:"What! I don't wanna!"
Becket:"Aria give us a few minutes."
Aria:"But something always happens to you when you're not around me."
*What does she think she's a good luck charm?*
Becket:"Nothing's gonna happen this time. I'm not getting into a fight or anything. We're only having a chat."
Aria cast her eyes down and spoke with a low voice.
Aria:"Ok."
Becket:"Thanks."
Aria left the room with Aelisia.
Becket:"Ok so what just happened with the king was that your doing?"
Eva:"There's no need to worry about that. It was bound to happen at some point. He may have been my father, but he was a terrible person. Mother will handle his funeral."
Becket:"That guard of yours sure is something. She had a room full of top class knights afraid of her."
Eva:"That's because she's a Warlord. Of course they would fear her. You can't even be considered human anymore after you reach that rank."

Becket:"I see."
I snook a glance at Aelisia who was still standing at the door.
Eva:"First I would like to thank you for killing Felix."
Becket:"I wanted to kill him anyway."
Eva:"I'm sure you have some questions about why you're here."
Becket:"Listen there's something I need to tell you. I'm not the same guy..."
I decided to tell her I wasn't the same Becket, but she interrupted me before I could finish.
Eva:"How are you liking this world?"
Becket:"Huh?"
Eva:"Is our world a lot different from the one you came from?"
Becket:"Wait you know?"
Eva:"Of course I did. I helped bring you here after all."
Becket:"Why didn't you say anything when I first got here?"
Eva:"I had to feign ignorance or else you would have stayed to try and get answers. Esyn told me to do it that way."
Becket:"Who's Esyn?"
Eva:"A god."
*Another god. What the hell do they want?*
Eva:"Esyn had to set up some important meetings for you so she needed you to think I didn't know anything since it would affect your actions."
Becket:"What do you mean? Explain properly."
Eva:"I'll start over. I've been in contact with a god named Esyn ever since I was a child. She would show me dreams of an elf man who she said I would marry one day."
*Dreams again.*
Eva:"She told me that her rebirth depends on our union. Apparently the gods have lost most of their power and decided to reincarnate, but sadly no one in this world is capable of having a child that can hold their souls. Your soul was brought here because it has the capability to do it."
Becket:"So I was brought here to create new vessels for the gods?"
Eva:"Exactly. The gods selected many girls that could possibly give birth to a gods vessel and they need you to impregnate them."
Becket:"What? I was brought to this world just to make kids? What was stoping you from telling me this when I first got here?"
Eva:"Esyn told me that in order to ensure the best possible future things had to be done this way."
Becket:"So what? They can see the future?"
Eva:"Esyn can see the different possible futures. Nothing is set in stone, but she wanted you to save Aria and establish the connections you currently have. If I would have admitted to you that I knew something the future wouldn't have gone the way she wanted."
Becket:"So everything I've done and everyone I've met was set up by her?"
Eva:"Yes."
I wasn't really sure how to respond to that so I decided to move on to my next question.
Becket:"Ok so why am I in this body?"
Eva:"Becket is a descendent of one of the gods, but blood relation only offers the chance to achieve god like power. The problem was they needed a body without a linker."
Becket:"Linker? What the hell is that?"
Eva:"It's what they call the other half of your soul. Everyone's soul is linked to another persons only the two halves usually live in different worlds and inhabit different bodies. Becket was your linker so his body easily accepted your soul. If we would have tried to use another persons body it would have rejected your soul."

Becket:"So what happened to Becket?"
Eva:"He's dead. Usually if one half of the soul dies its linker dies with it, but when you were at deaths door on your world the gods had me pull your soul over to this world. When you entered Beckets body his soul was already gone."
She stopped to think for a moment.
Eva:"Another way to explain it is both of you died, but instead of moving on your soul was pulled back into Beckets body and you were revived. Becket your linker stayed dead though. Since you have no linker anymore your children will be born without one too so the gods will be able to easily link to them. They will be able to take the bodies of your children in a similar way to how you took Beckets except they will fuse."
Becket:"Then why did they pick out the girls for me?"
She giggled.
Eva:"They obviously don't want to be born into weak bodies so they picked people with power in their blood."
Becket:"And you're one of them?"
Eva:"I may not be powerful, but my children will be a different story. I'm actually a descendent of Esyn the god."
Becket:"What if I decided not to do it?"
Eva:"Why wouldn't you? They're offering you a harem."
*Hmm. I really don't have a reason to deny it.*
Becket:"So I'm free to do what I want as long as I have kids with the girls they pick?"
Eva:"Well it would be best if you had as many kids as you possibly can even with women that the gods didn't pick since it's always possible a random woman could give birth to a child one of the gods can use. They'll also need you to do some other things for them too. Lets call them missions."
Becket:"Like what?"
Eva:"I wasn't told. You will be contacted by them personally and given your missions, but they likely involve directing this world into the future they want. There's no telling what they may ask you to do."
I sighed.
*So I'm a servant of the gods. I wonder what these missions will be like?*
Becket:"So what am I suppose to do now?"
Eva:"For now you will be a guest in the palace until your name has been cleared as a criminal. It shouldn't take very long and one of the gods should contact you soon."
Becket:"Well can I get something to eat? I'm starving."
*I need to get something to eat and process everything she just told me.*
I was still trying to organize all the information I just got.
Eva:"I can't have the cook make you anything right now since the whole palace is probably in a panic with the death of the king, but I can have some snacks sent up to you. I'll have Aelisia escort you to your room."
Becket:"Thanks."
Eva was quiet for a minute before she stood up and walked over to me.
Eva:"It's nice to finally meet you."
She hesitantly reached her hand out and touched my cheek then smiled. She whispered to herself.
Eva:"It's not a dream this time."
Her hand was slightly trembling.
Eva:"When I was performing the ritual to pull your soul over here I felt a little bad for Becket. I talked with him a lot. He seemed like a nice man, but I knew he wasn't the person I saw in my dreams."
Becket:"How?"
She gave a radiant smile.
Eva:"Woman's intuition."
She wrapped her arms around me and laid her head on my chest. I put my arms around her and gently stroked her hair. I still wasn't sure what I planned to do from now on or if I even wanted to go along with these gods, but I did know that this girl needed someone to lean on right now. My parents had a strained relationship at times; however, they always loved each other and I always secretly wanted a relationship like that. I had never felt it in any of my relationships so I gave up a long time ago, but maybe I can find it in this world.
Eva:"I was scared last night. Felix attacked me."
Becket:"You don't need to worry anymore he's dead."
She let go of me and stepped back.
Eva:"Oh yeah there's something else I should tell you."
Becket:"What is it?"
She leaned in close to my ear and whispered to me.
Eva:"I'm still a virgin."
Becket:"Huh?"
I knew it would be a little rude, but I felt compelled to ask.
Becket:"What about the fact that you were naked with Becket when I first woke up?"
Eva:"That was part of the ritual. We didn't have sex. Well you were the only one who actually had to be naked, but I decided to make your first few moments in our world an interesting one. Esyn thought it was funny."
She covered her mouth with her hand and giggled.
Eva:"Ok I've got to go now. Mothers going to have to announce the death of the king to the people so I need to be there."
She walked over to the door and opened it.
Eva:"Aelisia bring Becket to his room."
Aelisia:"Sure thing."
Eva:"Also get him a snack."
Aelisia nodded.
Eva:"Well good bye Becket. Until later."
She left with the two knights that were guarding her door.
Aelisia:"Come with me Becket."
Aria was standing next to Aelisia who led us to a different part of the palace.
Becket:"So that's an interesting sword you have."
Aelisia:"It's an artifact."
Becket:"Could you tell me about the weapons Felix used during our duel?"
Aelisia:"They were twin artifacts. Like all artifacts we found them on the dark continent."
Becket:"The dark continent huh."
*So the guns weren't made they were found.*
Becket:"Since I'm gonna be locked up for a while could you get me some books to read? Specifically about geography, philosophy, economics and history."
Aelisia:"I'll send a maid up to your room to deliver your snack so just ask her."
Becket:"Thanks."
*There's likely a trove of knowledge in the books here. I'll need it if I've gotta permanently live in this world.*
I was given a room half the size of Eva's, but still much bigger than the room I had at the inn. There was a single bed with white sheets, a desk, chair, wardrobe and a window with wooden shutters. Aria ran in and jumped onto the bed.
Aelisia:"If you need anything else ask the maid when she delivers your snacks."
Becket:"Sure."
She nodded then closed the door as she left.
***************Gideon POV***************
It wasn't easy, but I've finally found the vampires base. I wanted to show mother that I can handle this alone so I sent all the knights under my command back to the palace. I have to prove I'm ready for the rank of Warlord. Mothers trained me for years yet she still tells me I'm not strong enough for that title. Today I'll prove to her that I am. Today I become a Warlord.

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
