Chapter 5
Becket:"If you want to kill him go ahead. I can't stay in this room."
I was covering my nose while I left the room and made my way back to Aria. Since my senses were enhanced I could smell a very powerful scent coming from the vomit. I could deal with the other stenches I've come across so far, but vomit wasn't something I could handle as easily. I did try to bare it, but I had to give up. Arias little head was pocking out of the bag.
Aria:"Can I talk now?"
Becket:"Sure."
I picked up the satchel and headed up to my room.
Becket:"I wonder if vomit smell sticks to wood."
This building along with all the others in this part of town are made of wood and are at most three floors. During the morning the streets outside are fairly empty, but in the afternoon they become so full of people that it's hard to walk. The numbers thin down to a moderate crowd as it gets closer to night. It's more lively and it's easier to pickpocket so I decided to set the afternoon as my money collecting time.
I entered the room and set my satchel down. I pulled each of the items I bought out and organized them into groups. There weren't many choices at the market, but I found some things. I found what appeared to be a tomato and carrots. They were both blue so I wasn't really sure if they would taste the same. I bit into the carrot then the tomato.
Becket:"They taste exactly the same."
They tasted completely normal. I then picked up this strange apple looking thing. It had a stem growing from two ends and was a mix of green and red swirled around on it. I took a bit and juice sprayed out. It was delicious, but I had no idea what it was. I was surprised that such a poor looking market place would have such juicy food.
Aria:"I want some!"
Becket:"Do you know what this is?"
Aria:"Those are Dylios apples."
I gave her a quizzical look.
Aria:"Do you even remember who Dylios is?"
Becket:"So Dylios is a person?"
Aria:"Not exactly. Dylios is one of the seven gods that came to our world and gave power to the people."
Becket:"God? There are seven gods?"
Aria:"Yes. Dylios is the god mostly worshipped by the dwarves. This fruit was named after him since according to legend they sprouted up were ever he went. They're abundant in the dwarven continent and their juiciness made them popular with all races."
*I wonder what other kinds of food this world has.*
I broke off a piece for Aria and handed it to her.
Becket:"Thanks for the information."
She smiled happily then devoured the piece of fruit. So far food seems to be similar to my old worlds food with some new things which excites me. I traveled a lot thanks to my work so I've gotten to taste all sorts of foreign food. I'll be looking forward to finding a more expensive market to shop at. I recognized the different flowers I passed by on my way here so plants seemed to be similar too. This was a good thing since I planned on testing something's out. I pulled out one of the seeds I bought. The person who sold it to me had no idea what kind of seed it was so I have to figure it out myself.

I wanted to test my nature ability so I pulled out a cheap clay cup I bought earlier. I had already filled it with dirt so I pushed the seed into it.
Becket:"Grow."
I said in a commanding voice. A flower sprouted out and fully bloomed. I pinched the stem to break the flower off and held it in my hand.
Aria:"What are you doing?"
Becket:"Experimenting."
Aria:"Oh! Are you going to make that flower dance!"
Becket:"No."
Aria:"Why don't you try making it dance."
Becket:"Could you be quiet for a few minutes. I need to concentrate."
Aria:"You're always telling me to shut up."
Becket:"I promise I'll start working on that dress as soon as I finish this experiment so please be quiet."
Aria:"...ok"
She glided over to the chair and landed on it. I went back to focusing on the flower and I suddenly felt something being pulled from inside of me. It made me jump a little so I dropped the flower which then stabbed into the wooden floor stem down. I picked it up and noticed how hard it felt. A second ago it was a normal flower now it felt like metal.
Becket:"What the hell?"
I touched the stem that stabbed into the ground and it drew blood.
Becket:"Ah!"
I didn't expect it to cut so easily. How did I do this to the flower? I dumped out the dirt in the cup onto the floor and pulled a handful of dirt I had in my satchel out to fill the cup. I made sure to get enough dirt for a few experiments before returning to the inn. I found another seed that looked like it was the same one and pushed it into the dirt, but this time I left my finger in it still touching the seed. I closed eyes and I focused like before without trying a vocal command this time. I felt something being pulled from inside me and my finger started getting pushed up. When I opened my eyes I saw the same flower as before, but with a slight color difference and fully bloomed.
I tried to pinch the stem, but I couldn't break it.
Becket:"Interesting."
I decided to stop here with the experiment. I put the flower next to the bed and dusted off my hands. They had a little dirt on them I brushed them against my pants.
Becket:"Ok I'll start working on your dress now."
Aria:"Finally! New clothes!"
She flew up into the air and spun around in joy. I pulled out the curtain robe, my knife and a sewing kit I bought. It wasn't hard to make the precise cuts using my knife, but I was worried about how it would look and hold up. I was using high quality fabric for most of the dress, but the stitching that will hold it together will be low quality. I worked very diligently to connect each part of the fabric perfectly. I don't mean to brag, but I've been told the clothes I make are pieces of art. This may have come from anonymous people online that browse my secret sewing forum.
I finished the dress after several hours and noticed Aria was sleeping on the bed beside me.
Becket:"What happened to this bed being nasty?"
I stood up and stretched my arms and legs then set the dress next to Aria.
Becket:"Lets go see how goatee guy is doing. Oh! I forgot his name is Gene."

I quietly left the room and made my way down stairs. Gene wasn't at the counter so I went to the room I left him in. I found him sitting there alone.
Becket:"What happened?"
He turned and looked at me with sad eyes.
Gene:"I tried to convince her that things would get better, but she didn't believe me."
Becket:"What happened to those two."
Gene:"I let them go. I couldn't bring myself to kill her or him. I'm to much of a coward to take a life with my own hands. I gave her the money she wanted and they left."
Becket:"Some people just aren't killers. You did what you felt was right."
I began to pat him on the back again.
Gene:"Thanks. I really did love her more than anything else, but I guess that wasn't enough. Love is a weak emotion. It can easily be made or broken."
Becket:"Not for everyone. Some people never lose their love."
Gene:"I hope I'm not one of those people. I don't think I could live with this crushing feeling."
I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him up.
Becket:"Lets go out tonight and have a few drinks."
Gene:"I don't think I'm in the mood to drink."
Becket:"Well I feel like drinking and I don't know any good places."
Gene:"There's one place I know that's good, but it's for men. You probably wouldn't like it there."
I thought to myself for a few minutes. Gene felt like a good guy and I wanted to make a contact that I can trust so I decided to gamble and trust him.
Becket:"I didn't tell you before, but I'm actually a guy."
Gene:"With a pretty face like that......."
He stopped talking since I had dropped my pants and revealed my proof of manhood.
Becket:"See."
I pulled my pants up.
Becket:"Lets go out tonight and have some fun."
Gene:"Wait! You're a boy! But you have breasts!"
Gene put both his hands on my chest try to feel for breasts.
Becket:"It's just a chest plate."
He kept feeling around so I had to smack his hands down.
Becket:"So what do you say?"
He stopped to think for a few minutes.
Gene:"Well I guess I do owe you my life so I might as well get to know you better. Lets do it!"
Becket:"I have to run up to my room to get something's."
Gene:"Ok I'll get some money and wait out front."
I ran up to my room to grab my coin pouch. I pushed the door open and saw Aria had changed into her dress.
Aria:"Becket it's wonderful!"
She flew around the room at incredible speeds.
Becket:"Calm down."
I walked over to my satchel and took out my coin pouch then fastened it to my belt.
Aria:"You going somewhere?"
Becket:"Yeah. There's someone who needs cheering up."
Aria:"Why bother?"
Becket:"Because a local can be useful in certain situations. If I can make a trustworthy friend then more paths will open for us."
Aria:"I don't understand what you mean?"
Becket:"All you need to know is he might be useful at some point."
Aria:"Fine, but I'm coming too."
Becket:"No not tonight."
Aria:"Then bring me something back."
Becket:"Sure."
She seemed a little angry about being left behind, but she was a little more obedient.
*Maybe she's getting use to listening to me.*
I found Gene outside. He placed a no vacancy sign on his door before we left. It was late in the afternoon so streets were starting to thin out. He chose the place since I had no idea where to go. It had a large blue sign that said Ice Hole. Somehow they kept it pretty cold inside which felt great since it appeared to be summer outside. It had three floors, but only the first was used for drinking. There were about 15 tables inside and only three were empty. It smelled like alcohol, sweat and vomit, but they must have a pretty good cleaner since the vomit smell was weak. Body odor wasn't something I had any problem with even with my enhanced sense of smell.
They had young women bringing the alcohol to each table. They were all fairly attractive even though they were obviously from poor households. After a few rounds of drinking and chatting which mostly consisted of him telling me his life story I noticed some of the women who were delivering drinks going upstairs with some of the men.
*So this place is a brothel too.*
The three floors made sense to me now. The women probably use the rooms on the other two floors to service men. I felt bad since some of the girls looked really young, but it was just one of those things that I couldn't do anything about so I tried to ignore it. After a while I had to act like I was still drinking since I didn't want to spoil Genes fun or get blackout drunk. Honestly I'd love to drink until I pass out, but I can't afford to lose my wits in this world.
The door slammed open and three guy in silver armor walked in. I started to remember something when I saw them. The men that attacked me when I woke up wore similar looking armor except theirs was brownish. I hadn't gotten a good look at the guards patrolling for me so this was the second time I could really see the armor. I could only tell this armor apart from normal armor worn by commoners since theirs had a triangle engraved in the chest and seemed to be much higher quality. I had assumed the triangle meant they worked for the royal family. They stepped in and the room went quiet.
Knight:"No need for silence. We're here to drink!"
People:"Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhh!"
All the people inside the bar cheered. The knights found a table which was fairly close to Gene and I. They were talking about something so I focused my hearing to try and pick up their conversation.
Knight 1:"We better get all our drinking done today cause tomorrow it'll be nothing, but training."
Knight 2:"Fuuuuuck. Why does she have to come back now. I thought she retired."
Knight 3:"She did try to retire, but a Warlord will always be given work for as long as they're alive."
Knight 2:"Isn't she like 85?"
Knight 1:"Yeah, but she can still defeat entire armies alone. The Warlord rank isn't anything to scoff at."
Knight 2:"I know but she's such a bitch. It's always train train train. If only she could have found a man while she was young than maybe she wouldn't be such a cunt."
Knight 3:"Wait I thought she had a son?"
Knight 1:"He was adopted. They aren't actually related by blood."
Knight 3:"What's he like?"
Knight 1:"Everyone seems to think he'll be the next Warlord."
Knight 2:"Shit. So the next ones going to be just like the current one. That's fucking terrible news."
Knight 1:"Well they are strong."
Knight 2:"I need to have some fun tonight since we'll be locked in training for a while."
The conversation then drifted off to which of the girls here they planned to have fun with.
*I wonder what a Warlord is?*

8 259The Watchmen - A Horror Novella
The paper Kate found while rummaging through her old college work looked like some silly poetry. Just out of college, she landed a dream job in the game industry, and moved to a new city. She couldn't believe her luck! But there's something very odd about the piece of literature. There's numbers that keep changing daily, almost like a countdown.

8 112Dana and The Legend of Apollo and Daphne
She is the reincarnation of a Greek god's former lover. Did anyone bother to tell her? No... at least not until the god shows up at her door.I couldn't explain his features any way besides perfect. He was probably the most handsome man I had ever met. Something about him was familiar, as though I had known him for years. One hand still grasping mine, he moved his other into my hair, stroking softly. His warmth surrounding, his touch calmed me.I couldn't move. I could barely breathe. My mind was blank. It was like nothing I ever felt before. I was lost in his eyes, in his warmth, in the feeling that I was safe. At that moment I wished to stay forever. I also knew better than to remain here. However, my muscles went numb under the warmth of his hands. I couldn't move.I layed there him stroking my hair in shock for what in my head felt like forever. Eventually, he leaned down and spoke into my ear making my whole body shiver."My dear, I have waited for this moment for years," his voice was beautiful, strong and warm. Like the wind on a summer day. He had humor in his eyes and I found it extremely unsettling. There was something off about his tone. Almost like I was dreaming, but I knew it wasn't one. Something powerful and dangerous was in his voice... Ohhh no! This wasn't some random mortal standing over me. This.... this... this was a god...Credit to Rick Riordan for building such a wonderful world to put stories into and creating some of these amazing characters.
