《Greenskin》Chapter 27 - Greenhorns and Gold

Steal wasn't sure what he was expecting, a bloodbath perhaps? it might certainly have been a fun show if Kor'Ak had ran through the girl on the spot.
Dissapointedly to the goblin, he did not, instead, he went to walk past her, merely trying to make his way to one of the Adventer Guild Clerk's desks on the other end of the room. The staff were visibly tense, watching the events in front of them unfold, some of them ready to duck down behind their desks, a few ready to burst forwards and interrupt any fight that may occur.
Steal's head turned for a second as a bell behind him dinged gently, indicating that someone had entered after them, the goblin looked at the man take in the scene before him, then very slowly edge back out of the building.
ding
The front door closed again.
Kor'Ak continued to walk towards the counter, only now about to pass by the most confrontational adventurer. Steal hurried his pace along to keep close enough to Kor'Ak that he could dive behinf him if things got bad, even though the goblin couldn't understand their words, he still felt threatened, perhaps it was their angry tones, scowling faces or maybe just Kor'Ak's dreary silence as he took another step.
The girls's hand shot out, not sliding the blade fom it's sheath, but instead grabbing the walking-fortress of a man by the shoulder. Admittedly she could just barely manage to reach his shoulder. If there was one thing this adventurer was, it was brave. Probably also stupid.
"Didn't ya hear me Djaal? I said get the fuck outta here. Now!"
The braver of the clerks in the back looked about ready to intervene.
The adventurers around the table moved as well, the stew-sipping holy man looked upwards, sullen eyes and a gaunt face observing the confrontation carefully.

The chainmail wearing warrior moved by the girl's side, and the caster simply sighed before speaking. His voice was light, playful. Perhaps he was younger than even the girl. "Ryder, Sam, sit down, look at the tag on his neck, I don't care if you've got a problem with a Djaalic, plenty of people do, but I do care if the iron-ranker fucking beheads our parties warrior and ranger"
The young girl tried to snap back "But!-"
She was cut off as a maelstrom of electricity seemed to erupt from the young boy's hands, arcing and darting between the tags on each adventurer's necks. "Sam. Sit down. Please". It would seem the literal shock of the young casters actions made the girl's iron temper somewhat more malleable, she sat down, the warrior, Ryder following her actions.
Admittedly, the girl, Sam still seemed determined to have the last say "Just get outta here Djaal..."
With her hands off him, and the adventurers now back to bickering, still shooting him wary glances, Kor'Ak made his way to the back of the room; where a familiar face to the man sat. Steal kept close to his massive companion, looking back once more to see of one the Guild staff scolding the group.
He remembered those same sunken eyes, contrasting with her cheery voice. Those eyes had been fixed on him since he entered. Kor'Ak didn't know why, assuming it was because he'd actually returned from his quest, rather than ending up as that wyvern's chargrilled snack.
That cheery voice from before seemed to lighten even Kor'Ak's heart "Ah Mr Gale... Apologies for what just happened, I assure you they will be appropriately reprimanded for the things they said to you.." In truth, Kor'Ak was aware nothing would happen, but still he spoke "Thank you for that... So, I'm here to turn in the Wyvern quest I took up" The man opened the satchel at his side, pulling the wyvern's freshly-cleaned eye from it. The reaction he expected from the girl was not what he got. She simply nodded, indicating that he put the eye away.

A few murmurs could be heard from the table of adventurers just a dozen feet away "Wait, wyvern? Fuckin hell" the young womans voice was cut off yet again by the caster "Imagine what would have happened if he'd responded violently, now you know why are told you to sit down."
The clerk ignored it and carried on to Kor'Ak "Your reward will be..." She fulled open a cabinet, rummaging through stacks of contracts and forms before turning to Kor'Ak again, a look of confusion on her face "Is that really all you asked for?" The Djaal grunted and nodded as an answer as the girl carried on "Okay.. that'll be one hundred and eighty gold krowns..." The clerk unlocked a lockbox at her feet, pulling out a rather large cloth sack filled to the brim with coins. Kor'Ak merely nodded again as she pused the sack towards him along the desk, he pocketed the bag quickly and smiled "I apologise for the trouble I've caused here, hopefully they shouldn't cause any troubles... who put up money for this wyvern quest anyways? I doubt a concerned citizen or farmer could have offered up all this money to hire some adventurers..." The clerk sighed "As you know Mr Gale, unless the quest poster wishes for their name to be disclosed, it is strictly confidential."
Another grunt from Kor'Ak "If those are the rules, guess there's nothing I can do about it is there... Say, do you have any other quests for me? Nothing for the bronze-rankers and below, I need some decent pay."
The clerk's eyes began rummaging through another stack of paper, which both Steal and Kor'Ak though looked the same as the other dozen or so stacks of files and papers around her desk. "Ah... a bodyguarding job? A wizard called Kelvin needs to head to the capital and wants a small, competent guard group, fifty golden krowns, and if there are any unforeseen circumstances on the road, he'll pay seventy-five." Kor'Ak seemed to grin widely as she spoke. He could buy the goblin the item he wanted in the capital, going with this job would make him profit from his travels as well, there wasn't any reason to not take this job.
"I'll take it" He pointed to Steal now, his wretched form hidden under layers of cloth "He'll be coming with me, not a registered adventurer, but we'll split the pay, anything in the request that says I can't do that?"
The clerk stammered a little with the man's sudden enthusiasm "N-n-no?"
Kor'Ak's smile beamed wide "Alright young miss, we'll be taking the job, tell the requester to meet us here tonight at sunset!" He smiled, passed her a few golden krowns from his newly acquired, veritable hoard and span on his feet, seemingly not even noticing that the Adventurer's Guild was now empty, besides the few clerks still signing endless mountains of contracts.
"C'mon Ma'Bizzle, we have preperations to make" He knew the goblin wouldn't understand, but he knew he'd follow him anyways.
And so the duo stepped back out to the busy streets of Veera.
