Chapter 38: Multiple Offers!
Two familiar weapons flew straight to the stage. One red, one blue… the two were the Blood Emperor and Heaven Shaker, offered both at the same time. Seeing the two weapons, one of the ladies on the third floor shook her head.
“We appreciate the offer, but we still…”
“Wait, hear us out first!”
Patriarch Sha Yu interrupted. It was likely they misunderstood his intent, so he had to explain first.
“I’m not offering these two as a bidder, but… I’m offering these two, to aid this lady. If you accept her offer, then take these two as well!”
Wha?
Haa?
The crowd turned dumb. For Patriarch Sha Yu, a cruel and devilish drug lord of Wang Nan, to help a lady in need? Did Heaven change his heart or something? Did he hit his head this morning? Did the sun come out from the West?
However, their puzzlement was temporary, as they realize one fact… That the lady there, could very well be, the one his son set his eyes on! There was no other plausible explanation.
Hearing him, the phoenix lady also frowned.
Just who was this gentleman, to be so generous in offering to help her. If she was not mistaken, these weapons were valued highly here. Both weapons combined had almost the same value as her Little Flame.
These few days… Did she somehow help some rich old man without realizing it? No matter how much she thought about it, it was unlikely. Growing wary, she asked;
“Dear Sir, I’m grateful for your help. But what did I do to… deserve this?”
“Hm, think nothing of it. This Sha Yu of the Sha clan had always been generous. You clearly stated this before, that this involved the life and death of someone dear to you. Hearing such loyalty from a lady, this old man was nothing short of impressed! That’s why I helped. Be at ease, there’s no ulterior motive, no hidden meaning, huhu,”
Promoting himself, Sha Yu was standing close to the veil, showing part of his still handsome face. Seeing him acting so, his son frowned. This old man, was he promoting himself for my sake… Or was it…
Hearing him say there was no ulterior motive, the crowd made a dumb expression. Similar thoughts emerged in their mind…
Who are you fooling, you old fool! You think everyone’s dumb?
Yet, whatever they thought, no one was foolish enough to utter it out loud. The phoenix lady was the same, she still could not believe him. It sounded too unrealistic. Then again, the herb was really important for her. So for now, she accepted the generous offer.
“Since senior is such a generous person, then this lady won’t be polite… This young one thanked senior!”
“Haha, don’t mention it…”
“If this worked out, I’ll remember senior’s kindness for eternity!”
“Haha, no need, no need…”
From the veil, everyone could see the prideful lady saluting the Sha clan’s room. Hearing her finally accepting his generosity, Patriarch Sha Yu was gleeful. For such a prideful phoenix to finally lowered her head to him… Hm, my son, see? That’s how you court a lady! This old man still has quite a charm, huh? Huhu!

…
Meanwhile, on the third floor;
“Three Heaven-rank Spirit Weapons?”
Facing such an offer, the two ladies’ resolve staggered. While the two weapons did not match their need, the sword called Little Flame did intrigue them. While the fire was fiery, the Qi flow was quite acceptable. As expected of a Spirit Weapon coming from the Phoenix Hall, it was suitable for a disciple in the Sub-Stars stage to use! However, when pitched against the Lightning Saber, the two ladies decided it was inferior.
Then again, this new offer was quite out of ordinary… Agree to one, get two for free! Moreover, the two weapons were quite excellent, good enough for their own use. While they already had their own, having extras wouldn’t hurt.
“Sis, what should we…”
“Wait, let me think,”
“Um, I think we’re being greedy?”
“It can’t be helped! Let me think!”
Because they weren’t greedy before, they lost the chance to get two at once, so… Having to think over for a breath, Shao Na said;
“This young lady offering the sword, Little Flame was it? What’s its special attribute, could you send us a memory token?”
“Yes, right away!”
Seeing the two sellers finally weighing her offer, the phoenix lady did not delay. She took out a jade token from her chest pocket. Her hand came out from the veil, throwing it over to the room a floor above, and opposite to hers. As it was about to reach to room, Shao Na reached out her hand, catching it.
With the jade token in her hand, she infused her Qi into it. Soon, clear images came out from it. It showed short action, but it demonstrated the weapon’s special attribute. Within, there was information on how much Qi needed, its effect, range, and limitations. Seeing the images, the ladies were mesmerized.
Outside, the crowd could not see the images, but they could sense the ladies were quite moved. Obviously, the sword’s special attribute was quite something!
…
After several breaths, Shao Na asked;
“This… how long must a disciple train to use this move well?”
“If a disciple had decent talent, one year. If one had great talent, half a year!”
“Half a year…”
Barely enough, she thought. She turned to her sister, seemingly she was thinking the same thing. Well, it seemed they had to forgo the Lightning Blade this time… A pity, but it had to be done. Turning to An Shan’s room, Shao Na saluted.
“Dear Sir with the Lightning Blade… It’s regrettable, but we’ll have to prioritize her offer instead. Please understand,”
Not wanting to offend whoever was behind the No.5 VIP room, she clasped her hands behind the veils, bowing in respect. Clearly, it was not easy to change their mind, but against such a good offer… One excellent blade was not enough.
“…”
“…If you don’t have any other offer, then please allow us to accept her—”

“Please wait, just a moment,”
“Ah?”
Shao Na heard the voice, different from before. It was Mu-er’s voice, asking her to wait. Within the room, An Shan was dozing off. When she seemed to reject his offer, Mu-er finally dared to shake him, waking him up. Since he was not really sleeping, he easily woke up.
“Hm, did the auction finish?”
“No, father… It seemed the competitor…”
He explained it as simple as possible. Nodding, An Shan took an umbrella out from his spatial ring…
“…I’m adding this one, in addition to that Lightning Blade,”
He threw it out. Coming from the veil, was a pink umbrella… It had no shocking lightning, no fiery fire, no elemental power whatsoever. However, it slowly flew down the stage, ever graceful. Seeing the umbrella, the crowd frowned. It looked nothing extraordinary, could this really be a weapon?
When the umbrella reached the stage, it hovered above it. A little hum sounded, bringing into the room serene tranquility. Soon, the hall grew quiet. The surrounding atmosphere as if turning into the early morning, when the dew was everywhere and quietness reigned supreme… The crowd had no thought about it, but it seemed something was mesmerizing them. It was as if they were enthralled by a fully-blossomed flower garden…
“…I’ve recorded its special attribute, take it,”
He threw a jade token towards the ladies’ room. Shao Na caught it immediately, and when she did, An Shan again dozed off…
…
Examining the token, the two ladies’ faces turned ashen.
The view in front of them was someone in a dark garment. She had a pair of shining, beautiful eyes. It was Ru-er, with her face covered with a veil. Before departing, An Shan had her demonstrate the umbrella’s special attributes, recording it into the token she held on her chest. From holding it, both ladies could feel its special effect in first-person sight, as well as other senses.
“Aa… w-what,”
“My senses…”
It actually had the ability to increase focus, and sharpen senses! While the umbrella lacked offensive ability, it was excellent in a one-on-one fight. It increased the wielder’s reaction time, allowing one to move better in time of need. The increased focus and reaction time also increased the wielder’s chance for a critical attack, utilizing that short lapse in an opponent’s defense.
Aside from that, it also had a second attribute, the ability to dull enemy’s killing intent. This was evident when the wielder was going on the defensive. Being a metal umbrella with sharp edges, the whole weapon could be used as defensive as well as offensive.
“Two, two special attributes!”
“T-true, plus… these abilities,”
The ability to increase the wielder’s focus and reaction time? This kind of ability... The two ladies gulped. Similar ability was only heard of in legendary weapons belonging to Imperial Clans and the Five Supreme Sects.
In addition, the ability to influence the opponent’s mood?
This was just as amazing as the first ability!
…
The two turned silence. They had departed from their sect, turning to this large city in the hope of gaining a superior spirit weapon. While they had hope, there was still worry about whether coming to this city would be enough. Some of the elders of their sect voiced the opinion that the White Tiger’s capital city would be the prime location, as they would attract the most prominent clients there. However, the various risks barred them from going there. As for Fiery Phoenix’s capital city, as outsiders, there were some limitations they did not quite agree. In addition, it was too far away. Too much time would be lost. Thus, they choose the best of the closest cities.
They doubted whether they could get Spirit Weapons with good enough attributes, thus the reason why they insisted on the right to refuse the final offer.
…
If earlier, they had a doubt. Now, the offer stunned them.
Overbearing fire elemental attack?
Using the opponent’s blood to generate stamina?
Sending sound waves to distract the enemy?
While these abilities were amazing, this pink umbrella had surpassed them. Not only in one, but in two abilities! At the moment, the ladies had the same realization. No matter how ignorant they were, no matter how little time they spend in the outside world, and how rarely they came in contact with people from different sects… Still, they knew.
This kind of weapon, was not something to be used in an auction like this!
“Sis, w-who…”
“I don’t know, I don’t know—”
Both of them had their heart thumping, their cheeks turned red from anxiety. There was not just one monster in town. Aside from the White Tiger Imperial Clan, this kind of supreme clan… Another monster had appeared! This kind of monster, even for their Sect’s Matriarch, even for their Sect’s Ancestors… Considering the possibility of his backing, none of them could stand on par!
“C-could it be, he…”
“No doubt… Someone who could so casually send out something like this… Not only he’s from a sect rivaling the Five Supremes… He’s,”
Shao Na was about to utter that very sentence, but before that… She made sure the sound barrier was active, barring any of their conversation to leak outside. Obviously, the client was keeping his identity hidden. Should she misspeak, it could very well be her last mistake… Turning to An Shan’s room, she finally voiced her conclusion;
“He’s… An Ancestor!”

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
