《Sword Immortal's Rebirth》Chapter 90: Blackshadow Forest (1)

In the miniature grassland outside the Ninebless Phoenix Island’s Sect Hall, Heifeng Jiansui walked, Heifeng Xingmei and Jiuxie following. Together, they discussed about their cultivation and the plan to enter the Black Phoenix Ancestral Trial together.
“So you want to test our combat technique and group coordination in actual battle? Well then, which ruin should we explore?” Even though a long time had passed since Heifeng Jiansui’s demonstration of world creation, Heifeng Jiuxie was still amazed. This was more difficult that subduing that dragon who was probably a 7th Boundary Dao Condensation cultivator.
After all, world creation was the dominion of a Perennial Lord. Even in the legends of the ancient era before this one, tales of a cultivator of a lesser boundary creating a world wasn’t noted.
“Blackshadow Forest. That will be the most advantageous for us to temper our techniques and coordination.” When Heifeng Jiansui said this, Heifeng Xingmei paled.
“That’s the most dangerous ruin in our Great World! Not even cultivators at the apex of the Life Desolation boundary are assured of their lives in that place!” Hearing her response, Jiuxie couldn’t help her eyeroll. Since he could create worlds, he was capable of spatial destruction. Not even 5th boundary cultivators could withstand this destructive prowess!
“Xingmei, even though we three are mortals now, the cultivation techniques we three are training correspond to the Three Principles of the Black Phoenix Nine Daos and the formation techniques we will drill in work by converging them together! The Blackshadows are weak to purifying phoenix flame and we will be unchallenged there. If the worst comes to worst, I have treasures that can kill all under peak Samsara Revelation.” Hearing Heifeng Jiansui’s words, she calmed down.
Since Heifeng Jiansui’s Black Phoenix Allbeast Empire would reduce in stability while containing a cultivator of higher cultivation, she followed his order to destroy her cultivation and return to a mortal. Having lost the power that she had gained, she trained hard to regain it yet she couldn’t help her insecurity.
“Hey, I am curious about something… How come the topmost ancient ruin here is only a danger zone to Life Desolation cultivators? A great world should have mightier remnants…” Jiuxie asked curiously.

“The Black Phoenix Sect was nearly undamaged in the war of the previous era. There were no ancient ruins as there was zero destruction in the first place. The Blackshadow Forest has naturally formed during the passage of time.” Saying these words, Heifeng Jiansui’s marveling thoughts were concealed. This was most likely due to the legacy of the Black Phoenix…
“Well, let’s go then.” Heifeng Jiansui brought out his life-sword Nineprime, increasing it in size until it could stand 3 people. Bounding atop it with a single movement, Heifeng Jiansui stood on the tip of the floating sword. With a single wave, he called the girls to join him.
Jiuxie had once flown along with him on his flying sword, so she naturally followed after him. Xingmei was a bit slower.
The three of them stood stably atop the floating sword. Heifeng Jiansui controlled it to fly, shooting straight to the skies above. Just then, his left arm was gripped tightly yet a soft sensation pressed upon it.
“Flying like this is scary, it’s embarrassing but I have hold on to you for balance~.” Saying this, Jiuxie’s cheshire grin didn’t look embarrassed at all.
Seeing this, Xingmei glared before grabbing his right arm. “Flying is scary, don’t mind if I hold you a bit tighter.” Since her chest was a flatland, the softness needed to be emphasized by pressing!
Under this loveydovey environment with two girls glaring at each other, the trip for building group relations began.

The shadows stretching down from the gnarled, twisted trees of the Blackshadow Forest instilled a sense of horror in the hearts of men. The Blackshadow Forest’s reputation as a ‘danger zone’ kept any human settlements from being built near it. Cultivators searching for resources wouldn’t find them in this desolate ground.
There was nothing here but endless attacks from undying shadows. The Black Phoenix Clan had sent elders to investigate this place, but other than some dark and shadow attributed materials, nothing worth risking life was found. There were natural treasurelands with lesser risks and more rewards.
Only a darkness or shadow-attributed cultivator might find this a good environment for his cultivation, but a sect’s special trials would give a comparative effect without the need for risking life.

Thus, this Blackshadow Forest was a virgin forest untouched by humans for millennia.
Without paying attention to this, the three Black Phoenix cultivators stepped foot inside untouched lands. The gnarled trees had evolved through the millennia to gather the darkness energy that was anathema to it as nutrition. The trees turned uglier and uglier as they entered inside.
Even though the forest that seemed to stretch endlessly, Heifeng Jiansui walked in purposeful steps without succumbing to confusion. The two beauties behind him did not know why he was walking like this, but they followed regardless.
Not even five minutes passed before the shadows that stretched through the forest’s meager light gathered to form figures. Darkness formed various beasts which were entirely composed of darkness energy and were mute. Only the sound of wind blowing through the forest reigned.
The Black Phoenix trio formed a formation. Heifeng Jiansui held out his sword, Xingmei twirled her spear while Jiuxie fanned herself. The Daos that they had cultivated melded together into a system with the bloodline within their bodies as the core, supporting and engendering itself upon it.
The Threelaw battle formation was unleashed!
With their backs together, the trio weathered the assault of the group of more than a hundred Blackshadow beasts.
Chop, chop, chop!
Jiuxie’s fans flashed in nine-colored light as it cleaved through shadows upon shadows. The chopping power of Nineyuan Phoenixflame seamlessly cut through beasts without leaving holes in her defense.
Meanwhile, Xingmei’s spear pierced out one after the other, killing beasts slower due to her defensive style. The spearhead shone with eerie blackish-red flames, the darkness of Death and the fire of Life coming together in the killing technique! Every pierce and thrust turned the shadows into black mist, the Life-Death laws destroying false life like grass.
As for Heifeng Jiansui, his sword did not cut a single beast. His style was purely defensive, bent on annoying the beasts into attack the rest of the group. As expected, some beasts insisted on being pushed back endlessly, but most dove to attack the girls.
But even so, his training was the most arduous among them all. He was the core of the formation, utilizing the World Laws he had comprehended as the core and the bloodlines within their bodies as the pillars for setting up the Threelaw Formation!
The battle was long and tedious. The group knew myriad ways to attack, but since they focused on group battling, they could only train from the foundation… Battling a group of enemies together with a unchanging position.
As more and more time passed, their coordination increased and so did the energy amplification of the Threelaw battle formation. Finally, the 100 beast formation was slaughtered. Seeing the result of their bloodless massacre being an empty field, the two beauties seemed quite disillusioned.
“That was only our first wave. You shouldn’t have lost much energy from that. Keep up the formation and let us continue on…” Hearing Heifeng Jiansui’s instruction, the girls swallowed their protests and followed him inside.
The path Heifeng Jiansui led them through ended up with encountering more and more groups of Blackshadows. Together, they weathered through countless battles as they explored the dreary forest. Slowly, their coordination grew, such that they could attack in formation while charging. Soon after, they could use long distance spells and techniques without risking striking an ally.
This was only the entry level in the technical skill of coordination. High level coordination encompassed understanding the complete battle capability of the group and the enemy accordingly, using it to instantaneously formulate strategies to maximize advantages and reduce disadvantages to zero!
As for their Dao and law comprehension, it didn’t rise at all.
This could be said to be only natural. With their low understanding of laws, they had built up their comprehension through Heifeng Jiansui’s manuals and teachings. But the Dao was to be comprehended from the world, not from words. Their foundation in the laws was just enough to use the battle formation together.
But of course, Xingmei trained in the Reincarnation Supreme Dao which encompassed Life, Death and Samsara while Jiuxie trained in the Yin-Yang Great Dao encompassing the nine elements. Even a Samsara Revelation boundary cultivator could not compete with their comprehension!
