《The Will of the Strong》Training and Good Will

Thorin took a second to get up and clear his head. ‘I had that dream again’ Thorin thought concerned.

‘It feels so real, and I have complete control while I'm in it.’

Noticing his master waking up the skeleton walked over to revive a new command.

“Maybe it has something to do with my past” Thorin spoke out loud to the skeleton.

The skeleton just continued to stare at Thorin unresponsive.

‘Maybe I'm just crazy, I mean I just spoke to a skeleton.’ Thorin thought while chuckling.

“Time to get a move on” said as he stood up stretching. ‘Can't wait to get to town and sleep on a real bed’

He using his right arm he started to remove the bandages around his injured arm. It was looking much better and was almost healed completely.

‘Great I'll be able to take the stitches out tomorrow if it continues to heal like this.’ Thorin thought, happy with his decision to add points to vitality.

After warming up his muscles and packing up camp he started down the road again hoping he reach town soon.

He passed his time by giving his skeleton funny commands like juggle his knife.

Each time the skeleton would try and end up failing in some humorous manner.

After a half an hour of laughter due to the skeletons antics, Thorin was surprised to see the skeleton actually succeed.

Thinking it was a fluke Thorin order him to do it again.

The skeleton complying threw his rusty dagger it the air had it spin one time then caught it. It was a bit rough but in the end it caught it again.

‘ Amazing, the skeletons are capable of learning and becoming stronger.’

‘I've been an idiot’ Thorin realized. ‘I could have had it training itself this entire time.’

‘I can't just tell it to train itself need to make a command that cause it to improve itself.’

After pondering a while he tested out a command. “As we walk attack the bark of the trees alongside the road, try and do as much damage as possible.”

As soon as the command left Thorin's mouth the skeleton began to move to the side of the road and striking trees with his old dagger.

As he walked Thorin kept a close eye on the skeleton and its progress.

In for the first couple of trees the skeleton just attacked randomly doing little damage to the trees. Only chips of bark would fly off when it struck.

This continued for a while before Thorin got frustrated.

He walked over and commanded the skeleton to hand him the dagger.

“You idiot, You can't stab a tree you need to chop it like this!” Thorin said while he used his good arm to swing the dagger in a chopping motion. When the blade hit the tree it split the bark and went farther into the tree.

“Now you try” Thorin said while he handed the dagger back.

This time the skeleton struck the tree mimicking Thorin’s motions. This time the dagger cut through the bark but still did less damage to the tree than Thorin’s swing.

“Good job, Continue to practice till we make camp tonight”

Thorin started to walk down the road again, while the skeleton continued to swing away at the tree they passed.

Eventually Thorin called it a day while there was a couple hours of light left. At this point the skeleton’s attacks on the trees were proficient enough.

After setting up a fire Thorin called it over to a clear area to teach it a new lesson.

“Dodge my attacks” he commanded as he threw a punch at the skeleton’s head.

The skeleton unable to react fast enough had his head knocked off.

Thorin started to panic, he thought the skeleton would move out of the way but it just stood there and took it.

Thorin felt a drain of mana as the skeleton took damage.

‘Did i kill it?’

Luckily, the skeleton’s body remaining intact started to look for its head.

Relieved and fascinated with this new discovery Thorin looked into the magic running through the skeleton’s bones.

The spell worked like a closed system. It constantly circulated mana through the skeletons bones allowing it to move and follow commands. At the skeleton's neck though the spell is open and constantly leaching out mana. It wasn’t much but the spell need that mana to continue to function. Thorin ended being the supply of this mana.

Walking passed the blind skeleton, Thorin picked up the skull and placed it back on the skeletons neck. Almost like a magnet the skull clicked back into place.

With the leak gone, Thorin no longer felt the drain on his mana pool.

‘So my skeleton can stay alive as long as I have enough mana.’ Thorin was thrilled at this new discovery.

‘The one thing I have plenty of is mana.’

After the skeleton made sure his head was on right it walked back over to Thorin.

‘As long as I can fix him we can get back to training.’ Thorin thought as he repeated his command. “Dodge my attacks”

He again sent a punch flying at the skeletons head. This time though the skeleton moved back a step.

“Good, continue to dodge.” He said while he sent one punch after another towards the skeleton using his good arm.

Thorin wasn’t able to move or lash out very fast in case his stitches opened back up, so the skeleton was able to dodge his attacks easily. That was until Thorin started adding in kicks and different types of punches. Each time he switched somthing up the skeleton would end up getting hit and would stumble. Each trick stopped working though as the skeleton was learning how to dodge each of them. After a two hours of this Thorin was confident in his skeletons ability to dodge most basic attacks.

Taking a break he sat down on a long and checked to see if he gained any stats today.

He received another point in stamina, one in strength probably for training with the skeleton, and even one in intellect for learning more about his spell.

Pleased with the day's work he decided to rest.

He told the skeleton to guard him again. He let himself fall asleep hoping have that dream again. Thorin knew there was something important to them but couldn't find out why. Eventually Thorin drifted of to sleep.

Despite Thorin’s hope of unraveling his dreams mystery, he slept soundly and woke up the next morning refreshed. He checked his arm and like he predicted it was fully healed.

After he packed up camp, Thorin resumed his journey, praying that a town would be close.

Today he decided to further his skeleton’s dogging abilities. He would pick up rocks as he walked and throw them at the skeleton. The skeleton of course had to avoid them. At the beginning the skeleton was hit quite a bit but eventually got the hang of it.

It was around noon when Thorin heard a noise coming from up the road. He quickly ordered the skeleton to hid in the forest in case it was a group of humans.

After walking for another minute or two he eventually was able to see what happened. It appeared to be two dirty looking men trying to pull a wagon out of a ditch. The wagon was a decent size with a cover over the back. Thorin saw that they were having trouble trying to pull it out, and walked closer.

“Do you guys need help?” he shouted as he made his way over.

Both of the men jumped at the sound of his voice and turned quickly. One of them pulled out a rusty old sword. They didn’t respond for a second, before the larger one put away the sword and shouted.

“Yea, our horse git spook’d and run off leaving us in this ditch.” He said in a gruff voice, showing off his literacy skills.

“Here I’ll give a hand” Thorin stated as he approached the duo.

“We sure appreciate it a whole bunch stranger” The skinnier one said as he reached out to shake hands.

“The name is Thorin” He said while shaking hands with the man.

“My name is Tim and this big guy is named Roland. Thank god you found us we were going to have to unload all the cargo before trying again and that be a pain.”

“Alright let's see if I can’t help you two pull it out then. What are you shipping anyway?” Thorin asked while they all grabbed onto the wagon.

“Some weapons and armor. We’re smiths. That why the carts so heavy.” Roland replied

“Alright, pull” Tim yelled after Roland finished talking.

All three of them began to pull with all their might, until the wagon finally came loose.

“Thank you we’ll get you somtin as a token of our appreciation.” Tim said while panting from exhaustion.

“Why don’t go and take your pick out of the weapons in the cart. Happy with the chance to upgrade his weapon selection Thorin walked to the back of the cart. When he got there a foul odor hit his nose. He looked in and saw a crate full of different types of weapons each of them very well made. That wasn’t what Thorin was looking at though he was looking at the body stuffed in the back leaking blood. He suddenly blacked out as a Roland hit him in the back of the head with a club knocking him out.

“What an idiot, hehe check his pockets then tie him up. We’ll have him dig a grave for himself and the merchant when he wakes back up.” Tim said to Roland.

“Good thinking boss I hate that part of the job.” Roland said while throwing Thorin into the back of the wagon.
