《The Will of the Strong》Choices and Reincarnation

‘Wait what is happening.’ Alec thought.
He tried to look around but all he could see was black nothingness and the blue screen. He couldn’t even see himself.
‘Didn’t I die?’ He pondered before he suddenly remember his own death at the hands of Mrs. Johnson.
‘THAT BITCH, I WAS GOING TO SAVE HER.’ The rage that was present in Alec surfaced again as he howled insults at the selfish elderly women.
He continued to yell inside his mind until he finally was able to calm down and stifle his rage. Managing to maintain his composure he started to look at the only thing he could.
‘Huh’ He thought.
‘It’s done now’
Karma Points Obedient Child 50 Religious 100 Helped fellow man 150 Helped elderly 200 Died young 500 Died Virgin 500 Died saving another 1000 Total Karma Points 2500
“So you’re telling me that my life was just converted into karma points?” Alec said to himself.
[Yes] a monotone voice said startling Alec.
“Hello?” ‘Is someone there?’ Alec called out.
[Yes] the voice responded again.
“Who are you?”
[I am the guide for reincarnation, my purpose is to answer any questions you have while you go through the reincarnation process.] The voice plainly stated.
“So there is no heaven and all that time I spent at church was a waste.” Alec said dejectedly. ‘Reincarnation this should be interesting, at least it wasn’t nothingness.’
[No, your religious activities and faith grants 100 karma points.] The voice corrected.
“What are these karma points used for even” Alec questioned while he looked back at the blue screen.
[They are used to obtain a better life in your next reincarnation.]
“Why the hell does being a virgin give me more karma?” “Is this some sort of joke?” “I don’t need your pity points.”
[Being a virgin means your body was pure and the purer the body the pure the spirt.] [No this is not a joke] [If you would like I could remove the points gained from ‘being a virgin’.]
Alec thought for a second and realized that these points were probably very important and that it would be a waste to just delete 500 of them.
“No” Alec answered after a bit.
There was an awkward silence for a couple of seconds.
“Why aren’t you talking?” Alec said impatiently.
[I can only respond to questions regarding the reincarnation system.]
“What do I need to do to reincarnate?”
[First you must be selected a world to go to, the rest depends on the world.]
“I am not going back to earth then am I?”
[There is a small chance yes.] [.000032 percent chance of your return to your previous world to be exact]
“Well there is no point just sitting here in nothing might as well get started.”
All the sudden the blue screen was gone and Alec was surrounded by millions of light specks that started revolving around him getting closer. Panicked by the sudden lights Alec was scared at first, but as the lights started to slow down around him he calmed himself. They eventually stopped moving all together, and just surrounded him.

Confused, Alec tried to look closer at one of the lights. As he focused on the world, it seemed to magnify until it became the size a basketball in front of him. Alec was only able to look at it for a moment before it disappeared along with all the other lights.
[You have selected the world of Grundar]
“That’s where I’m going to be reincarnated?”
[Yes]
“What is it like on Grundar?”
[I am unable to tell you anything beside the fact that this world that you have selected contains an energy called mana which cause the reincarnation process to add a couple of steps.]
“Alright then we might as well get started then. What is the first thing I need to do?”
[Please select what you will be.]
Humanoid
Beast
Plant
‘I’d rather keep my ability to think and have hands.’ Alec thought while selecting humanoids.
Race Cost Goblin 10 Undead 50 Orc 100 Half Breed 200 Human 250 Dwarf 500 Elf 1000 Demonic 2000 Draconic 5000 ??? 10000 ??? 10000 ??? 10000
‘Goblins, Undead, and Elves’ ‘This world must be like a fantasy game for these races to be an option.'
‘I’d better stick with what I know.’
[You have selected the human race.]
[Due to being a human in your past life you have the option of retaining your previous appearance for only 250 karma points]
“Yes” Alec said immediately. He was happy with is looks in his previous life and wouldn’t mind keeping them instead of rolling the dice he had attractive parents.
[Now please select your class]
Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3
Tier 4
Tier 5
Alec looked over the screen. “What do these class tiers mean?”
[In Grundar the moment you are born you have a class most start with a tier 1 class and work their way up through their life.] [The most common classes that are the least powerful are considered tier 1.] [Example: Farmer] [The rarest and most powerful class are tier 5 classes.][Example: Demigod]
‘Alight then classes sound pretty important might as well buy one of the more expensive one’ Alec thought while selecting the tier 4 menu. The blue screen extends to building tall spread sheet.
‘Alright then I guess I have to narrow down the list.’ “Please only show the classes that are magic related.” Knowing that his best attribute was intelligence he realized he would have an advantage in a class using magic. That and he was quite curious what magic was actually like I real life. After saying that the blue screen shortened to a length of about a meter.
While looking at all the intriguing classes he could pick Alec was at a loss on what to pick. He narrowed it down to 3 choices in the end that he thought was best.
‘If I was a Wind Mage I’d probably be able to fly and create tornados.’
‘Druids can transform into animals and heal their allies.’
‘If I was a Necromancer I’d be able to summon minions and they’d fight for me.’
‘Alright they all sound pretty good that way, but what are they’re negatives?’
Advertisement
‘Negatives for Wind Mage, I’d be not as powerful as the other two especially when I first start out.’
‘Negatives for Druid, I’d be weak by myself, and honestly I’m not that much of a team player.’
‘Negatives for Necromancer, I’d have to deal with the smell of the undead and would possible be hunted down and hated for my class.’
‘I guess I’ll just be a Druid, I mean I’ll probably be able to help and save more people that way and always be accepted.’ Alec was about to confirm his selection when he remembered what being a nice guy got him in his last life.
‘NEVER AGAIN’ He thought as his repressed rage flowed through his body stopping him from selecting Druid. Instead he shouted out.
“NECROMANCER”
While shouting this out, Alec made a vow to himself to never bow his own will to others for their benefit. He would become strong. Strong enough that he could do what he wanted and not care what the other people thought. If they had an issue with that and fought him he would destroy them completely.
[You have selected Necromancer as your class]
The Voice shook Alec out of his dark train of thought. ‘Well I guess I am a Necromancer from now on.’ ‘I guess I just have to deal with the smell.’
[You have a total of 750 Karma Points remaining]
[Select the talents you would like your next reincarnation to have]
[This is your last chance to spend your Karma Points]
The blue screen once again stretched out again, this time it was only two meters long.
Realizing he might have rushed a bit when picking his class and ended up with one that wasn’t great, Alec decided to take his time and go through the entire list of talents.
After going through the entire list he ended up purchasing four talents.
Affinity with Death
A you are in harmony with death. Your death spell's needless mana to use and are stronger.
Dimensional Storage
Allows gives you a 50m cube to storage dimension. Just need to think about storing the object or bring it out to use.
Head Start
You start at the age of adulthood for your race with basic knowledge of the area and dialect. You start with the basic stats of your race.
Magic Reserves
Your body’s mana pool is much larger than normal and regenerates faster.
"Alright, that looks about good."
'It took a while, but it should be worth it all of these talents are remarkable.' Alec thought letting out a deep sigh.
[Please on purchase the skills you will have, due to the Head Start talent.]
"Wait, I thought I got random skills. I don't have any more karma points to spend."
[Are you say you would not like to purchase any skill?] The voice said.
"I would have liked to purchase some skill, but you told me buying talents was the last chance to buy anything."
[Please wait a moment while I analyze this complaint.]
"Okay I guess, I still want skills. How else am I supposed to protect myself?"
'For all I know I could be put down right in the middle a warzone. I need to be ready for anything when I first make it there.'
[Thank you for your feedback on the reincarnation progress. For your help, you have been gifted the skill Summon Familiar.]
'Alright, at least I got one skill.' He said angrly.
"Whats next then"
[You must pick the name of your new life]
"Okay one sec"Alec said while he started to think.
'I could use my current name but, Alec Smucker isn't an name fitting for a necromancer.'
A couple moments later, Alec figured out his new name.
"Thorin Black" he said confidently.
[Acceptable] The voice responded.
"Alright whats next then?" He was starting to get excited about his new life as Thorin.
[The Soul Wipe]
"Whats that's that?"
[The process of removing your memories and thoughts from your soul allowing Thorin to start his life.] The voice stated.
"Wait, your getting rid of me?" "I thought that I was going to"
"AAAHHHH" he screamed.
Alec suddenly fell to the ground clutching his head. He felt a searing pain and blacked out.
When he opened his eyes again he found that he was surrounded by light. Alec looked down but couldn't see himself. As he looked up he saw movement. Willing his none existing body forward he moved forward to see what it was.
What Alec found were two different energies in combat. One was a vibrant gold that felt comforting and easy to look at. The other was a transparent black fog, when he look at this he unconsciously back up due to the evil vibe coming from it.
These energies looked to be at about similar strength and were in a stalemate of one trying to consume the other. Alec out of the corner of his eye saw something that troubled him greatly. There was a black spot coming towards him and the two energies.
Alec screamed again out while clutching his head and falling to his knees.
As the black spot started to spread and come closer, the pain got worse and worse. He could feel his memories being ripped away faster and faster as the darkness spread. It was almost too much to bear. It started with his earliest memories and was making its way up.
Soon the darkness almost took up as much space as the light behind him. The darkness had taken most of his memories. He didn't even know who he was any more. At this point the pain was so intense it felt like someone ripped out his brain and threw it in a fire. He felt his sanity start to slip away.
He looked up one last time to see the two energy’s still fighting get touched by the darkness. They suddenly stopped their fighting and were still. Just before blacking out he saw both of the energies shoot out at the darkness.
He then felt the soothing relief of unconscious.

The Silver Mana - Book 1: Initiate
I used to be a healthy, young guy with a normal life - I had a career planned in professional soccer, a girlfriend, lots of hobbies, and loads of fun. Until the accident. Which changed my life. A few years later I had adjusted to my new reality, adjusted to being in a wheelchair, adjusted to having someone take care of me 24/7. And then the world changed. Old people and kids did not make it. And neither was I supposed to make it. But never count me out. If anything, I am tenacious. This new world was different. People could do magic. And there were monsters. And what about me? I had mana as well, silver mana. Which no one else seemed to have. The only problem was, I did not know what to do with it. Until I really needed to. Author's note: This is the rewrite of Silver Mana. The first bunch of chapters (until I will have caught up to level 2 of the dungeon) should be quite familiar to people that have read the original. There are some changes in content, but the story follows the original fairly closely for at least the first 150-200 pages. Most of the changes are in the writing, and some of the details of how things work. A few of the side characters get a bit more attention too. Some general comments to avoid disappointment: 1. The MC likes to swear. If you object to reading the word "fuck" at least once and usually multiple times each chapter don't read the book. "Fuck" is such a great, allencompassing word... fuck that; what the fuck?; fuck me! Fuck! one word, expressing so many nuances. And, frankly, the people I know that use fuck as a swear word.. they often use it a lot. 2. If you are looking for immediate progression, rapid advancement of the story, etc.... read another book. This one takes a bit. 3. I am NOT Pirateaba (who is writing The Wandering Inn) or anyone close to that level of productivity. If you expect to read 10k words every 3 days, or even just once a week... sorry. I've got a busy life. This is for fun, I have no patreon, paypal, anything, so I write when it is fun and however much is fun. Not more. And sometimes that turns out to be a decent amount, sometimes nothing. I have another book (Marrow) so that complicated things - basically I switch between the two whenever the muse strikes me.

Ravaged in mind, body, and soul, the solace he begs to receive from the Church of Flesh is impeded by a cruel lesson: the ramifications of a life spent sacrificing everything one has for others. See through the harrowing eyes of a man at his wit's end; through a dark fantasy tale of horror, hope, and desperation. Search for the cure. Conquer your personal demons. Welcome to Catalyst! As this is an archive of Catalyst Quest (an interactive, collaborative story), the prompts that were included with the original run of Avowed have been stripped, and the story is presented like a traditional novel for your reading convenience. The story will continue with Catalyst: Calunoth, just as soon as I am done revising its content for here on Royal Road.
