《The Soul of MorningStar》Chapter 31 The last straw

The way she thought of me was hurtful to say the least. I swallowed the tears that threaten to fall. I got out of her embrace and refused to look at her.
“Baby, I'm sorry.” She tried to hug me again but I avoided her arms. I stared at the ground trying to organize my thoughts. The Black man was silent.
Whispers made me raise my head. The Unas were restless. They didn't know what they should be doing with the show we were putting forth.
“We'll talk more about it later.” I said to my parents through gritted teeth. I took a deep breath and went to the Unas who currently needed me. “Okay, guys, is everyone here?” They nodded. “Once again, welcome to Forgotten Soul. Right now, we're in Anaheim Kingdom. The closest town is Soren Town. The neighborhood kingdom is called Beleheim. 20 years ago, it had been overrun by monsters. My suggestion is for you to stay a few days here and visit the town, then to head out to Beleheim to settle down. Bear in mind that it's just a suggestion and that you can choose otherwise.”
“You said that Beleheim is filled with monsters. Wouldn't it be safer to stay here?” Sevarin asked. The others around him nodded in confirmation.
“Actually, I thought that you would want to build your own town. In Beleheim, apart from monsters no one will ask too many questions like where do you come from or which authority allowed you to live there.” I explained. “There are some high level monsters but they usually stay in their own territory. I happen to know a few places where monsters aren't too strong. With our strength, it won't be too hard to settle there. You don't have to make a decision right now, we'll stay here a few days and then, we'll decide.” I smiled at them in reassurance. I could hear their sigh of relief. Everything I told them, I took it out of the forums. I had actually never been in the neighborhood kingdom.
“The clearing and this forest are safe. There are a few monsters and animals like wolves but they're pretty normal. First, prepare the camp. Secondly, we will make small groups and go into town. It isn't far, maybe 2 or 3 miles away.” It had been a long time since I talked so much and with what happened, I was getting sick of it. I clapped my hands. “Okay, let's go.”
Thankfully, Sevarin took charge. He gave each person a task to help made the stay here comfortable. The first group that would go into town was composed of Dominin Faris (Sevarin's brother), Holliatis Garbo (Sevarin's 2nd in command), and three other guys that I didn't know. The one thing they had in common was they were all warriors. Their races were vastly different with Dominin being an elf, Holliatis being human and the three other being respectively, a dwarf, a cat man and a wolf man.

Maron tried to talk to me again but I refused her. I had nothing to say to her. I didn't even understand why her words hurt me so much. Since the 'incident' with Claire, I had been called worse. I had been beaten, insulted and abandoned but I didn't feel as much hurt and tired as I felt now.
I led the small group to Soren town. All along the way, trepidation ate at my insides. If the training master caught me, I didn't even want to think what he would do to me. When I was there last, he scared me so badly that I fled the town in panic. Being a god, I shouldn't be scared but the man was a mystery. He could see me when others couldn't. He arranged a meeting with a goddess. His abilities were at the same time shrouded in mystery and fear-inducing.
When the town came into sight, I stared in shock. The surrounding wall and the gate were in shambles. From where we were, a mile away from it, I could see the statue of Lucia missing its top half. What was left of the gate hung open. Burn marks stood out against the normal gray of the buildings.
I signaled the others to stop advancing. It was obvious the town had been attacked. What I didn't know though was who the attackers were and if they were still there.
“Dad, do you know what happened here?” I questioned the only person among us that had been in the Soul in the previous weeks.
“I don't know. I haven't been in a human settlement in years.” I was rather disappointed at his ignorance. Even the forums hadn't mentioned anything about an attack. I cautioned everyone about the dangers we might face. With a confidence I was far from feeling, I walked the remaining mile leading to the town. At the gate, I stopped everyone once again. A man stood in the rubble left by the destroyed wall. I recognized him.
The man directly in front of us was the training master and that wicked war blade in his hands clearly spelled his displeasure at seeing us.
“You have no business here. Left before I'll make you.” His voice was as deep as I remembered. It was filled with a threat that I didn't dare to disregard.
I didn't say anything. My heart beat loudly in my ears. Sweat beaded on my forehead. The words he said to me before we parted came back to me with a vengeance. I could still taste the fear I felt that day.
The black man didn't have my problems. “What we came here to do is no business of yours, shamansword.” He said the last word as if it was an insult. He had a condescending tone that raised his adversary's hackles. I could feel a fight brewing.

I didn't know just how strong both of them were but a fight was the last thing we needed. “Dad, please, don't forget the Unas.” I tried to refrain my father's ardor in making him remember the reason we were here. “Master, it's been a while. If you let us in town. I can guarantee that we won't cause you any trouble.”
“Who the hell are you?” I froze at his question. I remembered everything he did to me, the pain and hardship of his training, the all encompassing fear that I felt because of him. And the culmination of everything was that... he didn't even remember me? That was the last straw that break the camel's back.
Every slight made against me came back to mind. How I endured for years hoping that if I was good, my life would be better. But everyday something else would happen to prove me wrong. It went so bad that for the last two years, I barely went out of my home. I had no money, no friends, no family that loved me. I had nothing... and I wasn't even worth remembering. Something broke inside of me.
I had never felt more fury that in this moment. I switched to my true form. I unleashed all the attacks that I could think of. I got my katana out. I slashed, cast a fireball, stabbed, cast a windblade. I used everything that I had in my possession to tear him apart. I used fear conversion and put everything in strength. I attacked and attacked again.
My unwillingness to fight was forgotten. I was too pissed off to care. I screamed all the rage I felt. Voice of the damned activated. Everyone flinched.
My huge mana pool was a godsend. The training master dodged everything I threw at him. I didn't know how he did it as what I was doing was basically a complete barrage of attacks. My screams were the only thing that hurt him a little bit.
As it was the manifestation of my godliness, voice of the damned and god rules didn't have a cost to be used. I took advantage of it. With my voice, I disorientated everyone and with god rules I made it looked like there was an overabundance of demons attacking the town. I used the image of the red horned demons. I made them the same way I remembered them.
I had the pleasure to see the training master's face paled at the sight of the demons. However, it was cut short.
“It's all an illusion. Don't fall for that, Valen.”
I didn't thought that I could get angrier but nothing prepared me from the sight of the training master standing next to the librarian. Yes, the guy who made me scared for my life was with the guy who killed me for no reason.
“Oh crap. Run!” Daddy dearest screamed at the Unas present at the scene.
My eyes turned an eery shiny red. My whole body was engulfed in black flames. I was so enraged that I couldn't talk anymore. Growls were the only thing that passed my mouth. Next to me, Maron had a gorgeous smile on her face. She was looking at her hands. Shackles took form. They encircled her wrist. They shined with a black light. They broke.
I didn't care though. I used nature mastery. The ground under my feet trembled. Buds came out of the cracks. They grew at an astonishing pace. In less than 10 seconds, giant trees overshadowed the destructed town.
I barely heard cries and shouts despair. They echoed in me and amplified my emotions. I wanted to stop but I was too far gone. My body moved on its own. I saw myself attacked the Librarian and the training master over and over again.
I didn't dodge the attacks they threw at me. I just went straight to them and hacked, stabbed, cast spells. Everything that was at my disposal, I used it. Maron was with me. Her fingers transformed in claws. She was frantic like she was feeding from my out of control emotions.
I didn't check my health status but maybe I should have. A blue light enveloped the training master's war blade, the librarian shouted words that I didn't understand.
The librarian cast a spell on the training master. He became fast. In less that one second, he crossed the distance between us. He slashed at my chest. I only felt a deep pain before a pop up filled my vision.

Stories Of Indlu
“… to grow, for opportunity, for adventure, to be free. Join the colony ship Nao Vittoria. Be the first to live amongst the stars.” It was obvious from the literature that the NextStar corporation wanted the young, the adventurous and the brilliant. So why were the super rich fighting over seats? Why were AI’s trying to stow away? Did this signify a premature end to human/AI civilisation? Why had some questions directed to NextStar been aggressively sidelined? Why did the colonist inflight entertainment trial produce fatalities? In fact, why colonists at all? Those and many other questions, however, boiled down to a single central question. Why was the world’s most advanced AI dumped with a hundred year babysitting job for 50 million people speeding towards an uninhabitable planet? It made such little sense. The only sure way to get answers, catch a ride on the Nao Vittoria and play the inflight entertainment game, Pax Domini. I joined, and this is my story. Well, I feature. OK, I’m more of a spectator. Actually, I’m completely irrelevant I was just there. I’m only the storyteller. But what a story to tell. --------- Hi All, Content will be published weekly usually Saturday and typical posts will be 25oo to 4ooo words per post. Though for some reason the Royal Road word count does not include the content of tables so some posts may not appear to meet this criteria. Currently I have written sufficient unedited content to keep this schedule for the next 12 months (half way through the first story arc). My current productivity would indicate that I can maintain this schedule for well into the second story arch. This also allows for the additional content that will be posed exclusively on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/StoriesOfIndlu). This additional content follows minor characters, peripheral events, maps and other content that does not take away from the main story. I would love to accelerate the post schedule but to meet this I need the assistance of more beta readers than I currently have. So please let me know if you are interested. - Andy ©2022 Andy Leauter.
