Waking up from her sleep, Suky squirmed in her bed, blinking her light green eyes and struggling to fight off her sleepiness. It was already late, like usual, so she couldn’t afford to delay any longer. Yawning, she tossed the blanket aside and sat at the edge of her bed while scratching her head. Her long, reddish brown hair was a mess, but she didn’t plan on straightening it out.

Since she slept in her underwear, she put some proper clothes on which involved wearing a black tank top that exposed her navel and black shorts. She didn’t like to wear much because of her reddish orange fur that covered her entire body. Pretty much every beastman in her position felt the same way.

With her preparations done, Suky went to the kitchen. Her pets were running around, doing their own thing. It was already noon, but they had properly eaten. Luckily, she taught them how to feed themselves and left preserved food and water in the open. She only needed to make sure that they didn’t run out. She opened the cupboard, picked up a jar that had dried jerky in it and took out a few pieces. While munching on her breakfast, she headed for the living room.

“Morning, Da.” [Suky]

Suky greeted the old tiger that was napping by the window. He didn’t move, but growled a reply. His fur looked better than hers, but she personally believed that her stripes were lovelier.

“Ryner already left?” [Suky]

Again, he only growled.

“His scarf is gone too. That bastard… I’ll be going out for a bit.” [Suky]

She left for the door and put on her boots. Behind her, Da moved his head and looked her way, seeing her off. Mi, who was playing with her siblings, stopped and barked twice as if to tell her goodbye.

Ryner liked to laze around, yet he woke up earlier than anyone else and always went outside without telling her. However, she knew where he would always be at and just like she thought, there he was.

Having arrived at the local park, she could see his sprawled figure as a bunch of kids played around him. At least, that was how it was, but it really just looked like they were burying him. There were at least five children happily lying on top of him. It was a dogpile.

“Ryner!” [Suky]

Suky called out.

“Woof!” [Ryner]

The black and white wolf barked, seeking help.

“The doggy said ‘woof’!” [Kid]

“He did!” [Kid]

“Woof!” [Kid]

“It’s not a doggy! It’s a wolf!” [Kid]

“Nuh-uh! It’s a doggy!” [Kid]

“A wolf!” [Kid]”

“Doggy!” [Kid]

“Wolf!” [Kid]

The kids got excited when they heard his bark and noisily argued among themselves. Their parents watched with warm eyes, knowing full well that the wolf they were squashing was harmless. The red scarf around its neck told them that it was Suky’s pet, meaning that it was properly trained. But, the main reason was that they had already gotten used to seeing him in the park. He was their children favorite playmate and the number one reason why they looked forward to going outside to play.

“Alright, kids, I need him back.” [Suky]

“Suky?” [Kid]

“Already?” [Kid]

“Aww~.” [Kid]

“I’ve got work to do. Feeding all my pets isn’t easy. Come on. Get off him, kids.” [Suky]

Having succeeded in talking the little ones into returning him to her, Suky took Ryner out of the park.

“So? Did you have fun?” [Suky]

She grinned teasingly as she asked the wolf walking beside her.

“Grrr.” [Ryner]

“Yeah, right. You totally love those kids.” [Suky]

“… Woof.” [Ryner]

“WHAT WAS THAT?!” [Suky]

Her amused gaze became a murderous glare in an instant and she dropped her fist on his head. She couldn’t understand him, but she knew what he was saying nevertheless. When they reached their home, the young woman took him to her room and picked up a pile of men’s clothes before throwing them at his face.

“Here. Change into these. We’re going out to do a job. It’s a bit more dangerous than the usual, but the pay’s better.” [Suky]

She explained as she grabbed the sheathed short sword hanging by the desk next to her bed and attached the sheath to her belt. Besides her weapon, she picked up the rest of her gear that were lying around such as gloves, rations, money, a lantern and a first aid kit.

“Maya’s birthday coming up. I want some extra coin to buy her a nice present. It’ll be hard to top her family. The Catallards have deep pockets.” [Suky]

It sounded like she was complaining, but a smile was on her lips as she thought about her friend. It took a while, but Maya finally showed that she could stand with the best and was thus accepted by her clan.

“Come on, Ryner, let’s… Why haven’t you changed yet?” [Suky]

When Suky turned around, the wolf was still there, lying on the pile of clothes like a makeshift bed. She narrowed her eyes, annoyed at his conduct.

“… Oi, hurry up and get changed, you lazy wolf!” [Suky]

As she hit his head, a high-pitched sound leaked from his jaw and he glared unhappily at her. She glared back, ready to punch him again. After a few seconds, Ryner relented and looked away. Then, he closed his eyes of different colors and focused.

The transformation began.

His body expanded, his bone structures changed and his fur disappeared. He no longer had the limbs and face of a wolf. They morphed and became the hands, legs and face of a human. The one that was slowly getting up was a black-haired beastman that reached his twenties. The ears on top of his head and the tail hanging behind him were the only proof that he had been a wolf before. Besides his right eye that was white, the horrible scars on his body and the fact that he was naked, nothing was out of place about him.

“I hate turning back. It hurts like hell.” [Ryner]

Ryner complained as he put his right hand on his left shoulder and rotated it.

“Wear some damn clothes first. And if you hate it, then stop turning into a wolf.” [Suky]

“But, it’s so comfortable. I can just nap and laze around all I want like that. Wolves have it easy.” [Ryner]

“Gods, you’re damn lazy.” [Suky]

Suky put her hands on her hips and sighed. She watched him with sharp eyes as he put on his underwear. Afterwards, he started putting on his pants. By then, she had already grabbed him by the arm and pulled him towards her.

“W-whoa! What is it?” [Ryner]

“You ass, you woke up without me again.” [Suky]

“Huh?” [Ryner]

“I woke up and you weren’t there.” [Suky]

She said as she glared at him from up close. Because of their height difference, she had to look up, which annoyed her and put her in an even fouler mood.

“Again? That’s because you never wake up, no matter what I do. There’s no point in complaining about it now.” [Ryner]

“No, there is.” [Suky]

She stared at the idiot’s sleepy-looking eyes and put her hands on his chest, tracing the huge scars with her fingers.

“You still haven’t kissed me yet.” [Suky]

Her hands moved to his nape and she pulled him towards her. Without warning, she planted her lips on his.

“Mngh!” [Ryner]

Ignoring his surprised, muffled voice, Suky kept attacking the insides of his mouth by using her tongue.

“This is payback, bastard.” [Suky]

When she finally released him, she pushed him to the bed.

“Aren’t we supposed to have a job to do?” [Ryner]

While sitting on the bed, Ryner asked the beastman that was crawling over to him on all four like a feline. She grinned, showing her teeth.

“It’s fine. We just need to be done before the end of the day.” [Suky]

She sat on his lap and pushed him down as her tail whooshed back and forth.

“So shut up and kiss me again.” [Suky]

Afterwards, things escalated well beyond a morning kiss.

“Soooo, the job’s a subjugation quest?” [Ryner]

“Yeah.” [Suky]

“And we’re going to kill a bunch of goblins?” [Ryner]

“Their nest was found and reported just recently. If the info’s right, it’s gotten pretty big with around thirty of them or so. We’re gonna clear it out. Otherwise, they’ll start attacking villages and kidnap the women.” [Suky]

“Goblins are weak individually, but tough as a group. It’s dangerous with just two people.” [Ryner]

“What the hell are you saying? It’s dangerous if it was only two people, but that’s why you’re here.” [Suky]

When Suky was satisfied, they travelled to their intended destination and were now standing in front of the entrance of a cave, deep in the forest.

“You’re the only beastman that has beastification from the relic and can turn into a wolf.” [Suky]

“I just become a normal wolf though.” [Ryner]

“But you’re damn strong when you’re not. This’ll be a piece of cake. My income’s really increased since I met you.” [Suky]

“If you want more money, we could do more dangerous, but better paying jobs.” [Ryner]

“Then you should sign up as an adventurer first, because I’m not allowed to do them. Now, let’s get to work.” [Suky]

She slapped his back and the two advanced inside the dark cave. They lighted their way using a lantern that had a light-emitting magic stone inside. Still, they could have gone without since the two of them could see in the dark. After a while, Suky’s ears twitched as she picked up some faint sounds coming from up ahead.

“They know we’re here.” [Ryner]

Ryner also heard it and stepped forward. Seeing his back put her at ease. Despite being a lazy weirdo that preferred to spend his days as a wolf, he was the most reliable man she ever met. She pulled out her short sword and prepared herself for the coming fight. As if waiting for her to get ready, a horde of goblins appeared and rushed at them.

They were small creatures that had pale green skin and the body size of a child. Their ugly faces had sharp teeth, a big, round nose, bloodshot eyes and pointy ears. A dirty piece of cloth was tied around their waists, but a few had armor that was taken from previous preys. They let out high-pitched screams and brandished their weapons that consisted of clubs, daggers or short swords.

The battle that happened next was purely a massacre.

Ryner charged in, empty-handed, and smacked them around. None of their attacks had any effect on him as they harmlessly bounced off his skin. He hit one with a backhand and sent it colliding against the rocky wall. A splat was heard before the goblin fell down. Its blood that painted the wall now covered the ground around it.

Another one was kicked upward and never came down. The third unlucky goblin was grabbed by the head and used like a weapon as it smashed into its allies. Its broken body soon dangled lifelessly. None of the little green monsters could stop the invader’s advance and they were all tossed about like dolls.

“… What am I even doing here?” [Suky]

Suky, seeing his indomitable form, shrugged her shoulders and grinned. Ryner was S rank and he had beastification. Despite his great strength, he wasn’t arrogant. Also, it was interesting to be around him, though his laziness was often annoying. When he came of age, many women curried his favor, but he was her lover, and she completely monopolized him.

After finishing up his slaughter with Suky following behind, the two reached the end of the cave where they saw a group of goblins waiting for them. Behind them was a creature that was as big as a man and whose body packed quite a bit of muscles. It had pale green skin and looked similar an adult human, if not for its inhuman face. Its huge nose, sharp teeth and bloodshot eyes were just like those of the goblins around it.

“Well, what do you know, they had a hobgoblin.” [Ryner]

“Gyuaaahh!!!” [Hobgoblin]

The hobgoblin howled and pointed its sword at the intruders. Listening to its order, the two goblins that had bows shot out an arrow each while the rest charged forward. Ryner, who was standing in front of Suky, got hit by the sharp projectiles, but didn’t suffer any damage as they simply bounced off his chest.

“Ryner?” [Suky]

The tiger-eared woman accompanying him called his name when she saw what he was doing. Instead of preparing to meet their attack, he stood still. Then, his body began to expand as his clothes tightened around him. His messy hair grew a bit longer. His nails became claws, his teeth sharpened and a low growl was leaking from his lips. The goblins that noticed his change all stopped as they sensed the terrifying danger.

The transformation continued until he became a huge man that was nearly two meter tall. His shirt was ripped off, revealing the scars and the bulging muscles underneath. His feet stuck out from the destroyed shoes and his pants could barely contain his powerful legs. The features of his face became wilder, more animalistic. Still, compared to others, it didn’t change much, except for the black fur that grew on the sides of his face much like sideburns.

“You still want to fight?” [Ryner]

Ryner asked the goblins in a low, deep voice as he cracked his neck. They took a step back, fearful of the man that was bigger than their leader. Then, they simultaneously turned around to escape towards the hobgoblin. However, none of them managed to take more than a step as claws ripped through them. Their corpses fell down among blood and fleshy bits.

The hobgoblin that saw how they were taken down in an instant trembled in fear. But, it couldn’t retreat at all since the only way out was blocked by those two intruders. It stared at its two remaining goblin archers for help, but they were quickly dealt with by a thrown pebble that blew off their heads.

Ryner slowly walked towards the hobgoblin, making its heart beat faster with every step. The leader of the goblins, cornered, swung its sword in a desperate attempt to survive. Yet, its weapon was caught and the blade was crushed into pieces. As it stared at the handle, dumbfounded, Ryner swung his left hand at its neck. His claws shredded its flesh and bones and its head flew through the air.

“We’re done. Now, let’s go back and nap.” [Ryner]

The beastman that cleared out the nest single-handedly turned around and said to Suky in a laidback tone.

“Beastification wasn’t needed. That was overkill.” [Suky]

“It’s called showing who’s boss. And we’re done. We’re done, damn it. Let’s leave. I want to sleep.” [Ryner]

“Wait, we need to cut off their ears as proof that we finished the job or we won’t get paid. Help me out.” [Suky]

“Ah, oh yeah. I forgot.” [Ryner]

“Also, stay beastified.” [Suky]

“Huh? You know how tiring this is?” [Ryner]

“You can keep it up for hours though.” [Suky]

“… Fine. I’ll gather their ears real quick like this.” [Ryner]

So, having slaughtered all of the goblins and their leader, the duo proceeded to cut off their ears to bring them back to the adventurer guild. Once they were done and the proofs were wrapped and stuffed in a thick, leather bag, they exited the cave and walked through the forest.

“How long do you want me to keep this form? We’re done, right?” [Ryner]

Ryner, who was walking bare-chested, complained as he looked at Suky. Thanks to his new height, he could clearly see the top of her head.

“Yeah, we’re done. So…” [Suky]

Suddenly, she jumped at him and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Wait, again?! Mngh!” [Ryner]

She kissed him like she did earlier in the day. Her tongue invaded his mouth without shame.

“We’re in the forest.” [Ryner]

Ryner pried her off him before he could speak again.

“I know, dumbass, but look around. No one’s here right now.” [Suky]

She rebuked his reminder and pulled him by the arm, making him lean down so that she could reach his face.

“Why the hell are you acting like it’s mating season?” [Ryner]

“You’re walking around bare-chested and showing off your muscles. Of course I’d get in heat… And you know I find it exciting when you’re like this.” [Suky]

She forced him to lie down on the grass and sat on top of him.

“Besides, you’re looking forward to it too.” [Suky]

Suky grinned as she stared at his face. Indecent mischief was present in her eyes.

“Well, yeah, I am… But, I want to take a nap right now.” [Ryner]

“WHAT WAS THAT?!!” [Suky]

Her heated gaze became a furious glare in a moment and she punched his stomach, though it didn’t really hurt him.

“You’d rather sleep?! Bastard! You wanna fight?! HUUH?!!” [Suky]

“… Pretty sure I’d win easy.” [Ryner]

“SHUT UP!!!” [Suky]

She moved from his waist to his chest and grabbed his face with both hands.

“This lazy wolf! You’re my LOVER!! Do your job properly and MATE WITH ME!!” [Suky]
