《The Last Watcher》Skills and Thugs

He stepped out into the streets, sweeping his gaze across the busy street. People occasionally glanced his way, giving him odd looks. Ignoring them he decided to move again, turning to the right he shifted his sword to be directly behind him, not eager to accidentally decapitate one of the natives by accident.

His thoughts wandered back to what the woman at the Guild had said. According to their laws, he would qualify to be an Adamantine adventurer, whatever that meant. He wasn't very eager to accidentally decapitate one of the natives of this world. Three of the words she had said back then caught his interest however. [Affinities], [Skills], and [Status].

From what he had discovered via his two readings of what he assumed was his '[Status]', he had many different [Titles], and some [Status Effects]. He also noticed [Mute] that had sat at the bottom. The smallest of smiles appeared underneath his mask, a small shift of the fabric being the only indication that his mouth had moved. That had followed him even to another world. His smile disappeared as he frowned in thought, sidestepping a moving cart as he did so.

Apparently because he was [Mute] he could activate things with his thoughts instead of having to speak like everyone else seemed to do. He remembered when the two guard captains had used [Analyse] on him. He wasn't sure what it was but they seemed to both pass out shortly after. Maybe it was a very taxing spell that was used to inspect something. Well from what he could tell he had a decent amount of mana to spend.

[Analyse].

Immediately a blue screen popped up in front of the man that was currently walking in front of him. Glancing around to see if any of the other townsfolk had seen it, he frowned upon seeing them completely ignore it. So he was the only one who could see it. Looking back he read the small box.

More information available due to higher level. Information limited by current version of [Analyse]. [Categories] [Information] Name Bob Class [Taste Tester] Level 12 Race Human Age 43 Core Stats: [Health] 120 [Stamina] 50 [Mana] 10 Skills:

[Detect Poison] Detects if [Poison] is present in an object. Some [Poisons] are exempt to this. [Gluttony] Can eat 100% more food, and increase the amount of nutrients from eating.

He raised an eyebrow as he examined the man in front of him. Sure enough he appeared to have the stomach and size of a taste tester. The man was even greedily and messily consuming a large piece of cooked chicken as he walked, disgusting most of the people that walked by.

He looked at the bottom of the box. [Skills]. That word had shown up again. And it was different from other words too. What could it mean. Maybe it worked the same as [Analyse]?

[Skills].

Skills: Information: Skill Cost: [Unique] Soul of Farron

The final move for the Abyss Watcher's. In either moments of intense rage or if they are close to death, the one in those circumstances will summon the full might of the Undead Legion, fusing all the souls beholden to the Legion into a single body. Upon the end of the circumstances that led to the transformation, if the Abyss Watcher is still alive in the end, then the souls will be released from the body and the Watcher will enter a comatose state for an amount of time determined by [Willpower]. If the Abyss Watcher is killed, then the souls of the Legion will transfer to the slayer giving them the full power of the Legion until their own death. Due to the high stakes presented by this [Skill], it is almost always only used when the majority of the Legion has been defeated.

[Legendary] Farron Spellbreak

A skill used by the Undead Legion, [Farron Spellbreak] was used against [Abyss Magi], and was honed to perfection by the Abyss Watchers. While there are methods to defending against [Spells] in this world such as [Magical Ward], they cannot protect fully against powerful [Spells] and so are more often used against weak [Spells] and area of effect attacks. [Farron Spellbreak] is the far more superior version of this, with the ability to instantly dispel all [Spells] or [Spell Projectiles] within range, accompanied with zero [Mana] cost, and no visible way to determine if it is being cast. However, [Farron Spellbreak] is purely for anti [Mage] combat and so will not defend against physical attacks against the user like normal [Wards] do.

Frowning, he stepped out of the way as he moved to a small alley. Once away from prying eyes he stroked his chin in thought. So, all he had to do was think the [Skill] and it would activate? No that couldn't be right. After all, he had been thinking of some of that stuff before and it hadn't activated then. Maybe he had to think it with purpose? Before he hadn't been looking to activate and simply made it another part of his sentence. Then there was the weird way some of the words were thought. Like [Abyss]. It was simply thought differently. He shrugged. Not like it could hurt to try. But which one to use...[Enhanced Hearing] seemed like an interesting option.

[Enhanced Hearing].

Immediately he could tell the difference, with the conversations of the many people walking about the town reaching his ears in a torrent of noise. Stepping back in shock he covered his ears, only slightly helping defend against the onslaught of noise. Picking a random one, he focused to hear only that, the rest of the conversations fading out to a barely perceptible hum almost immediately.

"What do you mean these cabbages are 12 copper!" One man yelled angrily, the Abyss Watcher's ears pinpointing it to the other side of town.

"It's the market nowadays, ever since Erolin went to war food prices have been skyrocketing!" The other man replied, "Besides, they're worth the twelve coppers I'm selling. So no discounts!"

"No discounts huh? Well what if I do this!" The sound of smashing and splintering wood could be heard followed by the surprised yelp of the cabbage seller.

"NO! NOT AGAIN!! NOT MY CABBAGES!!!" He screamed, the smashing still continuing. "YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!!!"

"Oh yeah? What are you...gonna...oh dear Celes." A loud boom sounded through his ears causing him to drop the connection he had with the conversation. Looking back out of the alley a pillar of smoke reached into the sky, panicked screams reaching his ears. Groaning in pain from the sudden growth of noise he quickly shut off the [Skill], rubbing his ears as they ringed slightly. He could still hear the screams from here. Blinking he quickly poked his head back out into the street, seeing no one screaming but more so pointing at the pillar of smoke and shouting to figure out what was going on. Looking back down deeper into the alley he narrowed his eyes. These screams came from the other direction.

Olver sprinted as fast as his little legs could carry him, gripping the hand of his younger sister, Argent, as he dragged her around another corner. Glancing behind to check on her, he could still only marvel at the pure silver hair that billowed behind her, only being ruined by the stains of mud and grime that were splattered all over it. His eyes widened as a large man rounded the corner after him, an evil smile on his face as their gazes locked. His clothes were as dirty and grimey as Olver and Argent's, a gleaming silver dagger in his right hand as he moved to chase them again. Seeing Olver's scared look, Argent also looked back, screaming as she spotted the approaching man. Increasing his speed as much as he could without dragging Argent face first through the mud he turned another corner.

"Come back here kids! I promise I won't hurt you...much." The thug said as he rounded the corner as well. The only reason that he and Argent had managed to stay away for so long was because of all the sharp turns they kept making. Combined with the sheer amount of unclean the alleys of town were, and the thug would occasionally slip on the mud, although not enough to fully fall over.

His eyes scanned around them as he tried to recognise where they had ended up running to. His eyes widened in hope as he remembered some of the alleys here. They were close to the main street! With renewed vigour he turned another corner. Just two more turns and they could-

"Oomph." He grunted as he sprinted headfirst into a mans legs, sending both him and his sister onto their backsides as groaned in pain from the sudden collision. Groaning he froze as he saw a pair of tattered leather boots before him. Trailing up the legs, his face paled as he noticed the hooked dagger sitting at his waist, chain mail visible underneath the leather armour via the small tears in it. Finally he met the dark grey eyes of their no doubt impending doom. A massive sword the length of a man sat carelessly at the mans shoulder, as he stared down at the pair. Another thug. No doubt about it, after all, what sort of adventurer would willingly come down into the alleyways. Even more so, what sort of adventurer would wear such destitute gear. He definitely wasn't a guard as he wasn't wearing their standard armour. Although once again, no guard would willingly come down into the alleyways.

His head swiveled as he heard a pair of footsteps round the corner. Before he could jump to protect Argent from the two of them however, she herself grabbed his hand dragging him towards the second man. The man took a step forward, Argent continued pulling Olver behind her, the boy too shocked to react. By the time he had realised the situation he attempted to pull back, but too late. As he watched in horror, the man stepping forward, hand moving to his dagger. He stared down at them with cruel eyes and...wait a minute. His eyes weren't cruel. And they weren't even looking at the pair. Horror turned to shock as Argent pulled Olver past the man who paid them no attention. His focus was fully on the thug.

"Who the hell are you supposed to be? A knight in shining armour?" The thug chuckled, brandishing his steel dagger as he pointed it at the man. "I think you're missing the shining, and armour part. And that sword ain't gonna do you much good here." The thug reached out to the sides, his arms touching both of the walls of the alleyway. "And if you think you are gonna win with that dagger of yours, think again. I'm a Level 40 knifemaster." As if to prove his point he twirled the dagger in his hands with such speed and skill that Olver's eyes couldn't keep up with it. "So I recommend you back away now." The thug had a cocky smile on his face as he stared the mysterious man dead in the eyes.

The man slowly lowered himself, drawing the hooked dagger from it's sheath. The thug shrugged, "Oh well, your loss." He said before arrogantly stepping forward, the knife still twirling. Olver's eyes swiveled between the two. He had no idea how this would go. The thug was a knifemaster, famous for their quick, deadly attacks, as well as underhanded tactics. The other man was an unknown element however. And considering he wouldn't be able to use his great sword he would be at an extreme disadvantage.

Before Olver's thoughts could wander further however, the man made his move. He had never seen anyone move so fast in his life, the closing the gap in under a second, the [Knifemaster's] eyes widened as he attempted to raise his dagger. Too late, as the hooked dagger of the man dug into the knifemaster's shoulder. The man, using the embedded dagger pulled the thug downwards, kneeing him in the stomach. The thug let out a yell of pain as the man then proceeded to throw him against the alley wall to the left of him.

The whole fight had lasted two, maybe three seconds. And ended with the [Knifemaster] lying in the muck that was now mixing with blood from his shoulder and vomit from his mouth. Slowly the mysterious saviour of the two siblings turned towards them. He walked toward them, Olver sitting there in stunned silence and fear glanced toward his sister, expecting the same reaction.

Instead, he saw only amazement and admiration.
