《Origin A.R.S.》Chapter 103: The Boot of Love

The heart-warming sounds of sweet fairies fluttering about echoed through the air as Ero worked happily at her task. Ever since things had been cleared up between her, Scott, and Rhea, the sadness buried within Ero's heart had begun to dissipate. Now, it was practically non-existent.
The loss of her child weighed heavily on her mind, but the possibilities of the future allowed to be far more optimistic. As things now stood, her former sorrow gave way to creativity. The last few days were spent utilizing the skills of her class to craft simple natural materials into fun items.
She sighed happily down at the sheer fabric in her hand. Woven from dew drops, plant fibers, and moon light, it was the stuff of dreams. "If she puts this on, Scott will never know what hit him," said Ero with a soft giggle.
A soft pounding sensation in her womb alerted her to movement by the ever growing symbol of her union with Scott. She lightly patted her stomach then offered a sweet smile. "For something that isn't supposed to be a baby, you sure kick a lot..."
Idly she wondered if the symbol of their love would prove to be a pair of boots. It would make sense out of all of the kicking at least.
"Good evening little one. How are you feeling?" asked Karsi as she waded over to the lily pad that Ero currently used as her personal sewing factory.
"Hi Karsi. I'm really happy," said Ero warmly before she went back to work.
The elf woman cocked her head to the side then offered a smile of her own. "I can see that. Your light shines brilliantly little one. Brighter than it has at any point before."
"I don't doubt it. The little thing's been kicking up a storm," said Ero with a laugh. Her laugh turned to a surprised squawk when the symbol growing inside of her chose that moment to kick once more.

"Really...?" asked Karsi in a curious tone. "That is strange. The symbol should be complete and merely finishing its growth at this point. Kicking would be a sign that it has not completed its formation."
"Maybe it changed its mind and wants to be a—" Ero gasped loudly as the little symbol of love inside of her womb kicked once more. "—a boot."
"Maybe... Does it hurt? You seem to be in pain whenever these kicks occur, but that should not be the case, either." Karsi eyed Ero with warm, but concerned eyes.
"Why wouldn't a baby kicking hurt a little?" asked Ero before she whimpered and bit her lower lip to try and fight back against the pain.
Karsi started to answer but then took a soft breath and looked away. It was natural for a baby's kicks to hurt a little, or even a great deal. It was possible that they could even fracture a rib if the baby positioned itself just right. Yet, Ero was not with child. A mere symbol of love should not react in this manner.
The elf woman carefully observed Ero for a moment then noted that her abdomen was quite swollen in comparison to only a few days prior. A strange thought entered her mind, but she dismissed it. Such a thing was impossible.
Through clenched teeth, Ero began to sing a soft lullaby that she learned from Scott's memories. It was a gentle song about a mother's love for her child and how the child could sleep sweetly at night because her mother would protect her.
The kicking subsided and soon Ero's face became content once more. Karsi, however, stared openly at the scene. Her suspicion grew threefold upon witnessing the scene. Had the impossible become reality?

A squad of pregnant fairies fluttered by not long after, each laughing and carrying on happily. They took a moment to wave to their big sisters Ero and Karsi, before fluttering on to their next happy moment.
"Little one. I do not wish to pry, but did something extraordinary happen in the last few days?" asked Karsi.
"Extraordinary?" asked Ero. The little fairy reached up and lightly tapped her lower lip. Not long after, her face reddened and she smiled sweetly. "Well, yes... I don't know if anyone else would call it that but it was one of the best things to ever happen to me."
"A life changing event?" pressed Karsi in a gentle tone.
Ero nodded softly then looked down at the fabric in her lap. "Rhea and I finally came to terms and we admitted we loved each other enough to share Scott equally... and..."
"And?" asked Karsi.
The redness of Ero's face increased in intensity until she became similar to a bright red tomato. "A-after Rhea left, Scott and I. We— Well, for the first real time... I mean..."
"Little one, what happened?" asked Karsi in her gentle way.
"We've been together before, but mostly in a dream and like... twice when Rhea was there. In the waking world we'd never actually been alone together in that way..." said Ero before she threw her hands to her cheeks. The softly giggling fairy shook her head lightly as the memory of that glorious moment filled her senses.
"So, you became intimate?" asked Karsi.
"My Scott was quite thorough when it came to showing his love for me..." said Ero, before she immediately followed up with another girlish giggle, "I was so sore the next day."
"I see..." Karsi watched the happy little fairy as she went back to singing her sweet lullaby to the possible boot growing in her womb.
Whatever was going on inside of Ero was unprecedented. Karsi remained uncertain of what it all could mean, but for now she would watch out for her little sister and be there for her when the time came. Given the size of her abdomen, that time was not far away.
