《Purple Lightning Emperor》Chapter 44

While Looking at the first enemy that caught his eyes, Shad could clearly see that this person wasn't some lowly bandit or mercenary. He had a determined look on his face as though he was ready to die for his cause. this person had the look of a soldier rather than an assassin or a bandit.
Shad carefully held his breath and climbed slowly a little higher. He was currently hidden on the treetop, looking down from up high, carefully scanned all the area below with his spiritual force to determine the exact position of all the enemies as well as their numbers.
Looking down below, Shad saw more than seventy people lying on the ground with their body covered with tree leaves and branches, only their faces were visible. From their positions, they could clearly see the soldiers below as well his carriage. To make matter worse, his soldiers were traveling with torches on their hands as it was in the middle night, this facilitated the attackers to know their exact positions despite their short range of visibility.
Whether it was the terrain, their positions, the attackers had a huge advantage over Shad's troops. Shad knew that this ambush was clearly planned ahead of time. His enemies were laying there waiting for him to pass to this specific area. How did the group know Shad and his group would pass here while there were numbers of roads that they could have taken?
These people were extremely calculated, especially their hiding positions. there wasn't a huge distance between them, and could clearly see each other. The person lying at the end could clearly see the person lying a few meters away from him, vice-versa. In another word, Once one of them was attacked, the whole group will know like a domino effect.

Seeing their formation, Shad knew for sure that they weren't some group of bandits. They were a well trained and coordinated bunch. In the middle of them, there was the person that caught Shad's attention because he did not have any crossbow in front of him but there were five people guarding him. His position was at the center of the group and was most definitely their boss or commander.
Shad knew that no matter what he did or who he attacked he would be discovered and the whole group would gang up on him as he was their intended target, not to mention the soldiers that were going up the mountains to attack the enemies were still under heavy fire as the arrows kept raining down upon them like a meteor shower.
If he kept waiting, he would lose a lot of his soldiers and if he attacked he would be discovered by the whole group. Shad quickly made up his mind. As soon as they fired the crossbows before they could even recharge them, Shad channeled the lightning energy within his body at its limit and
jumped from the treetop to the ground.
Like a silent ghost of the night, Shad pounced towards the man at the center who he believed was the leader of them. He was like a tiger that found his prey as he ran towards the man with his eyes shone brightly like a demon.
His speed was so fast that one might think he was floating and his feet did not touch the ground. Like a lion grabbing his prey, his ten fingers were like beast claws as it curled and fiercely sprung forward.
When Shad was approximately fifteen meters away from that man, the air rippled as an arrow flew toward him. The whole group was already on high alert from the moment Shad had jumped from the treetop, but his speed was so fast that they could not clearly see him let alone shot an arrow at him, he was like a ghost in the night.

The arrow was shot by one of the five men that was guarding the leader. Soon, more than twenty arrows followed. In the meantime, the leader was lying flat on the group. The combined arrows created a series of violent whistling sounds in the air.
However, Shad could only try to dodge them. One of the drawbacks of the purple seed in his mana pool was that Shad could not use the mana shield while using the lightning energy in his body. He could only use one at a time, either he used the mana as it is or the lightning energy. He can't use both at the same time, as such, even if he was being shot at, he could not use the mana shield to defend himself unless he stopped using the lightning energy.
With his heaven-defying speed, Shad quickly titled his body to one side as he evaded the first arrow that was going to pierce his heart. by releasing his spiritual force, Shad had already known the directions of each of the arrows as though he had eyes on the back of his head. His speed might not be as fast as the arrows but it wasn't far off, as such he was able to evade all the arrows with some zig-zag movements.
Shad presence had already disrupted the rhythm and the perfect coordination of the group. Right now, they all got up from their hiding spot and trying to kill him which gave the soldiers that were coming on top of the mountain some time to breath as well an opportunity to caught up to them while they were occupied.
While his soldiers were catching up to the group, Shad's eyes were glued to the man. The person seemed to be of great importance to the group. Capturing him was more than enough to completely disrupt this ambush and get good information out of him.
Seeing Shad's white eyes in the night that shone like a light bulb, the person's eyes flashed in panic. He quickly got up from the ground as he screamed and ran to the other directions leaving his subordinated to deal with Shad. He clearly had no intention of being captured. He was the only one them that wore a mask which means his identity was very sensitive.
The five men that were protecting him quickly unsheathed their swords as they slashed them in Shad's direction. Nonetheless, shad did not stop nor tried to evade their combined sword attacks, his body only released a burst of lightning bolts which blasted the five men a few meters away from him as though they were repulsed by a strong repulsive force. They did not have even any time to screams as their bodies were giving out a burnt smell.
Seeing the lightning explosion as he was looking back, the person's eyes flashed a look of disbelief. Nonetheless, he did not stop running. In fact, his speed had doubled. However, how could he outrun Shad while he was using the lightning energy to boost his speed?
The person only felt the back of his neck being grabbed by a strong grip. however, before he could make any movement, he passed out as he was electrocuted and that was the last thing he remembered.

A Goblin's Blade (dropped)
He looked down the path, which was littered with many things. Things he found in abundance were such of violence, desire and gore while things he found in scarcity were such of love, friendship and glory. At the start of the path was a naive, green goblin while at the end of it... Well at the end of it stood him: the godslayer, the monster from the forest, the walking death... He had many names but none so that perfectly captured his image as well as the Mad King. Authors note: Edit: Trying to release a chapter per day, around 2-2.5k words each. An evolution story about a goblin. This is under lit-rpg but I'm focusing more on the plot/characters instead of the usual features of such stories such as the blue tables that take ages to make or the stat screens. In essence it's closer to high fantasy than lit-rpg. Much appreciated if you read the Prologue to see whether you like it or not. Cover image is "Evolution" taken from art done by WhoAmI01

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
