《It Started with Slime》Chapter 17 – Working Harder

Sonic Boom has increased to Level 2!
Sonic Boom has increased to Level 3!
50% Exp Penalty when not attacking an actual Enemy!
It took less than half an hour for Resh to completely deplete all of its MP and had to wait for it to recover since Photosynthesis was still working on HP. Man, Resh was having fun, this was such an exhilarating feeling. Things had started getting a little fuzzy towards the end when its MP hit 1 and its vision blurred a little but the feeling of power when it released Sonic Boom was incredible. It was like power built gradually in its mouth and then was released in one go. Then in the cool down, something was building again in the background just out of sight. Then it could repeat the cycle all over again.
That penalty was annoying though. It would need to find some enemies to practice on to get familiar with. In the meantime it needed to be able to move faster again, flying would be best, it could git the enemy from any angle if it could fly.
You are planning to use Consolidate! This is irreversible and will take 33hrs and 27min at your current Weight of 2006.57g and Volume of 912.08cm3 after the process is concluded you will have a Weight of 160.50g and Volume of 69.78cm3 your new Density will be 2.3g/cm3, while Consolidate is happening you will be unable to perform any further actions, you will not be able to use any passive skills related to movement or growth, only those related directly to your safety, at this time there are Camouflage and Odour Alteration. Do you wish to go ahead with Consolidate? Yes / No?
So it would be able to fly and would still be of a size that it could use its weapons. That was good, and with its current size, it shouldn’t lose any stat points or at least not many. It would also take more than a day to get this done this time. Hopefully, this would also push Consolidate to a higher level and it would get faster. Resh Camouflaged and Odour Altered itself to hide properly at the base of a nearby tree.
Yes!
You have Consolidated to 160.50g and 69.78cm3 your Density has increased to 2.3g/cm3!
Consolidate has increased to Level 9!
Consolidate has increased to Level 10!

Congratulations on reaching Level 10! Consolidate has evolved into Strong Consolidate. Your Consolidating speed has increased from 1g/min to 3g/min. Your Density change will now increase from 0.1g/cm3 to 0.2g/cm3.
Strong Consolidate has increased to Level 11!
Strong Consolidate has increased to Level 12!
You have gained and lost the following stats due to size and weight reduction! +5 Speed, +6 Reaction, +4 Resistance, +3 Intellect, +4 Acuity, +2 Focus!
Strong Odour Alteration has increased to Level 11!
Strong Camouflage has increased to Level 11!
Tongue of the Grounded Squirret has increased to Level 3!
You have just received +1 Luck! Greater chance for good things to happen!
Resh bounced up and down to test its new weight. Fantastic! Its movements were significantly faster and its legs could work again. It would only be Consolidating when it was huge from now on! The best part was that it had not lost any points of Strength or Endurance of Vitality as it had done before. Now that it thought about it. Resh was able to remember a lot more of its experiences and form proper thoughts as well now.
I guess Intellect and Acuity are working better!
It always amazed and surprised Resh when Intellect or Acuity improved as its mental capability both in formulating thoughts as well as its memory and cognitive function improved. It also brought more distractions and a lot more sensations that it could understand and think about. For example, its new tongue was able to literally taste the air and its eyes were able to see but Resh’s brain had been the bottleneck, maybe it still was but Resh certainly had expanded its capability, like its brain was being formed as it increased its stats and abilities. Its other stats had similar effects on its body but none as profound as Intellect and Acuity.
Next, it needed to find an enemy to test its ability on. While it had been out of commission Consolidating its HP and SP had fully restored, its MP still had not yet but was about two-thirds full. It was night time though so it could not use Photosynthesis yet. Resh would do so as soon as it was able.
Resh unfurled its wings and took off, staying low to the ground. Not more than 10m so that it would hopefully be out of range of any larger predators, but also close enough to the ground that it would be able to see. Resh was taking roughly four seconds to cover a meter now, which was great. It enjoyed feeling the wind move past its wings and let off a couple of Sonic Booms to celebrate. They impacted the nearby trees and were absorbed with little of note. But the insects inside did come hurrying out. Resh ignored them for now. It needed something stronger if it was going to become stronger itself. Insects were no longer going to cut it, except when it needed to level up quickly.

With its wings, the way they were at the moment Resh was able to fly up to 33m each hour. Then it had to rest. Otherwise, its wing would collapse under it as they were still weak. Compared to when it started this was a huge improvement but it knew it could do more. Besides, it had lost its Aerial Slime bonus to flight when it had evolved so its wing muscles had lost some of their bonus strength. Within the hour though it found another Grounded Squirret this forest seemed to be sparsely populated apart from insects. Maybe it was just the area that Resh was in. Resh once again thought that it needed a way to understand where it was and how to get around. As well as what areas it needed to and had already explored.
This time Resh did not approach it from the ground, it still had some distance it could fly. So it glided over and then swooped down on the Grounded Squirret and hit it with its new Spell, Sonic Boom…..and missed it completely. On the plus side, Resh didn’t get an experience penalty for that attack but the Grounded Squirret bolted, and even in the air, Resh couldn’t keep up. It would be another slow and annoying process. Resh might have gotten lucky trying to hit it from the ground now that it had a Spell it could use from a distance.
And so, Resh approached the Grounded Squirret on its legs, moving as quickly as it could, it covered a meter in about three seconds. Then Resh snuck up on the Grounded Squirret as it had on the last one, once it was within the range of the spell, only about 10cm, which is why it had to swoop before, it slammed Sonic Boom into it, point-blank. The animal quickly whirled and made to speed off again but this time Resh was ready, it had Slime Club and Crushing Jaws poised and ready to strike this time, slamming that down at the same time as the Sonic Boom. With it still reeling from those three attacks Resh quickly backed off while it recovered and came in for another volley of attacks. It only took a couple of seconds for the Grounded Squirret to recover but that was enough for Resh to quickly come in and attack it again, it couldn’t just keep using Sonic Boom and its range was frankly abysmal but it was still better than having to be right next to the animal, after all a Grounded Squrret’s reach was less than 10cm and once the Spell got stronger it would be great! If the cooldown stayed this long it was not going to be able to use it much in real combat. It was really good as a sneak attack though as it did not alert the target in any way before the strike came at it.
Once the Grounded Squirret was finished and Resh had tried and failed to Assimilate anything from it, the Copycat Slime marvelled at how much better the fight had gone than the last, essentially apart from its first initial attack with Sonic Boom its weapons had not changed and its enemy was identical to the previous one but its change in tactics had helped it significantly, apart from the odd scratch or nick from the enemy’s claws, it was in surprisingly good shape! It did however gain 300g after taking in the Grounded Squirret so it would have to walk for the now flying was not available.
Consume has increased to Level 15!
Gained Odour, Red Meat! Your skill Strong Odour Alteration automatically changes your Odour to any new Odours. Your Odour is now Red Meat!
YOU HAVE REACHED Copycat Slime Level 3! CONGRATULATIONS! +1 Fortitude, +1 Acuity, +1 Endurance
YOU HAVE REACHED Copycat Slime Level 4! CONGRATULATIONS! +1 Intellect, +1 Reaction, +1 Vitality
Resh supposed it could have chosen not to Consume the animal but its instincts were screaming at it and it simply could not ignore those instincts, those instincts had landed Resh into a lot of hot water though. It would need to find a way to fight those urges, for now, it would just keep plodding forward.
