《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 57

Over the last five days, monsters and occasionally creatures from the trench would invade madly or explore her dungeon.

Most of her invaders had been monsters, but the ones who were not out of their mind were creatures of the trench. It was quite surprising to Amy to find out that there were creatures within the trench, but it sort of made sense if the trench had its own little environment. Her encounters with the creatures tended to be peaceful. However, it took more time for her to convert them into her own creatures than it usually does.

On the other hand, the monsters tended to be destructive to the outright madness that she experienced with the mana starved trench leg crab monster.

The fights with the monsters tended to go two ways. The first way would be that the organ within the trench monsters was damaged enough that a trench mana explosion would kill the monster. The second way was that Amy's monsters would be able to kill or wound the monster enough so that it would die.

Overall, Amy was able to strengthen her monster's ability to fight as a group with this type of invaders. It showed as only one of the trench monsters made it to the second floor before being killed by a large group of her honru sharks.

In the end, she did gain more monsters, creatures, and enough mana that she was just on the cusp of gaining a fourth floor.

She pulled up the descriptions of all the monsters and creatures that she had gained from the trench.

Four-Legged Trench Coelacanth

A species of large four finned fish that is only found in trenches.

Slight Mana Starved Conger Eel

A species of trench monster that has a strong bite and is highly aggressive. This specimen has a slight case of mana starvation and it has only light symptoms.

Rank Level: E

Blind Trench Slug

A species of large slug monster that has been corrupted and changed by trench mana. This monster is entirely blind and uses whiskers and its nose to sense its prey. The slug is slow, but it will use its senses to seek out prey to ambush with toxins.

Rank Level: F

Angel Fish

A species of fish that often lives in complete darkness and has a unique version of white bioluminescence, making it look like a celestial being. This species will seek places where mana is significant to feed off.

Spindly Trench Star

A type of trench monster that normally is very still in order to ambush prey. But it will use its arms to swim or crawl to places with more mana to feed off the weaker creatures in the area. Its arms are quite long and have spikes that the monster can use to whip at prey and to attack.

Rank Level: E

Though there were only four types of monsters invading, there was enough of them that Amy had to put most of her mana into recovering, recreating, and fixing up the survivors each time. But she was happy for the mana boost and the new monsters and creatures that she could use.

During the lulls where no monsters from the trench were attacking, Amy collected the strands of trench mana. She did not want them to be roaming free due to the fact that they might go into something and evolve it to the point where it would become a problem.

So Amy had the idea of taking a couple of pieces of sea glass that she had picked up a while ago and placing that calmed strands of trench mana into the glass. She even made a safe space to keep these pieces of glass.

At the very bottom of her third floor, Amy carved out a tiny empty room in the rock bed to safely keep these pieces of dangerous mana strands. She did this to ensure nothing would be infected by the trench mana in case the mana started to become active again.

Along with dealing with the now restricted trench mana, Amy has also been shoring up her third floor in preparation for it to be breached. The main monster of the floor, the lifeblood cuttlefish, was already placed throughout the floor. But she wanted and needed other monsters to represent parts of her main three environments.

As Amy went through the environments, she picked out three creatures and plants that she wanted to shift into monsters. She ended up choosing the travelling vine, the tapapa, and the parasitic cleaner wrasse.

When she singled out these species, Amy started working with them one by one.

She started first with the parasitic cleaner wrasse. The reason why Amy chose this fish was that she wanted it to be the silent predator, the one that people overlook or do not notice until it's too late. So she placed a couple of mana strings into the fish and started working.

Unlike most of the other monsters that she has changed, Amy actually shrank the fish's body. In her mind, this would make the fish less noticeable. She then made the mouth a bit wider and the teeth a lot sharper in order to pierce different thicknesses of flesh. One of the most important parts that she changed was that she increased the toxicity of the topical anesthetic a lot more than it originally had.

As all of the changes were added, Amy started pumping a lot of mana into the creature until she decided that it was enough. Then, once she felt satisfied, she pulled up the description.

Numbing Wrasse

A small parasitic monster with a potent anesthetic that makes its prey unable to notice it.

Rank Level: F

Next, Amy turned her attention to the travelling vine. This vine, in her mind, would be residing in the rainfall forest and the floating mangrove island. She wanted it to be able to blend in with the environment, so she focused on that aspect of hiding and ambushing as she moulded the vine.

With the mana strings, she strengthed the body of the vine and increased its flexibility. However, she did nothing to change its appearance to the travelling vine. Once Amy finished the changes and pumped the vine with enough mana to make the change, she pulled up its description.

Clutch Vine

A type of plant monster that lurks within the canopy waiting for unsuspecting prey. This vine has an incredible grip strength and a strong body.

Rank Level: F

With the two new monsters both having a rank level F rating, Amy wanted to try for one that was more dangerous.

Then she had an idea, what if she used water mana with this process. If she made the changes and then combined a thread of water mana with her own mana when she added enough mana to make the change, then it should lead to a result of some kind.

With the tapapa, she started making the whole bird slightly smaller than it was. She wanted to make the bird more compact so that it would be able to fly very quickly. Along with adjusting the size, Amy also enhanced the beak and its claws to make them able to pierce flesh a lot easier. When she decided that the enhancements were done, she started adding mana to fully complete the change.

Along with her mana, Amy strung a couple of threads of water mana in it. Then, when enough mana was added to complete the change, she pulled up its description.

Water Kestrel

A bird monster that lives around large bodies of water. This bird has a mastery over water and will use it for hunting and fighting. This monster tends to stay close to the water's surface and can mould basic shapes out of the water to help it.

Rank Level: E

She was pleased that this monster had a level E ranking. With monsters of a higher ranking, they had the potential to be more dangerous, which added more protection to her core.

With an additional three new monsters, Amy started summoning and placing them throughout the third floor. The clutch vine was placed on the island and the rainfall forest, and the numbing wrasse was mainly placed within the reefs. While the water kestrel was allowed free reign of the sky of the floor.

As Amy was finishing up with her monsters, she felt another creature entering her territory.

It was another blind trench slug. She watched as it climbed up one of the chains anchoring the iceberg, sticking to the underside of the ice, and climbing all the way up to the underwater entrance tunnel.

Amy watched as it entered through the portal and into her dungeon, where it was besieged by her monsters. Through all of the encounters they had with the same four monster types, her monsters had figured out how to make the fight and the kill a lot easier.

She watched as the archer and augment penguins distracted and fought while the penumbra penguin waited until the right moment before it struck. It had snuck up behind the slug and waited for its chance, then pierced its brain with its beak, killing it.

The mana that she received from the dead monster was just enough to push it to the max level. When the mana flowed into her core, a blue screen popped up.

You have reached the requirement to obtain a fourth floor.
