《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 56

A blue screen popped up when Amy tried to pull up the mana description.

Trench Mana

It is a corrosive and corruptive type of mana that will actively twist living beings into more monstrous and dangerous versions of themselves. This is an active mana type that will actively seek to change its surroundings. This mana type is only found within both active and dead trench's and beings from the trench. The amount of mana that can be found gets more potent the deeper down the trench.

After reading the description, it made sense to her why that crab monster looked so twisted, not natural. But this new mana did not explain why she saw madness in the invader's eyes.

Though it did make her wonder what she could do with her newfound access to trench mana. But Amy still needed to figure out what caused the monster to become mad like she saw and what the crab monster was.

So she turned to the corpse that was still in the same position that it died in and pulled up its description.

Mana Starved Trench Leg Crab

A species of crab with long, powerful legs that has been moulded and corrupted by trench mana. This crab has a small sack where the trench mana is stored like all trench beings. However, due to the reduced levels of mana distribution in its environment, the crab has obtained a "mana starved" status that crazes the being and which forces the being to seek out areas where mana is prevalent.

Rank Level: E

As Amy read through the description, she absorbed the crab monster, so it wasn't just laying dead on the sand.

The crab monster must have crawled up from the trench in search of mana since there would not be a lot of trench mana within the dead trench.

When Amy thought of that, she realized that if a low-ranking monster was mana starved, then there should be other trench monsters who are mana starved as well. It also made it somewhat easy to kill due to it being so set on getting to her core, Amy greatly hoped that whatever comes up from the trench would be just as easy to kill.

Just thinking about the potential of being invaded by these mana starved monsters since she assumed that her mana was a bigger draw than the mana surrounding the amware reef. With this possibility occurring, Amy had to quickly fix up the first floor and bring the population of the plants, monsters, and creatures that were destroyed during the rampage.

As she continued to lament the possibility of being continuously invaded, the icey kelp that the strand of trench mana entered started changing.

Amy watched as the plant started to shake and thrash as if it was having a seizure. As it was shaking, the previous blueish-green hue of the plant began to turn darker. It really wasn't the colour that changed, but the shadows of the plant were a lot darker and seemed at times to overpower the blue-green hue.

As those shadows grew stronger and larger, the plant began to stop shaking. Once the icey kelp completely stopped shaking, those shadows that surrounded the strands of kelp were a lot more bigger and stronger. It was almost like the shadows themselves were their own strands of kelp.

Just as Amy was about to pull up its description, an armoured sea bass just happened to swim right beside the new plant evolved by the trench mana.

As the bass swam by, the shadowy kelp strands struck. The shadow parts of the plant grabbed onto the bass and started crushing it the way an anaconda would. Then, very quickly, the shadow part of the kelp crushed the seabass.

Right after it killed, it pulled the fish's body to the sand, where these much smaller strands of shadow kelp took the body. These strands were different from the shadow strands. As Amy watched what those strands did, she realized that the plant was feeding on the body. Not eating the flesh but drinking its blood.

Seeing this, Amy pulled up its description.

Blood Icey Kelp

An icey kelp that has been corrupted with trench mana and now craves blood. Due to the trench mana, this kelp has grown shadow strands that hide within the regular strands of the plant. These are what the plant uses to attack and feast on the blood of its victims.

It was interesting to see the trench mana's effects on the kelp. Still, it was much more interesting that the kelp could attack and eat this way without it being a monster.

The trench mana changed one of her non-lethal, non-combative creatures into one that consumed blood. It did not shift the plant in the way it did the trench leg crab.

In the trench mana description, it said that it corrupts. So if the still free-floating trench mana strings managed to reach one of her more dangerous creatures and disconnect her connection to it or make it so mad that it would attack anything, then it was a significant danger to her that could happen well down the road. Even the blood icey kelp is still a danger to her if the trench mana continues to corrupt it.

This was a worry that continued to grow in Amy's mind as she thought about it. Everything within her dungeon except for Calder, the invaders and adventurers was either under her control or easily controlled like the ice mana strings. But the trench mana strings were active and may continue to corrupt the blood icey kelp further.

To try to combat this, Amy had an idea. What if she could take a string of her own mana and fill up the trench corrupted kelp? She would not have to worry about the kelp if it worked. If it didn't, then she would have to just wait and see what would happen to the kelp.

Amy took a strand of her mana and placed it within the base of the blood icey kelp. She then started pumping in her mana. As her mana pumped through the plant, she felt it surround the strand of trench mana. It was interesting because as her mana surrounded the trench mana, Amy felt the trench mana start to stop moving.

Before Amy injected her mana into the plant, the trench mana continuously shifted or moved. But after her mana surrounded the strand, it took on a drifting quality that the other types of mana strands.

It was quite interesting that her mana could calm it. But before she could contemplate this quality of her mana, Amy sensed something come out from the trench. It was not a crab monster this time but looked like an eel of some sort.

With some hope that the eel won't be challenging to deal with, Amy sounded the alarms. She had her monsters and dangerous creatures to be prepared to fight as soon as it came through the portal.
