《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 45

Over the next couple of days, when adventurer groups came into her dungeon, Amy set about exploring the amware trench reef much more extensively. She had been so caught up with the influx of adventurers and a lot more cautious in her exploration that she never had her salamanders go that deep into the reef.

She waited until the middle of the night, when all of the adventurers had left, to call back all of the hydrius salamanders that were out exploring and collecting. Then, when they reached her territory and iceberg, they dropped off the things they had collected and quickly swam into the second floor, just in case any adventurers came back into the dungeon.

As those 12 salamanders, the seven salamanders that went off to explore the dungeon and the five salamanders that went to explore the open part of the ocean came back, each was different in some way. Some had significant but healed battle scars, while some had just some tiny, scarred over scratches that looked like they had occurred naturally. Still, some of those salamanders sent something like a signal that pinged at her softly.

It was like something was fundamentally different or added to the core of those salamanders. She opened the status screens for those five hydrius salamanders, and each had something added to their individual status screens.

Her two named salamanders and the other three salamanders had pinged at her when they entered back into her territory and sub-dimension. It turned out that these five hydrius salamanders had gained titles somehow when they were off exploring the surrounding areas. It was interesting to Amy that these five creatures, not her monsters, gained titles. The circumstances around how they achieved their titles also made her wonder if her monsters could gain titles.

But for now, all she wanted to know was what a title is and what the titles mean.

Titles are descriptions given to a creature, non-dungeon monster, or sentient being that describes a trait that a being has gained through actions of one or more types.

After finding out what a title was, even if it was a bit vague, she pulled up those three titles and their descriptions.

Aquanaut

A title gained through underwater exploration of different places. This title allows its bearer to gain an increased 10% chance of finding and exploring incredible underwater places.

Treasure Hunter

By finding rare treasures, this title is awarded to individuals who find and actively seek out treasure. This title gives a 1% chance of finding different types of treasures and a chance to nudge the title bearer slightly when in a kilometre distance of treasure.

Archeologist

A title given to those who love finding, uncovering, exploring, and studying ancient and old pasts of sentient beings. This title gives a 2% chance for the bearer to discover lost pieces of history.

As Amy read through the three titles, the first two somewhat made sense regarding why the salamanders gained these titles, but the archeologist's title confused her.

By the description of what a title is given to her, the three salamanders that gained the aquanaut title were because of their exploration. The treasure hunter title was given to Sky because he was one of the two salamanders that found the will of a crystal. But the archeologist title meant that that specific salamander had come into contact with something and been around it enough to have been given this title by the System.

At the same time that Amy was doing all this with the hydrius salamanders, she was also expanding her outside territory. Her focus in this expansion was to go as wide as she could and as deep as she could reach.

With her attention split and her main focus being the salamanders and titles, Amy did not know how far she was able to push out her territory limits until she could push no more.

As soon as that point was reached, Amy stopped what she was doing with the salamanders and turned her attention briefly to see how far she had increased territory. It ended up that she increased her territory an additional 27 metres wide and 73 metres down. The final size of her territory was 33 metres above the surface, 120 metres in a wide circular fashion, and 118 metres down. She ended up going so far down that her territory reached 18 metres below the sand at the location where she was anchored.

It would be interesting to go through what could possibly be underneath the sand and stones. But that would have to wait until she finished with the hydrius salamanders.

Amy decided that the salamanders with titles that did not have names would be named, and then she would send them off exploring and finding objects with the other seven hydrius salamanders.

She named the three other salamanders and pulled up their status screens to check if it now said their names.

Name: Carter

Species: Hydrius Salamander

Titles: Archeologist

Name: Aero

Species: Hydrius Salamander

Titles: Aquanaut

Name: Ao

Species: Hydrius Salamander

Titles: Aquanaut

When Carter, Aero, and Ao were named, Amy started to send the hydrius salamanders out again, except this time they were going to go in groups.

Azure and Sky were going to go together with a nameless hydrius salamander to search for potential treasure for her. Carter, along with two of the other hydrius salamanders, were set off to find that historical thing that gave Carter their title and to bring something back if they could. Aero, with two others, were set to go off to search for things that catch its attention. The last-named salamander, Ao, along with the last two hydrius, were going to be sent as far into the reef as safely as they could and to try to bring things back with them.

They were also instructed, especially the titled salamanders, to come back to her territory if anything changed, like the weather or increase in danger, like predators or a bad feeling that they shouldn't be there. Amy did not want to lose any of those salamanders.

When she set loose her salamanders to go do what she had asked them to, she started going through all of the things that she now had much more access to with the increase in her territory. The increase in her territory, especially with how far down it went, gave Amy a lot more access to materials, plants, creatures, anything that was down there and was ripe for the picking. It allows her to be a lot more thorough than if she sent her salamanders to bring stuff to her.
