《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 29

When Amy was able to interact with her dimension and territory again, she instantly turned her attention towards the changes that occurred within her dungeon.

What she saw astonished her. Honestly, when Amy chose to have a sub-dimension instead of one room counting as a floor within the iceberg, she did not know what would happen when she gained new floors. Instead, it appeared that when she gained a level, the previous level would stretch out, making a clear area around her core for the next level.

In this case, her dungeon looked like a donut. The outside area of the dimension, following the edge of the dimension, was filled, but closer to the centre, there was just sand and water, and of course, the reef protecting her core.

Like the reef surrounding her core, the island that was already in the sub-dimension when she received it was still in the same spot but grew one metre, making this island 2 metres in length. But, the previous reef that surrounded it and the steep drop on the side closest to her core was gone. Instead, the reef moved with the rest of the first floor, and it seemed that the growth of the dungeon erased what was previously done around the island, but not the actual island, except for its increase in size.

Amy also took a close look at the area where the first floor changed to the second floor because she noticed that none of her creatures or monsters would even attempt to cross over into the second-floor area. She took a good look at the area and noticed that there was a very thin, undetectable shield to anyone else other than her that reached to the very top of her dimension, to the very bottom.

It seemed that this barrier separated floor one from floor two, including separating the flow of species between the two floors. In hopes of better understanding the barrier, Amy reached out and touched the barrier with her mana. As soon as she touched the barrier, a blue screen popped up.

The barrier between floors prevents sentient invaders or adventurers from crossing through the floors without completing the prerequisites.

Prerequisites may include one or both:

Defeating the floor boss Completing a task set by the dungeon core

Please choose a prerequisite.

'Well,' thought Amy, 'that's helpful.' In all honesty, Amy had wondered in the past about the idea of boss monsters, but she did not realize that it would connect in this way to the barrier that appeared. But it was interesting that the barrier would only prevent sentient beings from crossing through all floor areas to reach her core, but not things like monsters. Or at least she assumed this from the wording of the blue screen.

But the blue screen also sent her a task to do that she had not done before, creating either a floor boss or a set of tasks that need to be completed in order to go into the next level.

Amy considered these options for a bit and decided that, at least for floor one, the best option would be a floor boss, and she had just the monster in mind. Just as she chose the floor boss option, another blue screen popped up.

Choose a creature, monster, or plant to become a floor boss.

The monster that she had in mind was the augment penguin that fought the invading honru shark. It defeated an invading monster successfully, so Amy decided to give the penguin a shot. After scanning her first floor quickly, she found the penguin swimming in the northern part of her dimension and quickly inserted a mana string into him. After that, she followed her instincts, and it said to push a lot of her mana into the penguin. And she did that. After a minute of doing this, a blue screen popped up again.

You have made the augment penguin your floor boss of floor one. You can now officially name the floor boss.

Amy stared at the screen and got to thinking. She stared at the penguin and its scars and got an idea. She chose this particular penguin because it defeated the invading shark monster. A shark, which is a type of fish, makes the penguin essentially a fisher. So that made her think that the name Fisher would be a good name for the augment penguin.

You have officially named the floor boss of floor one "Fisher".

With that, the now named penguin monster completed his transformation into a floor boss. It was now a full size larger than any other augment penguins and much more naturally strong without its temporary increase of strength.

With the floor boss taken care of, Amy turned her attention back to the barrier. Unfortunately, the barrier did not allow plants or creatures or monsters to cross over, so she decided to experiment.

She took a piece of giggle coral from one of the reefs on the first floor and pulled it using mana strings into the designated second-floor area. And it worked. With that success, another blue screen popped up.

Giggle Coral is now able to spread to and grow within the second floor.

Dungeon core can designate particular floors in which creatures, plants, and monsters can move or live. It can also prevent something from floor one from passing through the barrier into floor two.

'Huh, so that's how it works,' wondered Amy. But it did allow her to play with the environment that she would want for the second floor. Just as she was about to get to work on shaping the second floor's environment, she noticed that the two salamanders that she sent out before the honru shark attack crossed back into her territory with things that they collected from the amware reef.

The two hydrius salamanders quickly swam to the underwater path entrance to her core room and dropped the things that they collected in their claws and mouths. Amy quickly added them to her territory and pulled up their descriptions.

Heat Brain Coral

A sphere-shaped coral that looks like a brain. This coral uses a unique form of photosynthesis that generates heat within the coral, warming the surrounding area a bit.

Long Spined Sea Urchin

A species of sea urchin with extremely long but hollow spines that produces a gel that, when it touches flesh, has an irritant that lasts for a couple days.

Trench Seagrass

A species of seagrass that has been affected by trench mana.

Red Seaweed

A species of seaweed that grows to create fans of red seaweed that help support coral reefs.

Sand Dollar

A species of burrowing sea urchin found in sandy areas.

After Amy read through the descriptions, she decided to get to work on shaping the second floor.
