《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 15

With the basic setup for the sections with the reefs, Amy started focusing on her kelp forest. As she thought about how she was going to set this section up, a spark of inspiration hit her.

What if she made an ice reef system? Not like an actual reef, but the ice would mimic a reef-like structure, something with holes, tunnels, and clear areas. And she would use the same method that she did to attach icey kelp to ice that Amy had used to attach the kelp onto her iceberg. She decided that she would place this smaller kelp forest ice base in the middle of the western side of the dimension at the very edge of the dimension.

So, she went about building the idea that she had in her head.

Just like in the iceberg she resided in, the mini-icebergs in her dimension had strands of ice mana throughout it. So, Amy grabbed one from them, and pulled it down to the ocean floor and started building. She had to anchor the ice down into the stone portion of her dimension to ensure that it did float up towards the surface. Amy decided to go with how she built her ice cylinders, using ice roots to anchor deep into the stone. She grew a one-metre wide ice root and grew it down 10 metres through the sand until she got to the stone and rock portion of the dimension. Amy pushed down another five metres before she branched off and grew the ice horizontally to fully anchor it down.

With the anchor created, she started growing the ice pile. Amy grew the ice so that there were a ton of holes, covers, indents, nooks, dens, clear areas, as well as shelves. In all, she built a version of piles of rocks that were stacked on top of each other on the ocean floor. And she built it so that it was 20 metres long, following the edge of the dimension wall, and 10 metres towards her core. Amy did not want to grow it too big for now, so she stopped and decided that it was finally time to start adding the icey kelp to the dimension.

As there were two ways that she could add the icey kelp to the ice platform and grow the kelp on the sand, she decided to work on the ice one first as that would probably take more time. So, Amy left the sub-dimension, ignored everything else, and grabbed three icey kelp that was growing on the ice cylinders. She immediately planted one of the kelp into the sand on an empty area where she planned to create a kelp forest. The second kelp, she wrapped the roots around the ice, and the third, she inserted the kelp into the ice itself.

Amy decided to use the same method to split and expand the kelp, just like how she did with the builder coral. She injected ‘grow’ with her mana into both kelps that were attached to ice and watched as the kelp rapidly grew, with many sprout branches. As the plants grew, she cut off the branching sprouts and attached them to the ice in two ways. Soon, the whole ice was covered with icey kelp growing on top of the ice and ones that were growing within the ice. Just like with the coral, Amy wanted to restrict their growth so it would only grow on the ice, and only to the point where the ice could support the kelp and if the plant was damaged.

With the ice platform kelp forest completed, Amy turned her focus to the other kelp forest that she wanted. Unlike with the ice platform kelp forest, this one would span most of the ocean floor. Like how the coral reefs covered about 40% of the ocean floor, the ice platform covers probably 4% of the ocean floor, then Amy wanted the rest of the kelp forest to cover 36% of the ocean floor. The rest of the floor space was going to be empty. This would allow for more movement for any speed creatures that she has or will gain, like the barracuda species.

Amy quickly populated the areas that she wanted to be covered by the kelp forests. Then, with the same techniques she used with the coral and ice platform, she restricted the growth of the kelp outside of certain areas and would only grow very fast to recover from damage.

As she finished up with the rest of the kelp forests, Amy took a step back and looked at what she had built, from the reefs to the kelp forests. And what she saw made her proud. But it was not finished. She still had to build up the ecosystem and add plants, creatures, and monsters when she figured out how to gain or create them.

Since the kelp forests and coral reefs were very different in terms of organisms and such, she wanted to focus on one before starting on the other. Amy decided that it would be best to work on the coral reefs first, as they were the most stationery of the two options. And within the three reefs, she wanted to work on the reef surrounding her core first.

Amy knew that she didn’t have many creatures and plants to work with, but she knew that she would keep on adding to her environments with every new acquisition. So, she turned her attention to all the creatures within her territory that were not living within her sub-dimension. And when she exited the sub-dimension and actually went looking for all the creatures she had, she noticed something. There were things within her territory that she hadn’t remembered acclimating them into her territory.

As Amy pondered how in the heck she did not remember making them a part of her territory, she noticed a couple of beings racing towards her dungeon. But they felt like they were a part of her. Then she realized that they were the penguins that she sent hunting for new things before her attention got sucked into her sub-dimension project.

The penguins also had something in their mouth, and as they swam a couple of metres into her territory, they realized what they caught. And what happened greatly surprised Amy. She did not expect what happened at all. She felt strings of her own mana being separated automatically and head to what the penguins brought into her territory. Amy watched the mana strings attach themselves to the animals that were brought in and inject enough mana to make them part of her territory. Finally, the mana strings released the creatures, and the creatures made themselves home in her territory. Then the penguins started to leave her territory to what she assumed would be to hunt again, but she stopped them and stopped the order that she gave them a while ago.

What she just saw made Amy laugh, and laugh, and laugh. She couldn’t believe that she was doing this automatically. Amy must have done this enough that she could do this automatically without even thinking about it.

But it begged the question, what did she obtain when she was focused on the sub-dimension? Amy couldn’t wait to find out.
