Galileo sipped his coffee, rejoicing over the novel and intriguing taste. He had once tasted a drink made from similiar beans, however, years of the so-called selective breeding and advancements in refinement made the two incomparable. Moreover, there were so many of them to discover, Galileo wasn’t even bothered that the chemicals in the steaming hot mixture did not affect him. Once he was done rejoicing he turned back towards his screen.

About two days had passed since his encounter and recruitment. A few bursts of well-directed mind magic landed him in a decent apartment within this hideout while he waited for a decent fake identity. It really amazed Galileo how difficult it had become to just pretend to be someone else in this new world. Everything from deep background checks, detailed documentation and even this thing called the internet made Galileo’s previous strategy of just transmuting his face to look different ineffective.

Looking at the screen in front of him, a smile crept onto Galileo’s face. He had spent almost the entire time he had been in this hideout on figuring out how these machines called computers worked. So far he only barely managed to figure out how to control them, and he couldn’t even fathom how they worked on the inside. And that made him excited. Moreover, the internet fascinated him even more. So much knowledge, within anyone's reach. Always just a few taps away. He opened one of the news sites he had found yesterday and decided to read through the newest articles. He still lacked the common sense of this reborn world, and although he had absorbed much, he would need to mend the gaps. And reading news seemed like an effective way of also getting some historical background, thus killing two birds with one stone.

Galileo's eyes darted through the front page articles and one of them quickly caught his interest. After all, it was not difficult to recognise the twisting flesh which futilely attempted to reflect his desires. The fact that her charm could be captured by digital media was interesting and requested further investigation, though Galileo already had a good guess. On a whim he decided to click on the article.

Ex-cardinal Anderson spotted with a great beauty on the streets of the Holy City.

The former cardinal stepped down after his wife’s death in a terror attack over a decade ago, claiming he would never remarry. Since then he had been involved in a great variety of charity and missionary work, earning him great acknowledgement both within and without the Church of creation. You might remember our last week's article about his largest charity mission to date where he had personally gone to hand over a dozen cheques to various orphanages around the country, where he also famously donated even his own silver pendant.

To the surprise of many, he was spotted and photoed accompanying a beautiful woman after his return. The identity of this person is unknown for now, despite our best efforts, and so is the origin of the gargantuan jewel she is seen carrying. As most of us would agree she has beauty most celebrities can only envy, yet she is also not wearing the religious pendant in any of the pictures taken. This casts some doubt over the ex-cardinal's vow to never remarry.

They were both observed travelling together through the Holy City around noon, we were able to obtain over a dozen pictures taken during this period of time. Click here to view the gallery.

Galileo was not particularly interested in the pictures, though the idea of a love affair between the immensely proud archangel and the old and weak priest was hilarious, albeit basically impossible. He had to admit that Angelica found her way back to the remnants of her fellow worshippers surprisingly fast. As Galileo mused those thoughts he began to read through the comments.

I will have been a police officer for 40 years next month, and the way the woman is looking around is very similar to some deeply traumatised victims of violent crimes, at least from what I can remember.

Could it be that she had been rescued by father Anderson?

That’s possible, but where did he find her? I mean, he was by himself when he was returning, right?

Whoever wrote this article is absolute scum. You see an honest man like father Anderson helping someone who just happens to be beautiful and you immediately try to start rumours. Absolutely disgusting!

You should also mention that throughout the trip he enjoyed a helicopter with a personal pilot as well as personal transport with a driver on every stop along the way.

All that charity bullshit only lasts until someone tries to touch their luxury.

It would appear that Galileo would not be able to scry any deep insights from this comment section. The rather one-sided bias towards whoever this Anderson is was noticeable but ultimately irrelevant to Galileo. And he would not click the scam link a second time. His interest momentarily waned as his thoughts moved on to something else. He left the computer running as he spun on his chair and picked up a small pile of black something. This thing called gunpowder apparently provided the propulsion of the bullets he had witnessed. Because he used to be familiar with alchemy, Galileo had quickly become infatuated by chemistry. The comparative precision and deeper understanding was something he admired. Rather than just describing what happens when two substances meet, it also investigated why and how reactions happened. With this new outlook on things as well as the newfound power of the internet, it did not take long for Galileo to understand how this gunpowder could propel the bullet.

From his limited understanding he derived, that rather than exploding the substance rapidly combusted, increasing its volume and propelling the projectile out of a confined chamber. The resulting kinetic energy was not much to Galileo, in fact, it did not even quite match up the speed the projectiles managed to maintain the last time he was shot at, but the existence of this technology could perhaps be utilized in other ways.

Just when Galileo was about to return to his binging of the internet, a knock sounded on his door, “Enter,” Galileo exclaimed despite his nudging to just open the door with the wave of his hand. Telekinetic abilities had apparently become very rare and using them would freak people out. The door creaked gently, and a man entered, holding a stockpile of documentation, “Mister Galileo,” he said with respect in his eyes, though most of it probably came from the subtle mental influence Galileo put the hideout’s leader under, “We have found a suitable identity for you. Everything is written down here,” he handed Galileo the documents and waited whether the immortal desired something more.

“Good, you may leave,” Galileo dismissed him, a large smile on his face. He turned off the computer and prepared to leave almost immediately, already anticipating what the nearby future held. Walking among mortals after years of solitude always turned out to be interesting.
