《Dungeon Core Abi》Chapter 80: System Employment
Advertisement
The Dragon of Rebellion is a perpetual teenager. She's moody, argumentative and doesn't want to listen to a single word I say. Fortunately, she can't actually ignore me if I give her a serious command, but anything else I ask her to do she just rolls her eyes at me.
Even when she does listen to me, Becca acts out every chance she can get. Rebecca, Dragon of Rebellion, thorn in my side. Even though I summoned her to look after the other Dragons, she was vehemently against the idea.
There's just something about Dragons that makes them extremely annoying.
I would probably take her seriously if not for the fact that she's a Gods damn Dragon too.
"Becca, get off my futon. I'll make you your own," I beg.
"Don't want to. I like this one," she answers matter of factly, while rolling around in delight, winding me up even more.
This is Sis' fault. I sigh. The sentient dungeon creator said I would be able to solve my mischievous Dragon problem if I unlocked and summoned the third tier in their group. She said they would look after each other. She said it would be fine. So why did it go so wrong? Isn't Sis supposed to know the System better than anyone? I mean, it is her after all.
If she's going to be staying here then she's going to have to start contributing somehow, just like everyone else does. I have the perfect position available, too. It's a relatively new vacancy, but one that I'm sure she will take on and excel in. If not, at least I'll get a slight reprieve and potentially have a good laugh.
"Sis. I have a job for you." I just come straight out with it as I'm so vexed at Becca abusing my futon that I can't even be bothered to sugarcoat.
"Oh. Finally, I was wondering when it would be that you gave me my own space to work in. Do I also get my own tower?" As happy as I am that she actually wants to contribute... a tower? Really? Becca is also throwing a puzzled look Sis' way as her request was strange to say the least.
"Why do you want a tower? Why not a house like the others? They're warmer, for one." Curiosity has caught me by its sharp hooks and I can't help but want to know why. Out of everything she could have asked for, she asked for a tower.
"I am not like the others," she answers simply. Leaving me a little let down and wanting more -until I get my just desserts that is. "I am more like you."
No you're not, you crazy bitch. You're a sly, sneaky, manipulative, sarcastic, job-dodging...
Shit.
"Your job is daycare," I tell her, feeling annoyed that she compared herself to me. I look off at the mountain while her face drops.

Ha. That's what you get. You deserved that one.
"W-What type of daycare?" I can already see a tear in her eye, even though she can't actually cry and I'm not even looking at her. It's just fun to imagine, though. Who knows, she might even use magic to make herself cry when she hears this next part.
"Dragon Daycare!" I exclaim triumphantly. If anyone is to blame for the source of my current headaches, it's this chick. Peaceful Dragons. Question Marks. Sarcastic system notifications!
It's finally payback time.
"You are now and forever in charge of taking care of the current and future generations of Dragons until I decree otherwise."
A new feature has been unlocked:
Dragons' Daycare
"No!" Sis' screams are like music to my ears. I don't even feel guilty about it. I'd like to even say I knew that notification would appear, but I didn't. Still, that won't stop me from acting like it.
"You said to get another Dragon. You said the next evolution would look after the others. You... didn't let The Hay Bale upgrade until, like, forever." I vent.
"What? What's that got to do with anything?" She asks, looking puzzled.
"Everything!" I yell.
I need to calm down. I don't even know where that bout of anger came from. I was just letting out my pent-up frustrations from the past, but I certainly didn't need to release it at Sis the way I did. Well, she did deserve what I said, but there was no reason to have shouted at her.
Damn. I feel bad now.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to shout. It's just... sometimes you can be a little... infuriating?" Apologizing is not where I shine. I should have just stopped after I said sorry.
"So I don't have to look after the Dragons?" Sis attempts to puppy dog her way out of responsibility by looking sadder than anyone has any right to do.
How does she do that?
"Yeah, no. You're still doing that," I smile. I can't help it. It makes me happy.
"But, why? I don't want to look after the Dragons. They're... they're... they're..."
"Don't say it," I warned her.
"Childish! I don't wanna." With a little 'hmph' at the end, Sis flops down onto my futon next to Becca. The System's faults stem from the Lazy God himself being half-assed when he created her making it harder to directly blame her.
I would have done a much better job than he did. He probably applied the least amount of effort he had to hence why Sis is so... buggy.
Doesn't she realise how childish she's being right now? Yeah, yeah. I'm no better, but at least I'm trying.
With a snap of my fingers my new feature is built. Surprisingly, it's the first feature to be placed on the actual mountain itself. I didn't actually know it was going to end up there as I was trying to place it inside the city seeing as how that's where the Dragons play their shenanigans. Still, I'm not going to complain. I am trying to make a point as it is.

"Becca, come on. We're going," I tell the Rebellion Dragon still lounging around on my futon.
"No. I don't want to. I'll stay here," she answers without even looking at me. This only annoys me more and I turn my attention back to Sis.
"If you do a good job, we'll talk about that tower you want. I'll even throw in some cuddlies as a bonus." At the mention of a tower, Sis perks up immediately and begins nodding profusely.
"I'll do it. I'll take care of the Dragons. Also, I want my tower to be bigger than yours," she declares as though we're bargaining. Seriously, how does Sis not realise that she's just as childish as the Dragons?
"No." I shoot her down without thinking it over. Okay, that might have been a little bit childish on my part, but who's the Master here? I should have the tallest tower, right?
"Aww," Sis pouts, but doesn't complain any further. Finally, problem solved, job delegated.
Before she has a chance to think up an escape clause, the six of us teleport to the Dragon Daycare to see what's up because, of course, Amber, Violet and Blondie are still with me and there was no way I was leaving Becca alone with my cuddlies. For some reason, the triplets stick closer to me than Sis does and I think it's going to be harder to convince them to stay here than it was Sis.
The Dragon Daycare created a place for itself among the pink-leafed trees not too far up the mountain. It would still take a few hours to reach in foot for a regular Tironian, but it's not like anyone travels up there anyway. Although, you never know. This could be the start of a new venture. Mountain hikes to see the peaceful Dragons of Varona. You just have to kill your way through the goblin-infested forests.
The large, rectangular building, reminiscent of an orphanage, is pure white and looks just as beautiful as everything in the city below. It wants to look good too as there's no upgrade option for this feature for some reason. If I had to take a guess at that, I'd probably think it was something to do with Sis but it's not important for the moment.
As we enter the building, some of us more happy than others, we see that the inside is fully stocked with anything a young Tironian might need to enjoy their childhood. Games, books, paper, toys and various other clutter that a child would need to have fun litter most rooms downstairs, which is quite a lot, as the building is on the larger side than normal. There's also a kitchen, an office and a few toilets that finish the bottom floor whereas upstairs is mainly bedrooms and a few storage closets.
What more could Dragon lolies want? I can also get Ali to staff the kitchen with some of her workers and have Assassins watching the perimeter to turn around any mischievous Dragons that might try to sneak off to town unaccompanied.
Perfect.
Unless they fly to town. I'll put a rule in place which says they can't do that. I know they won't frighten my citizens, but a dragon flying straight into town before turning into a loli with horns might be too much for them.
"Well. What do we think?" I beam at everybody in the main room downstairs. Sis doesn't look too pleased and Becca hasn't smiled since she was summoned. She also doesn't say anything and instead looks for the most annoying thing she can find.
"It's ok, I guess."
"You did perfect, Abi."
"Master, I think it is dinner time."
My own personal lolis don't offer anything more than I would expect them to. Especially Amber. It's like all she ever thinks about is food. Violet is very blasé and doesn't title me whereas Blondie is upbeat and supportive and she always calls me by name. I need that support. Blondie is the dragon-equivalent of Anya. She's so nice. Even with their little quirks, I'm growing fond of these three little cuties.
Summoning some Assassins, I place them under Sis' command. I'm not stupid enough to think that she can handle this task on her own. Hell, with how these Dragons act she might end up needing even more staff.
With the Dragon problem solved - or palmed off in this case, I feel quite proud of myself. All I had to do was place Sis in charge and she basically took care of the rest herself. Even though she didn't want to. It was great. She gave me the notification for the Dragons Daycare and then she magically created the feature on my mountain to no satisfaction of her own.
Huh? Maybe she is kinda like me?
Becca has managed to find what she was looking for and is smashing the drums in the corner to an unholy tune that no musician in the world would approve of. I take that as my cue to disappear before Sis can say anything to stop me. Just as I left, I caught sight of her sighing and slumping her shoulders. If she wants her tower she's going to have to work hard.
Poor Sis.
What I didn't see were the three Dragon triplets still holding onto my dress and teleporting with me.

Mycology
Declan was but a teenager when he was invited to Gaia. It wasn't some popular VRMMO like the ones his friend keeps recommending, nor was it a 'game' in the traditional sense. Gaia was the stopgap to Indiri, a living breathing world, the final creation of a dead genius. Invited to this world by Eve, the overseer and an AI light-years greater than any that came before her, Declan was given a choice. To join or not to join? Well, why the hell not? Hello, this is a pretty basic VR story which I started writing out of boredom, don't expect anything too great here, it's a somewhat unique setting but with mostly slice of life comedy shenanigans with no real 'plot' since I can't reliably include stakes in a world where respawning is a thing. I'll try to upload at least once every other week but real life stuff may get in the way occasionally. **WARNING** Protagonist comes with an inbuilt wizard hat. Also, any mentions of chapter titles shall be met with falling rocks TPK. **ACTUAL WARNING** Story may or may not read like the fever dream of an eclectic sasquatch with internet connection. Do be warned, that this story has extremely slow pacing by design. Join the Discord!! https://discord.gg/p2gxqs4 Laugh at my empty Patreon!!
